For the record? Alex didn’t fall down the rabbit hole. She jumped. And that might have been a mistake. While fleeing her controlling asshole of an ex-fiance, Alexandra Kincade accidentally opens a portal to Wonderland. Yes, that Wonderland. But instead of a whimsical, colorful world of tarts and tea-parties, Alex finds a divided empire at the mercy of a sweeping darkness that’s painting the roses—and everything else—dead. As a descendant of the first Alice (yes, that Alice), Alex carries what might be the only magic powerful enough to save this crumbling world. Problem is, she can’t wield it alone. Enter the four kings of Wonderland. Each one is a different compliment to her power. And each one is desperate and willing to do whatever it takes to save their world—even if that means sharing Wonderland’s one true queen and her magic. But can Alex possibly be strong enough to save—and love— them all? This set contains all three books in the complete Her Wonderland Kings series, a reverse harem Alice in Wonderland retelling full of plenty of humor and heat! Recommended for mature readers only.
This was a fun read but I felt like something was missing. While escaping her controlling ex, Alex jumps into a Rabbit hole to escape the drama. She's thrown off when a couple of hot men jump out of said hole and start fighting with her ex. Turns out Alex is the long lost granddaughter of the original Alice and Wonderland needs her help. Parts of the book felt regurgitated and like I've read the same plot before but there were some original concepts that separated the book from other RH Wonderland reads. There were some interesting and rather unexpected twists and turns that I thought made the book more interesting such as I don't think I really bonded with any of the characters which is unfortunate but given the pacing I felt they were harder to pin down the details on who was who. The book may be long but it is the combination of a trilogy so it flows really well and I thought read fairly fast. Good RH series if you're looking for an all-in-one.
Alex Kincade was living her normal life, preparing to marry a man who's been in her life since her parents died years ago. It is not a healthy relationship (mentally abusive), and before the wedding, she decides to run off in the middle of the evening. Then comes a meeting of the realms as the Earth opens up and cast out the four kings of Wonderland. They weren't expecting to show up either; they were dragged there by unseen forces. But it's fortuitous because Alex is descended from a queen of Wonderland, and within her resides the heartstone. The kings have similar stones they weren’t aware of, which can be only called forth when each king falls in love with her and her with him. Why is this important? There has been an encroaching darkness that has already overtaken three of the kingdoms, and a magical lady believes that if the crown of the queen of Wonderland is restored its stones (from the queen and the four kings), then light shall be able to overtake the darkness. Wonderland will be well again.
Being a modern woman, Alex isn't quite sure what to make of all this. Her first instinct tells her to try to get back to her own world. She is drawn to each of these men, who are each distinct in their personalities. But she is not sure if she wants to be burdened with saving a world that is not her own. That she feels as if Earth is her home, even though others in Wonderland try to make her see that Wonderland has always been her home.
It's a fun, mature take on the Alice in Wonderland story; we get to see the Cheshire cat, the White rabbit, and other original denizens of the children’s story. I loved all the personalities of the Kings; Emory was a favorite. I saw only a few grammar and punctuation errors, but nothing distracted from my enjoyment of the work.
heroine \\ Alex harem \\ Adrian, Rhett, Emory, Caden
In a nutshell: Alex is running away from her abusive fiancé when 4 guys suddenly appear out of nowhere to save the day and her fiancé turns out to be a bad guy from the same magical world the mystery guys are from. Turns out, Alex is the descendant of Alice from Wonderland and she's the key to saving the world. The mystery guys are the kings of Wonderland and they are destined to be her loves. Queue betrayals, amnesia, war, plot twists, and drama.
This was alright, but didn't really hold my attention. I found myself skimming a lot, especially during the unnecessary drama and confusing emotional outbursts. Alex was prone to getting on my nerves more often than not with her wishy-washy attitude and indecisiveness. I suppose she was trying to come off as this strong heroine thrown into a crazy unknown situation, but some of her bouts of stubbornness were more idiotic than anything.
The guys felt pretty cookie cutter to me, conforming to an expectation of what they should be as opposed to actually being individual personalities. I get that the author was trying to distinguish them, but it didn't really feel genuine or I'd get confused occasionally. For example, that whole betrayal business made sense but didn't make sense. It was so quick and easily forgiven that I didn't really see the point, other than to introduce the first bad guy.
The whole plot with Alice was a really good idea and would have made this so much for interesting if it had just been executed better. It was fairly obvious from the beginning what was going on there. I wish there would have been more depth to her relationship with her kings and the Nightmarcher, but it came off so shallow. Maybe that was the intent, but it could have made for a really interesting backstory.
NOTE: I did not totally finish these novels – ended up skimming the last half of the last novel in this three-book series.
This series started out well enough. The plot is based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and is quite imaginative. The author manages to pull off this aspect of the novels fairly well.
Aside from the errors (“should have ran”? Truly?), my biggest complaint concerns the heroine, “Alex,” who is the granddaughter of the original “Alice.” To me, Alex was weak, timid, and inconsistent. The character continually put herself in harms’ way, in spite of having a good idea beforehand of how bad the outcome would be. It was exhausting to follow Alex through the novels as she succeeds for a moment, only to stumble (sometimes literally) and have to be rescued either by one of the kings in her harem, or by the Cheshire Cat (“Lewis” in this series).
The four main heroes also seemed like cardboard cut-outs to me – I wasn’t given enough information about them to become invested in their battle against the evil that was consuming “Wonderland.” In fact, it seemed to me that their only reason for existence was to pick up Alex each time she tripped, fell or failed (which was every chapter or so).
