Sleeping Bunnies

This award winning series has been specifically designed for babies. A great introduction to books through well-known nursery rhymes and interactive text. Singing songs and rhymes is the perfect way to bond with your baby and share quality time. It also aids language development by introducing them to the natural sounds and patterns of speech. Combining these with actions also stimulates the brain and helps muscle development.

Five little bunnies--actually children in bunny suits--are curled up taking a nap. But one or two aren't as sound asleep as the other ones. As most parents know, if one child is up, then no one else is going to be able to sleep. The three bunnies that are wide awake decide to use music to awaken the others, and then they hop around the house. All of the children are adorable, and happy to bounce around. There's not a doubt in my mind that young readers are listeners will mimic the children in this board book, and do some hopping of their own. Honestly, there might be nothing more fun when you are little than running, hopping, skipping, and running.

I really like that some of the “bunnies” (kids in bunny pajamas) in the illustration have visible disability aids- there’s a child with a hearing aid on one page, and another with a walker on several pages. It’s so rare to see disability representation in children’s books that aren’t about disability, so this is great. The characters are racially diverse too, in a way that doesn’t center white characters, and I appreciate that the child pretending to be a doctor is a girl. My bunny-obsessed 2 year old loves nursery rhymes and singing. She requests this several times a day.

I love the diversity depicted in these little books, as well as the music on the back covers. Do I sing this one as written to my toddler? No. Do I sing it the way Ms. Rachel sings it? Of course.
