Perfect for teenagers and young women who like to try new looks, "10-Minute Makeup" shows 50 versatile looks that can be created in only ten minutes.
With detailed information on basic techniques, products, equipment, as well as special tips and tricks from stylist-to-the-stars Boris Entrup, "10-Minute Makeup" shows that anyone can create glamorous runway looks with these easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions and before-and-after shots.
Some how, some where, this little DK book got off track. First, it seems to be promoting makeup that takes more than 10-minutes. Second, every single example shows a thin white girl with more-or-less a perfect little oval face. I have to tell you that my daughter has perfect peaches-and-cream complexion and we were both offended by not having examples for her friends--who happen to come in all shades.
I would go into more detail about what the book will teach you but I won't because I don't suggest you waste your time. (Unless you are interested in learning how to paint bright read circles around your eyes.)
My suggestion for moms/dads looking for help for girls are the youtube videos. I think they show techniques a lot better than text and still images. My daughter and I watch Michelle and Promise Phan, Candy Johnson and others. We even watch Pink Stylists--although he is more in the monster-cosplay realm. Bond with your girls. Watch vids together. Munch popcorn and share your philosophy on makeup. We managed to get through middle-school without 'spider' eyes.
Es un buen libro, ayudaría mucho si no tienes conocimiento básico en el maquillaje, tiene bastantes tips que ayudaran mucho pero sin embargo, si ya tienes experiencia con eso del maquillaje, no te mostraría cosas nuevas!
I like how it had instructions for both natural and colorful looks. It really broke everything down at the beginning, too. I think teens will like this!
10 Minutes Make Up is a perfect for teenager and women who likes to try new look.It shows versatile looks that can be created in only ten minutes. It explains you the basic techniques and products as well as special tips and tricks from stylists to the stars.
This book was a reference for looks in makeup that readers might want to achieve. It gave pictures and instructions on how to get these certain looks. It included a list and description of tools that are needed. Skin care was discussed in some detail. Items and products used for skin care were defined and explained when and how to use. When describing the make up looks, they used before and after pictures when showing the looks. They also gave a worded description on how to obtain the look they showed in the picture. However I wish they would have shown more pictures with application techniques. It was all explained in word form and I felt I was reading the same thing over and over again. It got a bit boring. In digital format the pictures were small, so hopefully they will be bigger and more detailed in book form. This book is not for beginners. Most of the looks seemed like they would appear on the run way and were a bit over the top for everyday use. There were looks I would be open to attempt, but I felt the instructions were not enough for me to achieve the look the authors were going for. I did like the advice on colors for certain eye shape and color. Also some of the tricks they used like the spoon for applying mascara were unique. I would definitely use that. I wish they revealed more tricks that would carry over to an everyday makeup application. I was really disappointed with this book. I was expecting it to be a more hands on explanation with more pictures showing technique. It was more of a lecture and I didn’t feel I came away with learning anything. In fact after a while I grew bored reading it. I would only give it a 2 out of 5.
10 Minute Makeup is an easy to use/read guide to creating 50 simple or dynamic makeup variations. The step by step guide shows before/after shots, illustrations with the makeup, tips, and tricks to achieve the looks. Although I found the photography of the after shots to be a little lackluster, I did appreciate that the books is incredibly easy to follow and had some great information inside.
The book is broken down as follows: Basics (skincare, brushes and tools, products) and then the 50 looks, with sections based on emphasis on everything from concealer to eye lashes and smokey eyes. There are a couple of pages of beauty tips for each age decade and then some help techniques when make up goes wrong. The book is very well designed.
Nearly all the makeups are basic (only a few crazy ones, fortunately) but all are complete looks. Interspersed in the 50 styles are various techniques. I especially liked that we have photographs and illustrations, helping to better illustrate the techniques and styles better. The author also smartly put a collection of the after-image photographs in the front with page numbers to make it easy to find a specific style.
As the title suggested, these are very easy to recreate looks that don't take a lot of time. Nor do they require a wide range of difficult to get or expensive tools/cosmetics.
In all, a very good and practical book let down only by the somewhat boring and often harsh photography.
10 minute makeup caught my attention, because I am always looking for quick easy looks for days I might wake-up late for work and don't have much time. Most the time it takes me half an hour or more to get everything on my face. So when I saw this I thought I would give it a whirll.
Within the first couple of pages I had already learned something to make my routine easier. Who knew a spoon could be used for more than swelling of the eyes! This book was full of little secrets like that to help make life easier.
What I liked: -All the little secrets that this book had to offer. -The way they had a picture to demonstrate everything they were telling you to do. -The way they did a complete look before moving on to something else. -All the different styles that this book offers.
What I didn't like: -They didn't offer many different shades of women. -They didn't offer different sizes of women. I know bigger girls usually look for a way to slim their face and this book didn't offer that.
What I would change: -To offer all shades and shapes of women.
Will I pick up this book: I got this book from Edelweiss for an honest review. I will probably pick this book up, because it was very helpful for me, minus it's flaws.
This book is at three stars, because I don't feel like every female would find this book beneficial. I know that most of these looks would look great on anybody, but they could have offered more tricks for different kinds of women.
This was a great how-to manual for any age! The step-by-step photos are great and highlight where to put product and blend, which is great for people like me who rarely wear make-up and consistently need a refresher. Showing before photos of the models was also great. They go from people you wouldn't look twice at on the street to beauties, giving hope that we can come close if following instructions well.
I came to this book hoping to find some new interesting ideas on how to apply makeup. Instead what I got was more of the same old faces, with some extras that would only work on Halloween. The 'tips' aren't that great, and I've gotten more and better from 20 minutes on youtube. Save your money and invest in a trip to Sephora or MAC with a Beautybar appointment. You won't regret it.
My library just got this in, and I picked it up to review for my blog
Some of the general tips were useful, as were some of the early makeup looks, but many of the styles just aren't practical for the target audience (teen girls).
This book was a disappointment, it didn't list exact colors, or explain the more difficult techniques for how to create the make-up looks. It was mostly pictures with three steps that weren't in-depth enough for me to feel confidant trying out.
