In providing this translation a review I want to bring to notice two things.
First, the SOTUS system or in simple terms hazing. Although few countries might even not know what this means, this is a very delicate topic within our country. Depending on the exposure for hazing, the reaction of one for the book could be different. Personally I am someone who is anti-hazing. Seeing different tragedies occurring due to hazing within our country I am someone who strongly believes that hazing should be completely banned. If I was one on the receiving end of the SOTUS system, I am sure I'd be one of those people who are work against it. Then again it depends on the severity too. I do not if it is normal or due to the nature of the book, hazing here is somewhat subdued (yes there are worse cases here in my country) yet I do not support the system. This personal observation might have slightly affected my rating for the book.
Second, the TV adaptation of this book is one that is completely true to the book. Although with the main factor of Arthit's character not having similarity in terms of appearance between the novel and series, the TV adaptation comes close to perfection. The manner in the story flows too was beautiful. For many SOTUS was the start of Thai BL and the fact that the story was not toxic and just a development of two people falling in love along with the great chemistry between Krist and Singto clearly helped the case. For me this was definitely a love story that I can rewatch (if I turn a blind eye towards the hazing that is).
Compared to many other stories where the nature of relationship takes a very toxic turn (I am sorry but why do authors do that?) this had a steady flow. From the characters noticing and developing feelings to finally coming into terms was paced quite nicely. There weren't many moments you felt your heart twinge but there were many moments that made you slightly smile. All in all the story was satisfying without involving your heart much but if you really want to enjoy SOTUS I would highly recommend the TV adaptation. With that final note I shall part with some promotional images of the TV adaptation as I always do with such novels.
I am sorry TV Arthit was much cuter than novel Arthit and I love Krist for portraying him that way.

I only watched the drama. It's BL drama from Thailand. It's about head-hazer and his freshman. It was funny and cute. Although you wouldn't like one of the MC's at the beginning. Because he was such a jerk to his love interest. But eventually, you're gonna love him. There is the official video on youtube. It's already English subbed. And there is also season 2 (Sotus S the series) coming up soon on 9 Dec. So excited!

Pero bueno, me ha servido para saber de dónde venía el sistema SOTUS de las universidades tailandesas y todas las tradiciones que veo en las series de universitarios ( y de ingeniería en particular).

Bueno, los capítulos especiales han sido meh, insatisfactorios.

I will warn that the translation can be a bit dodgy at times, but the translator doesn't have English or Thai as their first language, and the Thai language can be hard to translate into English.
SOTUS is a gay high school romance. Kongpob is a first year industrial engineering student at university. For him, and other first years, to be socially accepted at university they have to go through the SOTUS system (it's a system that's supposed to garner respect from the older generation, and form a sense of brotherhood, but it can also be seen as a hazing ritual). The third year head hazer is Arthit. From the beginning Kongpob causes trouble for him running SOTUS, and through their interactions a romance forms.
I watched the incredibly successful Thai drama adaption of this book and I quite liked it. I didn't love it completely though, but the series did get me into watching Thai dramas. I do like the book more than the tv series I think. This is because you get an insight into both of the characters thoughts. If you only watch the tv series, you only really see Kongpob's thoughts so it is harder to understand Arthit. On top of that Arthit is tsundere, so it's incredibly hard to see if he likes Kongpob romantically, but the book helps clear that up and it is so sweet both of their thoughts. I do want to say though, the overall plot of the drama is slightly better. The tv series adds a lot more drama to make it more entertaining. Sub plots of romances, and other people crushing on the main couple. But overall, I quite enjoyed reading this book. I read it every possible opportunity that I had!
In terms of the characters, I think Kongpob is my favourite character. I do like Arthit, but some of his actions I didn't like, even when we know the thoughts behind it. Kongpob is just a cutie-pie who happens to be a bit of a flirt haha. Other than the main characters, nobody else was really that developed. I was surprised at how much P'Nott was in the book though. In the tv show, his character does tend to get eclipsed by the other stronger voices.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I'm not sure if I would read it again in English, but then I'm not sure if I will ever become fluent enough in Thai to read it in Thai. I do like it enough to want to get a physical Thai copy of this book when I get the chance. I would recommend you reading this book if you are a fan of the tv show!

The cultural differences in college life are amazingly interesting. The story is sweet, but not too much. It is a great book... now off to the live-action series. ^_^