The romance didn’t hit any high notes for me, either. These novels are definitely “slow burn,” which I don’t mind in the least, but all of the aborted attempts at consummations in the first two novels became annoying after a while. When something finally did happen, it seemed to happen without any rhyme or reason, making things seem more “meh” than they should have been.
So, while I think the storyline was imaginative and had potential, the lack of character development really smothered the life out of these novels.
This complete series boxset provides an excellent value way to read an interesting series of books. A new twist on the Alice in Wonderland theme (though starring her granddaughter Alex), I loved seeing the different characters and features of the original stories pop up in these new stories, while also experiencing the author's excellent creative talents. So if you're a Lewis Carroll fan, like paranormal romance (of the reverse haram variety), or are just looking for something a bit different to read, why not try this series? You won't be disappointed. NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions Individual books: Book 1: War of hearts (5*) 14-15/2 This first book introduces us to Alex, her Kings, and the new world of Wonderland. It's a great story, with a thrilling ending. Can't wait to continue on with book 2! Book 2: Betrayal of Hearts (5*) 15-16/2 The second book in the series, this sees Alex and her Kings face the Nightmarcher, and Alex face an impossible choice - betray her Kings or see them die. Full of action and drama, with a twist of romance, this is a great continuation of the storyline, and I can't wait to read the thrilling conclusion! Book 3: Queen of hearts (5*) 16-18/2 This thrilling conclusion to the series sees Alex and her Kings battling the Nightmarcher and his army, as well as trying to stop Alice taking over Alex's body. Full of more twists and turns, ups and downs than a rollercoaster, this is an exciting finale to the trilogy, and I really enjoyed reading it.
War of hearts This is a unique take on Alice in Wonderland. It is fantastically written and has amazing characters. The storyline is is great and draws you in. It starts out full of action and drama and continues as it progresses. The ending of this does end in a cliffhanger and by reading the box set I can continue right on to the next one in the series.
Betrayal Of Hearts Oh the twists and turns this one has. It has betrayal and love all wrapped together. You see strength and honor among thieves, friends, and foes. It is extremely well written and the characters keep growing and getting more interesting. The descriptions in the first two books are very vivid. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Queen Of Hearts Wow! This had one fantastic ending. It as with the other two is extremely well written and we see Alex and her men grow so much in this one. It has so much action and drama that you are on the edge of your seat. This series is a must read and with the box set there no waiting on the next book. It is definitely worth reading and doesn’t disappoint!!!!
I SO enjoyed this series! I loved the guys and our main character. I enjoyed watching their relationships grow as well as our main character stand up for herself and be the strong queen she is. I really enjoyed the authors writing style. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t stop reading until I finished all three books. The ONLY question I’m left with is what happened to her shade ex boyfriend? Is he stuck in the mortal world or did they kill him? Is he going to come after her? That unanswered question is a super small issue and doesn’t ruin the story for me at all, it’s just something I wondered about. Overall I loved these books. There wasn’t a ton of errors, except at one point I did get a little confused when they were referring to Alice, at on point they said she was Allisons great grandmother, but another part Alice said she gave birth to Allison’s mother, which would make her a grandmother, not her great grandmother. Maybe I just read it wrong, but it confused me a little soooo.
I am absolutely in love with this series. I would love to read another part to this series. The plot line sucked me right in and I couldn't stop reading. And who.doesn't love a female heroine who lives in a world where people love tea and she doesnt. The certain deaths of the staff in the last book were greatly thought out. I laughed to parts and I cried to parts.
Nice reads. Interesting with a couple good twists. I have some problems with sentences that make NO sense, poorly built story lines and Oh, the ex? Who is your editor? I'd be disappointed. I gave 3/12 stars. Mostly for the latter. The books were really nice fun reads.
Interesting plot, but the content was a little shallow
I liked the overall story, but it could have benefited from deeper content. Several times it seemed like there was so much time that passed and the story just picked up at a random point. No elaboration on everything that happened in the period that was skipped.
Wonderful series. A new take on these stories. Great characters with depth, emotions, intrigue and much more. And stories written new in a way to drag you in and keep your attention. I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended. I was given a review copy by booksprout and voluntarily review it.
Her Wonderland Kings: The Complete Series by Stefanie Marie is a wonderful box set that I read. This is a wonderful box set writen by a brand new author for me and I highly recommend this box set to everyone.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Couldn't stop reading kept me on The edge of my seat!!! Loved loved the re make of Alice In Wonderland Very imaginative! Loved Alex and the 4 kings and that their love conquered all. High,y recommend this series.
I really enjoyed her version of Alice. I thought that she could go a bit more in the King's characters. Almost felt like they were forgotten at times. Other than that, I definitely enjoyed it. Look forward to reading more of her books.
I've read several takes on the Wonderland story and this will definitely be one of my favorites. I loved the concepts and the rollercoaster emotions that happened through the series.
I am a sucker for an Alice retelling and this one didn’t disappoint. It was a great twist on the original story and I will definitely be checking out other books by the author.
"If not tea, then perhaps you would like to keep this cat?"
There are some great reviews on here already, so I'm not going to get into it. I almost DNF'd this series, I'm not too sure why, I guess I was in the mood for a steamier read thank this was. Sexy times don't start until book 2, I'd give it a 2/5 for spice. No MM. Won't read it again.
