The Right Guy

Rate this book
Let me get one thing I only went to visit a psychic to keep my soon-to-be-married friend, Ashley, quiet.

But when the psychic knows things about me, things she ought not know, I admit, I start to believe. She tells me I’ll lock eyes with the one within the next two weeks, and the part of me that wants to be loved, that wants to belong, pricks up its ears.

Dazed, I step out of the tent and look up into a pair of soft, ocean green eyes, set in a handsome, tan face.

So far so perfect.

Only problem is, the eyes belong to Jake Harrison, my best friend's big brother.

No way. Not him.

Sure, Jake is fun, easy to be with, and sexy. Oh, my is he sexy. But I’m not falling for him. He’s a total ladies' man. The last thing I want is to be another notch on his bedpost when he inevitably moves onto the next girl.

Only now we’ve been thrown together on a joint bachelor-bachelorette weekend in Cabo San Lucas and there’s no avoiding the guy.

He’s at the beach, at the bar, in my head.

But I’ve got to protect myself. Being with Jake might be everything I’ve ever imagined, or it could bring my world crashing down around my ears.

No. My mind’s made up. Jake Harrison is not the one.

Only someone needs to tell my heart that.

The Right Guy is a sweet and sexy, friends-to-lovers contemporary romance. This book is a standalone, full-length novel.

What a wonderfully, emotional, cute story about two people so right for each other, but they can't see it. Especially when a psychic sends Taylor looking in all the wrong places. I loved Jake from the minute he appeared on the page and was cheering all book long for them to get their HEA together.

I read an advance copy for a cover quote.

From beginning to end, this is a cute, funny, and engaging tale. Bronwen Evans, USA Today Best Selling Author.

description

This is the first Kate O’Keeffe book that I could not finish. I am sad to say if it was the story or just my reading mojo at the moment I am unsure which. I found Taylor to be a bit of a wishy-washy character how did grate on my nerves at times with her “should I or shouldn’t I” questions and her unacceptable behaviour which was the end of my reading. The book was told in a dual POV which is different from the other books I have read by this author but very common to what I read most of the time. This book was a bit spicier than the others and it felt a little bit of a different style. This is not bad just different what I have become to know from this author.

It was a funny rom-com book at times and Jake was a very likeable character to read about. I did receive an arc of this book and all comments are my voluntary and honest options. I would still recommend this book as I really do enjoy this author sometimes some books just do not side well with you at a particular time.

I really enjoyed this book. I love Kate O’Keeffe, and while different from her other books, it was a nice departure that I thought she did very well. Told from alternating points of view, it’s the story of Jake and Taylor. Taylor is best friends with Jake’s sister and has practically been a part of the family forever. Of course, there are going to be doubts as Jake and Taylor face their actual feelings for each other. Add in an ill-timed psychic prediction that causes more doubts, and a few odd encounters and it makes for a fun, light read. I didn’t think that Jake’s “playboy” past was fleshed out enough to truly believe it, which in turn made Taylor’s wavering back and forth seem a little bit much. But it wasn’t enough to stop me from enjoying the story. The electricity between the two was expressive and real. A four-star read from me because it let me escape and enjoy their story. I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved this book! I'm a huge fan of Kate O'Keeffe's books and enjoyed the departure from her other books in this new one. Told from the point of view of both Taylor and Jake, which I really like in a romance. I prefer knowing what's going on with the male character as well not just the female character. Jake is Taylor's best friend's older brother and Taylor has always been considered part of the family. I love friends to lovers stories. Especially when theirs a bit of denial going on! Add in a psychic making predictions to Taylor about when she'll meet the one and who the one is. It makes it a little more interesting. I loved the HEA and I highly suggest this book to anyone looking for a feel-good story!

I love Kate O'Keefe's writing and this book doesn't disappoint. The characters are well developed and could be people I know. The story is written from two points of view---his and hers. Besides being fun and an enjoyable read, it is interesting to see the differing views of some of the same events. I love the idea of seeing how Jake views things since most books are from the woman's point of view. Although the plot is a bit predictable, I still found myself cheering for the happy ending. The Right Guy is a quick read that left me wanting missing these characters when it was over. Highly recommend this fun read.