i mean?? im sorry to everyone who likes this, but that isn't me. essentially this is a 'love story' between the third year head hazer+the freshman who stands up to him slightly.
the hazing system was very interesting, as i am someone whose uni experience consists of showing up to my seminars and limiting my interactions to the bare minimum(aka doing group projects). honestly, the only place where i have seen such treatment was in military schools. but it led me down a rabbit hole of reading about the sotus system and general hierarchy in thailand, which was much more interesting than the whole book. i think there is a lot of discussion to be had about enforcing discipline, respect and order just on the basis of seniority, who are almost allowed to do anything, and how this affects society overall. and apparently the events of the book are tame compared to what actually goes down.
sadly though, the book didn't actually challenges this system. the seniors(and specifically arthit's) treatment is seen as care and love, even though arthit actually abuses the power he has, and constantly treats kongpob like shit, who just follows him around like a puppy who got a treat after getting kicked in the ribs twice. the drama is a mostly faithful adaptation, but the actors bring out the emotions behind the characters a bit better, so arthit was slightly more likable there for me, but i'm still not a big fan. i also don't really like kongpob and what he even sees in arthit, because arthit's human side?? that he likes to sleep until noon and drinks pink milk. thank u, i like him immediately. mans paid for his lunch once(which he put enough chili in to be inedible for kongpob) and reminded him to take the oranges the nurse girl gave him and kongpob just fell in love... raise your standards a bit, baby.
idk, their relationship was okay, but i somehow never got invested in it and i don't feel like there was much substance.

เรื่องนี้คือดี~~~ สารภาพว่าได้ยินเรื่องนี้มาน๊านนานแล้ว จนมาทำเป็นซีรียส์ โดนไซโคยังไงก็ไม่ยอมอ่านสักที หลังจากลองดูซีรียส์กลายเป็นติดซะงั้น เลยหานิยายมาอ่านไปพร้อมๆกัน สนุกพอๆกันเลย เป็นนิยายวายน่ารักใสๆ อ่านได้ไม่เบื่อที่อยากแนะนำค่ะ
พี่อาทิตย์คือที่สุดดดด เวลาเขินนี่โคตรน่ารัก แต่เวลาซึนละอยากโบกให้หัวทิ่ม55 แกจะซึนเบอร์ใหญ่อะไรขนาดนี้ สงสารน้องก้องภพเหมือนกัน แต่นี่ก็เป็นเสน่ห์ของอาทิตย์ที่ทำให้คนอ่าน(รวมถึงก้อง) หลงรักอะนะ
คิดว่าเรื่องนี้เหมาะกับคนที่ชอบแนว character-driven story นะ มันเน้นการเติบโตของสองตัวละครหลักมาก โดยเฉพาะอาทิตย์ คนเขียนทำได้ดีมาก อ่านตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบแล้วรู้สึกว่าพี่ไออุ่นของพวกเราโตขึ้นเรื่อยๆ มุมมองเปลี่ยนไปจริงๆ

Such an amazing BL story!!! No words to describe how wonderful this story is and how special this is compared to other BL series. Simply wonderful!!! And thank you Bittersweet (the author) for writing such a wonderful BL story that capture the essence of Thai University life and relationship between two guys in love.

ลังเลมานาน ในที่สุดก็ตัดสินใจซื้อมาอ่าน อ่านไม่จบแฮะคะ อยู่ที่ครึ่วเรื่อง แล้วก็ไปอ่านเรื่อวอื่นๆอีกมากมาย จะพยายามมาอ่านจนจบอีกทีเพราะอ่านรีวิวว่าเป็นเรื่องที่น่ารัก

Deciding to fully reread this again thanks to my friend who couldn't seem to stop talking about this book and mostly because I barely remember anything when I first read it lol. And as expected it was just soooooo GOOOOOOD. For one, I really like the fact that the tv series adaptation was made as closely as possible to its original material; like 99% parts of this book were exactly the same you'd imagine when it's made in a form of series. The series itself is my favorite BL show (I don't do rewatch for others shows lmfao but can't seem to stop replaying bits here and there for this one) and reading the book was definitely helpful on fleshing out both Arthit and Kongpob's character depth, diving more into the subtlety of their interactions no matter how futile it was.
So yeah, I really like there are more thorough explanation regarding their impressions towards each other, what ultimately made them different in each other's perspective, the ever-engaging bits of gradually discovering their feelings while still being written as lighthearted as possible. Arthit was even cuter here, and I guess the best part of this was during the time they're confused over their feelings, and we got to see pieces of Kongpob seriously considering whatever he felt towards Arthit, and how it'd be hard to take another step because they're both men, and how in spite of everything they just couldn't control their feelings anymore. It's so wonderful to see this written in a less intricate sense and how the focus were more on them and their unresolved feelings rather than the realistic take of how the relationship will turn out (Sotus S will be in charge for that lol). It's sweet even when it doesn't bear grand gestures, heartfluttering as crazy, and overall a type of read that is plain yet bursting with fluff. Highkey recommended!

And as expected it was just soooooo GOOOOOOD. For one, I really like the fact that the tv series adaptation was made as closely as possible to its original material; like 99% parts of this book were exactly the same you'd imagine when it's made in a form of series. The series itself is my favorite BL show (I don't do rewatch for others shows lmfao but can't seem to stop replaying bits here and there for this one) and reading the book was definitely helpful on fleshing out both Arthit and Kongpob's character depth, diving more into the subtlety of their interactions no matter how futile it was.
So yeah, I really like there are more thorough explanation regarding their impressions towards each other, what ultimately made them different in each other's perspective, the ever-engaging bits of gradually discovering their feelings while still being written as lighthearted as possible. Arthit was even cuter here, and I guess the best part of this was during the time they're confused over their feelings, and we got to see pieces of Kongpob seriously considering whatever he felt towards Arthit, and how it'd be hard to take another step because they're both men, and how in spite of everything they just couldn't control their feelings anymore. It's so wonderful to see this written in a less intricate sense and how the focus were more on them and their unresolved feelings rather than the realistic take of how the relationship will turn out (Sotus S will be in charge for that lol). It's sweet even when it doesn't bear grand gestures, heartfluttering as crazy, and overall a type of read that is plain yet bursting with fluff. Highkey recommended!

