The first work I read from this author (apart from some poems in a Dutch newspaper or book review). Interestingly, this bundle of poems makes me curious about her novels, her proza.
Beautiful sentences and word findings and connections in the middle of a long phrase I lost track of. The way the lines of the sentences are cut seems random. I found myself reading the words as a very long sentence in which too much information was put. On the other hand, those phrases also gave a sense of a train of thought. The whole book read like a collection of youthful memories. Family, grief, nature, play, love, fantasies...
The metaphors are down to earth and can be recognisable for young readers (like Rijneveld's age) who grew up in the Netherlands, especially in villages or small cities.
These poems were not my cup of tea. Maybe I should have read it while listening to the author, but when I read these, I may have expected connections where there were none. And the other way around. If that makes sense.
2.5 stars due to my personal reading experience.
