The plot is simple but very well thought out: On her way home from work, Maria falls on her bike as she tries to evade a black cat in front of her on the path. The cat flees out in the traffic and is run over by a taxi, its head severed and flung into Maria's lap. Though bruised and startled from the event, that evening Maria goes on a date with her old classmate from school - but the date does not go as planned. But more importantly, why does Maria see the black cat everywhere? And who is behind the cruel murders happening around town?
I liked this story a lot - it's well paced, there's a good build of suspense and the twists are good. There's really only one thing ruining this story for me: The cat. I know the title is Kat (Cat) and it plays a pivotal role in the story - but I'd liked everything so much better without it. Especially because the story about Maria's relationship to her classmate, Henrik, makes for a great story on its own and the supernatural twist (which could still have been there) was just the icing on the cake.