I received this book as an ARC. I am a big fan of Kate O’Keefe and have enjoyed all of her other books. “The Right Guy” definitely took me a little longer to get into than the others. In fact, I must have re-started the beginning at least three different times before I continued the book. I am not a fan of psychics, so I think that was why I struggled so much in the beginning. Once I got through the first part, I enjoyed it more. I love books that show both of the main characters’ points of view. It such a fun literary treat! I did find myself becoming discouraged with Taylor. For a woman that isn’t supposed to believe in psychics, it was frustrating to see her continually rely on what the psychic told her, as if she was unable to make this decision on her own like a grown, independent woman. That being said, overall, I really did enjoy “The Right Guy” and recommend it to others! Jake was a great character! I would love for a sequel with these two characters!

Nothing like missing what is right in front of you. Especially if you're in denial! I thought this was a cute story that was very believable in the sense that once Taylor knew what "the one" was going to be wearing, she was seeing orange shirts (and maybe-green eyes) everywhere. The dynamic of the characters was very typical of the close-knit groups that end up in wedding parties with each other. All in all a great read, especially if you want to have visions of a vacation in Cabo in your head.

The Right Guy is another fun book from Kate O'Keeffe. Her characters are always so vividly portrayed. I loved Taylor's searching for blood orange shirts! This is the best friend's brother trope, but Taylor and Jake have been denying their feelings since she was 16! The psychic was a nice touch. If you are looking for a light, fun escape read, this book should be a delight!

Absolutely delightful!
This is my first experience with an O’Keeffe book, and I’ve signed up for her newsletter! I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve recently read several books by authors from New Zealand, and I can’t get enough of them. Their outlook on life is very refreshing and addictive. Definitely a “must read” for story and characters!

This was a fun, pretty much drama-free, and quick read. :) It was a bit sexier than some of her other books I've read, but it still had the same feel-good, chick-lit-y vibes I like about Kate O'Keeffe's stories.
Taylor and Jake make a cute couple, and the supporting cast of friends and family are another reminder of why I like Kate's books so much. :)

I wonder if this is going to be another series with the fortune teller as a common link?

The Right Guy-

Kate O’Keeffe’s The Right Guy is a cute story with a fun premise and likable characters. Her voice and internal monologues are awesome. I would have loved to see more actual dialogue and interaction between Taylor and Jake on the page and I craved to see scenes that didn’t make the book but were mentioned. Still, O’Keeffe pulled it all together in the end and The Right Guy is an enjoyable read. 3.5-4 stars

What would you do if a fortune teller told you that you were going to meet the right guy now and gave you a description of what he was wearing and his eye color? I might just spend time looking for the right combination. That's just what Taylor did. A very enjoyable book that went by quickly. Well written and not rushed at all.

I love Kate O’Keefe’s writing and this book was great, the story from both perspectives was a nice point of difference. The story of Jake and Taylor was so cute and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

A new Kate O'Keeffe rom-com and she doesn't disappoint! One of my favourite aspects of her Cozy Cottage series was the friendships and she's done it again for the Right Guy. I loved Taylor's group of friends as well as her friendship with Jake before things heat up. A little spicy, a little sweet and a lot of fun!!

Pack your bags and head to Cabo with friends (who want to be much, much more than friends) Taylor and Jake for a long weekend. Come to think of it, if you’re headed for the beach for a few days IRL, pack a copy of “The Right Guy.” It’s the perfect beach read. With a light dose of steam and and a more generous dollop of fun, relatable characters, this book is about learning to trust and following your heart. Another winner from author Kate O’Keeffe!

I've always been a big O'Keeffe fan, and I'm a total sucker for the best friend's brother trope, so The Right Guy was right up my alley. Taylor's a skeptic who gets talked into going to see a psychic. She doesn't expect anything, but when she's told that she's going to meet a guy with ocean-green eyes wearing a blood-orange shirt outside the tent, that's pretty specific. It's fun to follow Taylor as she walks up to every man in an orange shirt in San Francisco during baseball season. Jake is a totally dreamy hero, and I dare you not to swoon when.....

Such a great read!

This book frustrated me a bit. The writing was good, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 3 but I was on the fence about it because I really just wanted to smack Taylor for the last half of the book.

This is a light hearted, fun story. It has its funny moments, and the writing flows well and is easy to read.

Taylor...I liked her in the beginning. She is struggling to find love and approaches things cautiously and rationally at first. Great, no problem there.

But toward the end, some of her behavior with Jake astounds me...to leave him hanging the way she does so she can investigate other options is unacceptable behavior. To trust the vision of a psychic over the words of the man in front of her professing his feelings did not not sit well with me.

