Books 7-9 (But Not Forlorn, But Not Formidable, and But Not For Love) of the Amazon best-selling Clint Wolf Mystery Series by award-winning author BJ Bourg is now available as a boxed set:

BUT NOT FORLORN

The political race to determine the next mayor of Mechant Loup is heating up...literally. When one of the candidates is burned to death in a fiery blaze, Clint Wolf and Susan Wilson go straight from their honeymoon to investigating a brutal homicide. While there are a number of suspects, evidence and witnesses are lacking, and narrowing the list down becomes a challenge.

A late night attack on a Mechant Loup police officer leads to a curious discovery, but exactly how this discovery factors into the case is anybody's guess. Clint will have to reach out to the local media for help...and it might turn out to be the best decision he's made throughout the case. However, no one will be rejoicing when this investigation is over, and it's unlikely anyone from the police department will ever be the same again.

BUT NOT FORMIDABLE

It’s a warm September afternoon in the sleepy town of Mechant Loup, a tornado has just ripped through town, and Detective Clint Wolf is searching for a missing school teacher. Not only are details sketchy and witnesses nonexistent, but a formidable Category 4 hurricane is heading straight for the Louisiana coast--and it’s threatening to erase every scintilla of evidence that might lead to the missing woman.

Even as the outer rain bands of the hurricane begin battering Mechant Loup, Clint makes a grisly discovery in the dead of night and suddenly realizes he’s dealing with a cold-blooded killer--but that revelation leaves him with more questions than answers.

When the pieces of the investigative puzzle finally start falling into place, Clint will have to answer a question of his own--did he finally meet a suspect he couldn't take down?

BUT NOT FOR LOVE

On the living room floor of a lonely farm house in Chateau Parish, Louisiana, there rests the body of a young woman named Allie—the victim of a horrific attack.

A little farther to the south, Detective Clint Wolf is leaving the Mechant Loup Police Department when he hears the screams of a terrified female. Jumping into action, he responds to the area and arrests the woman's husband for attacking her with a pipe. Almost immediately after Clint wraps up the arrest and returns home, Police Chief Susan Wilson receives a welfare call from Allie’s mother saying she hadn’t heard from Allie in hours.

When Clint responds to the welfare concern with Mallory Tuttle, a detective from the Chateau Parish Sheriff’s Office, they discover Allie’s body. An investigation ensues and it isn’t long before they make an arrest for murder. However, when another woman is killed days later, they delve deeper into Allie’s case and unearth some disturbing similarities.

A tip from a young boy and a trip to the northern mountains of Georgia might shed some light on the motive, but locating the killer will be anything but easy—or safe.

Three more interesting, quick reads

But Not Forlorn (Book seven)

Book seven begins with a particularly gruesome murder which occurs the day Clint and Susan return from their honeymoon. Welcome home! The victim is the man running against Pauline for mayor so naturally suspicion centers on her. Clint has divided loyalties and his angst about it makes up a significant part of the storyline.

Angst and guilt and lying and loyalty are central themes in this book. The author does a good job with the mystery and a lucky, nearly missed action leads Clint to his big break.

A lot of the storyline centers on Melvin and his guilt from not being able to save the victim and the impact of his job on his family. It’s been brought up several times in previous books as well. The author does a great job conveying the fallout that first responders have as a result of their jobs, especially the people they can’t save.

The climatic events make you hold your breath and it’s a strong ending.

On a separate note, I don’t know if the author changed editors and/or proofreaders but there are quite a few errors and inconsistencies in this book that I’ve not noticed in previous books. Always annoying to me as it takes my head out of the story.

But Not Formidable (Book eight)

Book eight is another solid entry in the series. A woman is found murdered just as a hurricane bears down on Mechant Loup. The two concurrent storylines in this book are the preparations and cleanup from the hurricane and the murder investigation.

It seems that it would be an impossible crime to solve. They can’t locate a crime scene, the hurricane would wash away any evidence, and they don’t have any real suspects.

When Clint finally zeroes in on a suspect he can’t shake him and he still doesn’t have any real evidence. A stroke of luck dumps important evidence in his lap and the climax makes you hold your breath. There are a few pieces that seem implausible and a few mistakes a detective of Clint’s experience wouldn’t make but overall a good mystery. And once again Achilles is a hero!

