Alex travels to the Arctic with her explorer father, to return Siku, a little white fox, to its natural habitat. There she makes friends with a young Inuit boy, whose own father has disappeared and is believed to be dead. When the two children discover something that links Siku with Canny's missing father, the Sharman or wise man, tells Canny he must go and search for him. A heart-warming little story about a trip to return an arctic fox to its natural habitat that becomes a quest for a missing man. Written for children, this slim volume was tucked up on my bookshelves and I couldn't remember reading it (it's probably been at least twenty years and back then I often read a couple of books a day...). As part of the big 'let's read the books I own' challenge this year, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story touches gently on issues of grief and estrangement, but focuses on kindness and hope. The child's introduction to aspects of Inuit culture was creatively written and has made me want to look up more about Inuit myths and beliefs, so even though it's a simple story, it's a little window into something fascinatingly different for most children.

I liked this book. It was bought for me at a young age and told the story of a young boy and his Father, who find an Arctic Fox and go on a journey to take it back to it's natural habitat, encountering many adventures along the way. It was a heart-warming story, written very well by a talented author.
