Dive into this heart-stopping chase in the tenth riveting installment of the Northwest Cozy Mystery Series, meticulously crafted by a two-time USA Today Bestselling Author.
This is the 10 in the series but the first book I have read/listened to. The characters were interesting if not always likable. I enjoyed the mystery but found it a little hard to follow at times. I did learn a bit more about how the mob works in Chicago.
This is the tenth in the series but the first I have read/listened to. It is a stand alone story. The story begins with Al De Duco’s funeral service. He died in a boating accident. The mob wanted him out of the way. Who specifically was upset with Al’s new life? There are a lot of twists, turns and, suspects.
What I didn’t like was that most of the women were portrayed as unable to do much other than follow their husbands wishes, shop, and hide out. Even the women connected to the mob seemed cowed. Cassie seemed a little naïve to believe Al’s previous life would never present itself into his current life.
I did like the reveal and it was surprising.
Recipes at the end of the book. I don’t understand why. The recipes have nothing to do with the story but they are nice addition.
Al is by far my favorite character in all of Dianne Harman's books--and I actually got really upset when I started reading and it was Al's funeral! That funeral scene was really well written and had me going for the tissue box! How happy I was that there was an amazing twist!
However, there is a hit out on Al and he has to figure out who it is. He uses some of his old friends and with the help of his wife and her friends--off they go to Chicago. There really are a lot of twists and turns in this one and a lot of suspects!
Will Al manage to find the guy after him so that he can go about his new life Mafia free?
Al De Duco died in a boating accident and Cassie is planning his funeral? Thankfully it's just a ruse so Al can discover which goon from the mob has a problem with his new life and wants him dead. There are some scary Chicago suspects to choose from: Sabazio Vinaccia--Surly Sab, Betty Traxel--The Cook, Rocco Rosetti--The Rock, and Donald Richards--Porky. With the help of some old friends, Cassie, DeeDee, and Jake, Al hopes to live to see another day! For an ex-mobster, Al has become a likable guy and a major character in Dianne Harman's Northwest Cozy Mystery Series. I enjoyed Murder in Chicago and found this installment of the series to be the scariest one to date!
I have read all of the Northwest Cozy Mystery novels and have loved them all! I enjoy all the characters. Thus far, this book is my least favorite. Al, his wife Cassie and their good friends Jake and DeeDee travel to Chicago so that Al can determine who is trying to kill him. Many of Al’s cohorts from his mob days are introduced in this story. I don’t know why but I just couldn’t get into this plot. Near the end gets exciting; the would be killer is found and turned over to the police and Al is accidentally shot. I will definitely read the next book in the series. I can only hope it will be better.
DeeDee and Jake have themselves involved in another murder investigation. This one is involving their friends Al and Cassie. It seems like Al’s not so innocent past is catching up to him. There are lots of shady and suspicious characters. But there’s lots of fun and humor throughout as well. And there’s always a dog or two in this book as well as the others. The author Dianne Harman always includes yummy recipes at the end of her books
I know these are small and you can read them in a few hours but they still grab you throughout the story keeping you reading. This author writes several series and they are equally good. The characters are lovable, you'll root for them throughout the story and the story will keep you reading. Great Reading Everyone!
This was a short, light read. Perfect for reading in the summer. I've read all the books in this series and will probably read more if there are any. I like the characters but could live without the written mafia accent for one of the characters.Other than that the characters are fun and likable.
Not as good as previous reading in this series. Some stuff didn't really make sense and not really tuned to the why. I did get a kick out of the mention of Giordanos Pizza in Chicago as we were referred there by our neighbors when our train trip had a lay over in Chicago.
AL left the mob so how did he end up on a hit list?
AL needs to know why someone wants him dead. Is going back to Chicago to find out who a good idea or should he be heading to a remote village and hide out?
Really poor plot. And Dianne women can do more than shop and take long baths and do their hair. Really disappointed because the earlier books in series were good. This one is just lame on so many levels
A story about Al, a former mob guy who left the mob to have a normal life and now there is a hit out on him, he can’t understand who would be doing this and he wants to find out.
See Dee,Jake,Cassie and So are at it again solving a mystery full of suspense with many twists and turns. I enjoyed the story and the zany characters. This book is recommended for those who love cozy mysteries.
This book had action throughout Chicago in it. A fast read because you get to wondering who is trying to kill Al. Having great friends ultimately saves his life, I'm sure to go into another calamity in life.
This is the 10th in the series. The main characters are DeeDee, Jake, Cassie and Al. Someone is out to kill Al and he fakes his own dead to confuse the killer. They are get together and head to Chicago to try and find the person who wants him dead. Can they figure this out in time?
This was a great look inside Al’s pass. I loved it. I don’t like Benny. He just rubs me the wrong way. I don’t know why but he does. Maybe because in my I have this character of him. I don’t know. The recipes are great as always.
DeeDee and Jake's friend Al has had to fake his funeral because he knows there is a "hit" out on him. They all go to Chicago to try and find out who and why because Al has been out of the mafia for years. Even the gals get in on the sleuthing trying to get information from Mafia wives.
I loved this book. I was on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter. I love All and Cassie trying to be so strong for each other. Deeded and Jake are the perfect friends. I highly recommend reading MURDER IN CHICAGO.
This was a very interesting read with several high living scenes. With the threat of death Al goes to Chicago with friends to find who is after him. They decide to be glitzy and live large to keep people looking at them as they search.
Another installment of the Northwest Cozy Mystery series finds Al taking his wife and friends back to Chicago where his past has caught up with him. Previously in the Mafia, someone is out to kill him And he and his friends scurry to find out who.
I wonder if they know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried??? All that Al wanted was to get out of the mob. But somebody didn’t want him to get out alive. I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
Real easy read about a mafia hamster who wants to leave the life. It backfired and Al with his skills finds out go has a contract out on him. Good story
If only Shirley hadn’t lied, there wouldn’t be a problem. But Al has a big problem and he doesn’t know why. Ms Harman writes a compelling book that’s hard to put down. I love this series!!!
Was disappointed...the only thing recognizable about the venue was the name...Chicago. If author had done some research, maybe it would have seemed more authentic. Also was unable to connect with the characters who really didn’t seem real. Sorry
Since I am originally from the Chicago area, I found this book to be exciting. I absolutely love all the books that Dianne Harman has written so far. I can't wait to read the next one.
