Animal hunters are presented like fat idiots. I loved this. Elephants balancing on thin sticks are also a very funny and cute image. Great illustrations. Overall very enjoyable book.
Elmer is highly creative and in this one comes up with an ingenious idea of how to avoid the hunters. Of course, things don't go as planned and much chaos ensues, but the hunters are convinced to leave the elephants alone and now the elephants have a new way to party. I would have given it five stars, but this one lacks some of the depth of the other books in the series.
Elmer, the multi-coloured elephant and his friends are alarmed to hear that poachers are on the way to take their tusks. To outwit them Elmer gets inspiration from a long-legged giraffe to build stilts to evade them. When the hunters accidentally run into the elephants’ stilts Elmer and his friends fall on the hunters and teach them a lesson about poaching. After the poachers crawl away Elmer suggests staying up on the stilts to have some fun on them.
I have the series of Elmer books and all seems to have a serious undertone to them. In this case, the issue of illegal hunting could be explored with a child, although I think this just serves to let children know it is wrong. The illustrations are brilliant too.
Honestly, I loved *Elmer on Stilts*! It’s such a charming little story that’s perfect for kids (and adults too). Elmer’s always been a favourite of mine, and seeing him trying out stilts is just adorable. The illustrations are as bright and lively as ever, really bringing the fun to life. What I really appreciate is how the story has a lovely message about trying new things and having confidence—plus, it’s just a joyful read. Definitely a five-star read in my books. Would recommend for anyone who wants a cheerful, uplifting story!
I felt that this was a very clever book as it tackled the serious issue of hunting whilst injecting the situation with humour. The clever elephants with their monster foot-printing stilts vs. the cowardly elephants hunters!
K-1st Fiction Cute illustrations follow the elephant Elmer as he tries to protect the other elephants from hunters. Silly and fun, children will be engaged by Elmer's colors and his ideas of problem-solving.
In this book, Elmer, the elephant saves his friends from hunters. Elmer discovered that if they use stilts, they are too high for the hunters to see them. A very satisfying ending.
Not my favorite of the Elmer stories. Elmer helps his friends hide from the elephant hunters by walking on stilts. Younger readers will appreciate the humor.
