After breaking up with Carter when she found out that he started his relationship with her as revenge towards Jake, Freya’s ex, and his new girlfriend, Amy ( she was one of Carter’s flavors, for whom Carter has special affection and that she cheated on him with Jake), she falls into depression.
For weeks she avoids all contact with Carter until Ethan gives him a letter from Carter asking for forgiveness, telling her how much he loves her and will never forget her. She sends him a message but he never answers her.
A year goes by and Freya is working for Carter’s rival. Her boss ordered her to go with him and her assistant to Paris to sign a new client. There she sees Carter again with his date, but he ends up following her outside the restaurant and kisses her and asks her to meet up with him the next day. She realizes that she saw Carter the night before enter his room with his date while they were kissing very passionately. He tells her that the real reason for him to be in Paris was to see her.(And she falls for it. A man says that he loves you, that he misses you, that he has traveled to see you, but while he hooks up with another). But later that night Carter goes to Freya’s room and they end up sleeping together while his date is waiting for him in his room. When Freya goes to his room to see him, Carter’s date opens the door and tells her that she is his girlfriend. Oh yes! Carter lie to her again, and what Freya does? Nothing, he waits until Carter gets rid of her girlfriend, sleeps with him again and start to make plans for their future together.WTF!
Here from there and even at the end of the book I started to dislike a little this couple. Freya for coming back with him so easily and Carter bc what happens in Paris was awful for my taste. He knew that he was going to see Freya bc one of Freya’s friends help him, and even knowing it he takes his girlfriend and sleeps with her the night before?????
“For starters, she isn’t my girlfriend, she is my date. Secondly, I didn’t want you to be like her. I wanted you to be like you.” He slowly ran his finger across my lip then started trailing it down my chin and across my jawline. My breath caught. Just feeling his touch against my skin brought everything back.
“I didn’t come here for Jude,” he said bluntly. “I came here for you.” I turned to face him. “Why are you lying? If you came for me, you wouldn’t have come with her. Don’t bullshit me, Carter.” I shook my head as I stood and walked round to the end of the bed. “Please, Freya. I’m not bullshitting you.” He sat up in bed and sighed, his sage eyes burning into mine. “Well, I am here, but it doesn’t change anything. You’re with her. Can you just go, please?” I didn’t want him to go. I wanted to stay snuggling into him all night, but I couldn’t be that girl. “Fine. If that’s what you want. I’m not going to Jude’s signing tomorrow. I will be in my room. Chloé is going home tomorrow morning. The offer is still there to spend the day with me. I don’t want to lose you again, Freya.” I smiled and looked down at my feet. Carter didn’t move from in front of me. I swallowed hard and looked back up at him. “How can you lose something you never had?”
“Baby, I’m so sorry. I left the room to speak to reception. She told me she would be gone by the time I got back.” I nodded. “I text you as I hadn’t heard from you. I thought you’d changed your mind,” I mumbled. I unbent my legs and kicked my Converse together, puckering my lips. “Never, Freya. I told you. I don’t want to lose you again.” I just sat there. “Honestly, Freya. I don’t. This past year has been hell.” He sighed. “Yes, Chloé was more than a date, but I made it very obvious that it was just a ‘thing’.” He looked at me, searching for my response. I just stared in front of me. “Chloé knew this was going to happen, especially knowing what would happen if I saw you again. She was my therapy, in a way, after everything. I didn’t want to tell my mum and Ava as I didn’t want them to hate me. They love you so much.” I looked up at him. They love me? Just as I went to speak, he carried on. “But not as much as I do.” His eyes widened, and he looked lost. He was staring deep into my eyes. He moved closer to me, steadying his breath. “I really do,” he whispered, his lips brushing against mine. I just wanted to climb onto his lap there and then and devour him in the hotel hallway.