Overall, it's an okay read with a HEA. Jake is wonderful and things are generally fun. But a few of Taylor's actions just really put me off on this one.

I enjoyed reading this book. Taylor is looking for "the one" and her best friends brother, Jake, has always been a player. Little does Taylor know that Jake has been in love with her for years but she is too afraid of getting hurt again. At times, Taylor's reluctance to trust in Jake made me think they were never going to get their HEA. This is a new to me author but I look forward to reading more.

I really enjoyed reading The Right Guy. It's a light, cute, romantic friends to lovers story that makes for a quick enjoyable read. As the author mentions, this story is a bit "sexier" than other of her books but it's still sweet and I especially liked that we get both the main female and male characters' point of view.

The right guy is a story with a fun premise and beyond likable characters. A physic predicting she'll find the love of her life makes Jake realize that he could lose her if they don't act out on their feelings.

The Right Guy

I loved Jake, but Taylor kept making me mad, at how crappy she treated him at times. I loved how this book started and ended. It was a sweet and steamy read for the most part. Had a few good laughs as well. It was mostly a fun read. It would have been a 5 star, if a few things had happened in a little different order.

Light and Fun

Super enjoyable story of Taylor and Jake. I love the "big brother" trope. I guess I really just love any story where the characters have history, and really know one another well. When the relationships are based on feeling born of time ad familiarity, rather than just physical attraction...

Ok, I got a bit sidetracked. The story was fun and very funny at parts. It was really enjoyable to see Taylor and Jake work things out.

This was a cute read. Taylor did drive me bananas here and there but I’m glad she wished up in the end. Jake was perfect for her.

I really enjoy Kate O'Keeffe's books, if I ever need the perfect romcom escape, her books are it!
They are always light-hearted, funny, and have a slew of interesting characters. This one was no exception.
Taylor and Jake had the chemistry from the start, and the entire time you'll say to herself 'they've had to have been in love since childhood!'. The writing was superb, witty, and I laughed to myself plenty of times. I found Taylor's back and forth nature all to realistic for me, haha, but that's what made her character so damn great. I highly recommend this book. Its a fast, fun read.

This is a perfect little beach read

Had me drawn in from the get go when Taylor visits a gypsy fortune teller unbelieving and comes out convinced she will meet the right guy but bumps into her best friends brother

The will they won’t they got me from the start and I couldn’t wait to get to the happy ending

Cute romance

I love Kate O’Keefe’s books. This one wasn’t my favorite because I didn’t connect to the characters as well as I have in some of her others. However the story is super cute.

Different

This book was different from O’Keeffe’s other books in that it provided a dual POV. Taylor and Jake. I always like that, because you get both sides of the story. And it was less innocent than her other books. Bedroom doors open. It had a different tone. A different style.

It was well written. Easy-to-read. Light-hearted. Pleasant for a long time. I really liked Taylor at first. She’s rational, cautious, holding back, and I could relate because I was that way in my twenties as well. Jake couldn’t possibly be the right guy for her, right? Too much of a player. But his playing days are behind him, he’s ready for more, only she doesn’t know that.

But. Yes, there are some buts. This wasn’t as addictive as O’Keeffe’s other books. Not her best in my opinion. All of her books I’ve read so far (before this one) have ended up at the top of my favorites list. Not this one though. I think the biggest negative for me was the fact that the cycle of doubt - yes - no - doubt again - yes - no - doubt yet again … (and so on, you get the picture) was repeated too often. Just when you thought they were finallt THERE, doubt settled back in. There wasn’t much else to the story than that. Oh, Jake had some things going on in his restaurant and Taylor some things at work, but that only played a very minor role. For the rest it was only “I like him, but I’m doubting, shall I say yes or run?” For a while it was fine, but after a while it starting irritating me. It got old. This endless cycle that wasn’t going anywhere. And when the HEA came, I almost couldn’t enjoy it because I was waiting for the umpteenth but/doubt to start creeping back in. The story wasn’t really enough to fill a book, but it was stretched out to make it fit.

All in all, I can’t give more than an okay. It was an okay book.

*** Spoiler alert *** !!!

The moment when Taylor starts flirting with multiple other guys RIGHT AFTER Jake has confessed his feelings for her, was the moment I knew this wasn’t the book for me. And she did it RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM! I was so disappointed in her! It’s a big deal for a guy to confess his feelings and for her to trample all over them?!
