Read this for a genre read for a GR group. Interesting in the sense that it was copy right in 1984. Some of the fashions are passe, but the recipes and crafts are timeless. Chose a couple of each to try.

I really like these books, big and full of crafts, recipes and decorating. The directions are not detailed but patterns are generally included and they often have instructions for obscure crafts.

This Christmas book begins with the words:

Gifts from our hands and hospitality from our hearts represent the American holiday tradition. In that spirit, the loving hands of dedicated crafts people across the country have joined ours to bring you ideas to enrich your Christmas, starting with the appliqued scene on the next page. In this section and all that follow you'll find handcrafted holiday decorations and gifts to make this Christmas - and many to come a special celebration of America's rich crafts heritage.

The scene on the next page which for some reason won't copy, is of women gathered around a quilt, sewing it I guess. It looks beautiful and like something I will never be able to accomplish. I wish I would have been listening when we learned how to sew in school. The book is very dated and is mostly sewing crafts. There are also lot and lots of recipes as any good Christmas craft book should have. The chapters are divided like this:

Christmas - A celebration of American crafts

Beloved Christmas Traditions

Christmas Magic from Everyday Things

Christmas Joys for Children

and

Old Country Customs to Cherish

If you can still this, have fun reading it.

This is really a good book. Chockablock with Christmas crafts, traditions, and recipes from all over the world. Some projects are quite involved but nonetheless intriguing. And the recipes are varied and tempting.

Have the original and pull it out every few years - so dated but it is fun to watch the trends shift in and out
