All Jason wanted to do was live in peace with his new family. Unfortunately events wouldn’t allow him that luxury. After the EMP attack Jason had gone off to the mountains, discovered a woman and her two daughters who needed help, and got himself adopted into the family. They had fought off marauding gangs to secure their safety, but a new threat now loomed on the horizon. Hillsboro, the nearest city, is run by a tough criminal who has the town under his brutal control. He can’t allow Jason to be a rallying figure for those who oppose his rule. Jason and the farmers who stand with him represent an attractive, freer alternative to his dictatorial control. In this sequel to the #1 Best Seller, “After the Fall: Jason’s Tale”, the story continues with Jason and his family reluctantly drawn into the struggle to free Hillsboro from the clutches of the gangster. Will he find the help he needs to combat a larger, more organized enemy? If you enjoyed “Jason’s Tale”, you’ll want to read this rich narrative of the continuing efforts to restructure society after an EMP attack cripples the U.S.
A great story, even ignoring the EMP. The EMP serves as a vehicle to stir up the drama, but the character depth is the true value here. Action packed scenes are believable and accurate.
As I started to read this, it seemed very, very familiar. I realized that it was the same book as After the Fall: Catherine's Tale Part 2. I actually went on Amazon to get that book in Kindle just to check but it is no longer available in that format. I finished this quickly since I knew what was going to happen. I had given the Catherine's book 2 a 4 star so did this as well though I must admit feeling a bit punked at reading the same book under a different title.
Another great book from this author read six of his self are all excellent
This is a new series that he is introduced a little bit different from his first series which Focus pretty much on one individual this focus is on an event that takes place in the country where all powers wiped out and people have to fend for themselves in a rural environment of survival of the fittest the book is well-written although the idea is far-fetched the way he presents it is totally believable and away and it's usually his characters or a complex but yet not phony or shallow sorry I urge others to look into this author he's very good
Real let down from from the themes of the first book. Not much about the valley and their survival. This book was more about urban life with a corrupted leaders. Too many times the guns were gone over and the type of ammo they could use for them. One time would have been sufficient to do that instead of every time either side amassed more weapons. Only a few characters had their development further. I plan on reading the third book to see if the author returns to his previous style on the first book.
I'm very happy the author kept this book clean without and sexual scenes like what happened in the first book. This is a continuation of the first book but, there are good references to the first book and backstory explanations so if you were to start with this book you wouldn't be completely lost and out of the loop. The characters are believable and the action is very good.
Second book in the After the Falls series. After an EMP attack the town of Hillsboro is being run by criminals. Jason and the farmers learn that the criminals who have taken over the town plan to attack the valley. They do not want the town people to think they can be free like the farmers. Also, they want the seeds that will continue to produce crops. The farmers have no choice but to take the fight to town after they are attacked. Very good story, great characters.
This one was a rollercoaster of events and emotions. Characters like Bird and Lori Sue are the kind of people I like to read about and remember. Billy is another. Even with the peeping Tom incident from before, I felt like there was something more withIn him. Book 3 will luckily give us more.
I have enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story. The author does a good job in creating characters that are easy to identify with. The story line kept me engaged all the way through. I highly recommend and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Read both books in a week and loved them .Great characters,a lot of heart ,action, and course rotten apples to make a great read.looking forward to the next one.don't pass this series up great read.
Good stories. Not overly complex and free of editing errors. Enjoyable with strong female characters. I look forward to the next one in the series. Not a lot of political drama.
Families are built, homes are fought for. Towns are rescued and lives are changed. Life and death have torn through these great characters. You will cheer, cry, and feel their pain while reading this and the first book After the Fall.
Read both books in the series and anxiously awaiting the next installment. Great characters that exemplify the American spirit. Just wishing that the author could export that sense into the political system that run out country today.
A local community has accepted a dictatorship after the local criminal boss grabs all the resources following the apocalypse. Then they try to take control of the rural folks wanting and able to survive on their own.
Refreshing story about a very small, young family's effort to survive using only their own oreplanning and resourcefulness. Touching, heartfelt interactions between family members...even a little sister on the way!
Lori Sue!!! Billy and so many like him, ignorant, unloved, alone , find nothing ever goes right for them. It makes my heart ache for all they miss in life. But then to have them find a Lori Sue well damn!
Second book in the series has the story culminate with the battle for Hillsboro. Jason and the valley are attacked and subsequently turn on the town malitia in order to protect their future. This is an excellent book.
I did not enjoy this 2nd book as much as i did the 1st, but it kept my attention well enough. Hopefully, the 3rd book will be more reminiscent of the writing style of the 1st.
I see why these books were initially titled add Catherine's books. Good reading, looking forward to more plots in future books. Lots of loss, see the growth and fight for more than just survival, inspiring.
Excellent follow-up to the first of the series. Particularly enjoyed the fight sequels and the analysis of what is going on as the battles progress. I have no doubt I will enjoy further presentations.
I like stories with lots of action and Suspence. This author give me both and is very good at keeping the reader's interest. It is hard to put down after you get into it.
I really enjoyed the interaction of the valley people and mtn. Clansmen. They all tried to help each other. The women also played a big part which is always a plus. Hard work and family paid off. Good reading, always make you think....WHAT IF.
I loved the story and the characters. It is well written and I could not put it down. It's the second in the series and continues Jason's and Anne's story. If you like survivalist books Mr Nees is right up there at the top of the list.
David Nees weaves a great story with likeable good folks and some rather nasty bad guys. Martial Law is a pressing issue for us all, as the USA is now fast approaching anarchy. Take heed, Nees has seen the future.
Having read the first two books I can honestly say that I hope the author writes many more books and continues the story. A really enjoyable and even uplifting look at the apocalypse that is all too threatening.
