This easy-to-read, fictional account is a true-to-life composite of troubled children created by a veteran youth care specialist. Gus E. Studelmeyer, 13, is the central character and narrator. Issues Gus abuse and neglect, loyalty to family of origin, self esteem building, sensitivity to misuse of power, physical restraint, and much more.
An interesting read for anyone who works with youth who have been abused and is currently recieving treatment at a residential center. Done through the mind and eyes of a young man who has been physically, sexually & mentally abused by the adults in his life. Seeing and hearing his thoughts was very eye opening and I could see how people who work in this field could really gain a immense amount of knowledge. An interesting read.
Great book, an easy read but full of information. Any one working with at risk youth should read it. Gives you a perspective from the youths view about things we may never normally even think about.
The insights I gained in this book will never be forgotten. Gus's story made me open my eyes, and showed me a perspective I have never considered. I personally believe every individual should read this extraordinary book!!