May 24, 2021This is my all-time favorite BL novel. I came to it through the amazing series with Krist Perawat Sangpotirat and Singto Prachaya Ruangroj on YouTube, after reading several fan fictions on Wattpad, I sought a copy and was amazed how much I adored this novel.
It plays out a little differently than the series. We get inside Arthit's head and emotions, and discover that he's not the hardass that he's made himself out to be. In fact, it bothers him greatly that he was asked to be a hazer because of his genuinely soft heart. He doesn't enjoy yelling and scaring the pretty girls, which endeared him more to me as I read this novel. In fact, there were many touches along the novel that I'd wished they'd put into the series.
When Kongpob and Arthit first meet, they meet vastly differently than their first meeting in the cheer room. He, Kongpob, challenges everything Arthit says or does as the head hazer, even going so far to say that he'd take Arthit's gear, a symbol of the engineering department, in a unique and now iconic, way.
Soon, they are in a dog and cat relationship, which slowly grows into something neither expected.

Aaah, aquela farofa de sempre.
SOTUS tem um lugar especial no meu coração, então eu amei ver a versão escrita finalmente acessível (mas com MUITOS erros grotescos e dá pra ver que a tradução não foi feita de forma profissional, infelizmente).
Quem viu a série vai gostar de "rever" tudo aqui, mas quem for começar pela novel provavelmente não vai entender muita coisa, porque não tem quase nada explicado - o sistema, os personagens, nada. Tudo é muito jogado. Parece uma fanfic de site online genérico.
É muito ruim, mesmo, mas também é MUITO BOM.
Só pesquisem um tico pra saber sobre cultura tailandesa antes, porque vai ajudar (se não viu a série).
A versão em inglês disponível na amazon tem extras - quatro contos, que são adaptados nos episódios da série também, por isso ela é maiorzinha (o último conto é o início de SOTUS 2). Mas a trama mesmo é BEM pequena e rápida. A série é LITERALMENTE a novel.
O livro mesmo acaba nos 77%.
ps.: tem uma cena aqui que é IDÊNTICA a uma de The Love Hypothesis e que fiquei um pouco chocada??

Que puedo decir. Adoré a estos personajes. Leerlo es como ver la serie y más. Saber sus pensamientos, su proceso, su compatibilidad, woooow.
Leer a Kongpob fue muy divertido porque se ve que lo ama a sobremanera, no quiere estar lejos, es tierno y un tanto sobreprotector. Y cuando en el libro expresaba su sentir, se me hinchaba el pecho jajaja
Leer a Arthit, fue también divertido porque es testarudo a morir y el como fue descubriendo su sentir también fue encantador.
Las escenas especiales, fueron tan reveladoras y geniales que me hicieron quererlos más.
Obvi, ando en busca de la segunda parte.
Le leí en 3 días. Lo devoré. Lo amé.

I believe the author Bittersweet put a lesson into their story Sotus because of the reason that I was able to see it by the end. Communications between relationships/friendships are extremely important. There were many incidents between Kongpob and Arthit could have just talked instead of having just kept what they were feeling inside and end up almost never getting together because of a misunderstanding.

Read a fan-translated version. I watched the BL series first. It seems like the series really followed the book to a tee from what I get in this translation at least. This is really not something I feel like I see often in adaptions outside of what I've seen in BL. I'm sure it adds to why the shows do work so well for the fans. It's true to the original content. Planning on reading the translated version of the follow-up book as well.

Every time I feel burdened, I come back to this novel. There's something soothing about it. I don't know what. It's just I can never let go of Sotus. No matter how much I try. Maybe I've thanked Krist zillion times on insta for portraying the role of Arthit. The novel has an aching pain. It calms down my heart. I can write hours and hours about this one. If the writer ever sees this, I love you!!! Thank you so much for creating this. Really really thank you ❤️

ดาวเฉพาะนิยาย อ่านเรื่อยๆ สไตล์มุ้งมิ้ง ดราม่าไม่หนัก ชอบตรงที่คีพคาแรคเตอร์ตัวละครได้ดี แต่เรื่องระบบโซตัสนี่จิ้นไม่ค่อยออกเท่าไหร่ ถึงจะไม่เคยเจอกับตัวแต่ระบบใดๆ อันบังคับขู่เข็ญนี่ไม่ค่อยอิน -> แต่ใน Sotus S มีการปรับใช้ระบบ เลยไปเพิ่มดาวให้ตรงนั้น