But Not For Love (Book nine)

Mixed feelings on this one as I didn’t have a lot of sympathy for the victims. And I know all the reasons re why DV victims don’t leave their abusers but these women had left, pressed charges and had the means to be independent. So being annoyed with them (guess I’m too judge mental!) made it hard to care as much about the murderer. Also, kill add that I knew who the killer was immediately so I was irritated that no one else figured it out and super annoyed as to one of the people they suspected.

Having said all that I guess it was a clever story and raised some interesting points about culpability for future murders. Not one of the better books but still a good, quick read.

Clint Wolf, Books 7 - 9

Impetuous ...

It’s a thin line between saving lives and taking them. Yet there it is, an insurmountable force that defines officers of the law.

There’s repercussions in living with such deeds—the emotional stress realizing you could have lost your life, its affects to those you love, and the effects on their lives without you.

Suppressed feelings ...

It becomes a way of life. A thin blue line. The blood you shed that flows through your blue veins is the cost to serve.

And death, the price you pay in tribute to your last full measure of devotion ...

Once again, BJ Bourg, weaves his magic in misdirects that spins your mind into a tizzy—as he leads you down a path grasping at threads—reaching out for a clue, any clue ...

Most times, only to discover a deadend leading to more confusion?! Just when you begin to feel a pattern ... he does an about face!

Domestic violence—a duty call that gets you right smack in the middle! A mystery in itself bordering on a thin line between cruelty, emotion, and physical harm—then add murder with violence of such vicious & hideous attacks of unimaginable suffering ...

This is a such an easy and fast paced mystery flowing steadily as you race through effortless in a compelling frenzy to reach the end ... why?—to understand what the heck happened!

Really, I needed a break after this one!

A remarkable writer—Truly a good read that does not disappoint ....

Enough of Clint and Susan

I fell like the excitement of reading Clint Wolf mystery series has gone. I'm not sure if I can take Clint as a romantic character over a dare devil of a police officer. This story was good but the romance between Clint and Susan was stomach churning throughout the narrative so enough of Clint already. I really don't want to follow him any longer

A crime thriller

These three books are very good reading they will keep you reading well into the night. The author with his knowledge of police work and his style of writing makes you feel like you're there and can feel the emotions of the officers and they develop a case

People we depend on...turned bad

Books 7-9 showed me first responders have their lives too...some good and some with problems. It was great to see Sandra is with child and their family looking forward to great years ahead. I loved the characters and the skillful way the bad guys stayed hidden. Looking forward to the next set of books.

another Hit

Wow! Another well written THRILLER! These twists at the end I have not been able to figure out. Usually I have it figured out who edit by the end! But not this series. I love the story lines and the dedication of the Law Enforcement Officers. There’s a surprise drop in of an officer from the beginning of the series. You’ll enjoy this book if you like Thrillers!

Great series!

I love this series! I read through them so quickly because they are addicting! My only beef is why he doesn’t bring his dog with him more. Since he’s a police detective, he’d be allowed to. He brought him more in the last book and the dog saved his life. I hate that poor Achilles is left home alone so much. Other than that- love these books.

Entertaining

Book 7 intense and the best of these three. Book 8 had murder in a hurricane and ended with Clint feeling misplaced guilt Book 9 had a convoluted revenge surrounding domestic violence, but was annoying with continual depiction of weakness in early pregnancy.

I like reading this author; he knows the law so he's very aware of what works and what doesn't. Susan and Clint work well together. The storm provided extra excitement while searching for a murderer. It's a good read.

Great read. Figured out the outcome only at the end which makes this series very addictive. Loads of twists and turns and leaves you wanting more. Too bad he did not take his dog to more of his adventures.

Great read

I love the disguise of a murderer in this book. Crazy, but good for their needs. The cooperation between agencies was good, but a Sheriff who didn’t want to lead to all sorts of questions.

A reviewer called the author "the real deal" because he is also a recognized Louisiana law enforcement officer. I will read more of his books.

Ehh... Not great but not terrible. These books contain quite a bit of unrealistic action by the characters. They're mostly readable but slightly lacking.
