Once Upon A Time

I dreamed of growing up and being just like her.
I dreamed of having an adoring husband, two kids, and a beautiful home where my family would come together and enjoy all of our happy ever afters.

But Fate Had Other Plans

My road wasn’t easy, it was heartbreaking, and she was there, in the distance, silently supporting me.
When all the angst, all the pain, worked its way out, she was there too, but not how she’d always promised, she was there from an unbridgeable distance.

With distance and broken promises, I began to build a wall.

She would never be the mother she was, and I would not allow her to hinder the mother I am.

Life is nothing without love.
Life is nothing without hope.
Life is nothing without dreams.
And
Life is not lived fully until you understand the finality of… Goodbye.

I must have read a different book to everyone else as I found it contradictory and manipulative. Given it has been a long time since I have read the Love series. But Ashley was a bitch who tired to ruin Lucas business, and her lover boy (Robert) tried to help. So for all her cheating and shitty behaviour to basically be put down to her being sick does not wash. She was lacking as a mother and wife for years, tumour or not she was a cow. How quickly everyone forgave her and told Robert he was part of the family was sickening and disloyal, Robert May have loved Ashley but he was a prime scumbag, and I did not really care about what happened to Ashley, so this book to me was pointless and emotionally cringe.

Review by Lisa Kane

Expect tears to flow with this one! Anytime I get to read about London and Logan and Luke and Ava and Lucas and Tessa (my fav couple!) I feel like I'm spending time with old friends. Crazy old friends, but still characters that I've come to know and love.

Logan is in a world of pain, he's been hiding something from his family for over a year and inside, he's just bleeding. He wants to share with his sister, Ava, but she's just had another baby and he's been sworn to secrecy. London and Logan have been hiding how serious their relationship is-yet another secret.

"You're Logan Links, and you're my forever."

Ava and Luke are in a really good place. Ava just gave birth to baby Faith and together with Hope and Chance, their lives are crazy busy. Luke still wants more kids -this guy is a glutton for punishment!

"Ava," he turns my stool so I'm facing him. "I love you. You love me. Nothing has ever or will ever change that. It's just gonna grow."

But there's one person who isn't as involved in their lives as they would all like and that's going to be the root of this story. There are multiple POV's in this book, and each one adds a layer to all that is unfolding around them.

27 Truths About Their First Goodbye is heartbreakingly beautiful. A hated character finally shows that there are reasons for actions and for distancing yourself from your family. Desperate times call for desperate actions. But sometimes, no matter how hard the fight is, you can't always win.

"Dignity and grace, Ava...Lane. One thing I always tried to hold on to, no matter how hard things got. Dignity and grace. " "And style," I whisper.

The title isn't just a clever take on continuing this series but the 27 Truths actually exist. There is a reason for this title, (cue the sobbing) and each of those 27 reasons is beautiful and sad and so true. I love these characters, I don't think I will ever get tired reading about them.

"Heartstrings to angel wings, Ashley."

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
======================
I really like the author and when I received the Amazon recommendation I clicked immediately.
I had no idea it was the third book in the series and I took the train in motion, as we say here in Brazil.
But I kept reading and I liked it.
I already knew the characters from the previous books and it was good to revisit and find out how their lives are.

A beautifully written emotional story of life, love and loss.
❤️'d it - in fact, I cried my eyes out
My tissue box is empty and my eyes are puffy and now I must recover so my family doesn't think I'm crazy

description

Unlike the song - I don't know how anyone can ever get good at goodbyes

description

The only word to sum it up I keep coming back to is OVERLOAD
Overload of life, love and legacy (family), loss and emotions but ALL in a wonderfully good way!

I loved when Lucas was #adultinglikeaboss

I wanted to fly to #LinksLand

description

And while Ashley is all about grace and dignity, Tessa was the definition of class.

Loved the visual this quote makes ..

“Logan, if I get near that dumb stick right now, I’d yank it off and play whack-a-mole with your head, praying to God above it would be hard enough to knock you out so you’d shut up!”

description

at 40% all I could do was sing the song .. #plasticisnotreallyfantastic
LMAO
The humor helped to take the emotional edge off and lighten then mood until the next surge of emotions overtook my soul.

My heart ached for Brody when London made an emotional outburst that cut him deep 😢

When my kindle told me I only had 30 mins left, it took me another hour to read because I had to keep stopping to blow my damn nose and ATTEMPT to dry my eyes
#gutwrenching for sure

MJ Fields manages to get sooo much emotion and detail into her stories along with ALL the characters without having me in a tailspin keeping everything straight - I'm just in awe - there's just so much in her books and add that into the life lessons that can be learned or revisited - inspiration, entertaining and sexy as hell even when the topic is loss and death!

I finished this book a couple of days ago, but my feelings were so overwhelming, that I needed time to process what I had read before I could write this review. I want to start by saying, if you know me you know my love for MJ runs deep. I love every single one of her stories. When I heard she was writing this book, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it. I wasn't sure how I would process and most of all I wasn't sure my heart could handle it. This book is extremely personal for me. I'm not going to tell you why, but you should really prepare your heart. That being said, this book was everything I thought it would be and so much more.

27 TATFG is a touching story about loss. It's about learning how to live and grow. It's about love, it's about heartbreak, it's about moving on. So many truths come out of this book. I was touched and moved by the love shown from all these characters. I think the biggest word though that comes to mind when I think about this book is grace.

I can't begin to tell you how much this book means to me. There comes a time in life when you read a story and it just sticks with you, like glue. That's exactly what this book did. It's stuck to me now and forever. MJ's words, her emotions, her heart is in the book and this story. I couldn't have said it better myself if I had written these words. I felt this book. I lived with these characters through this book and this story. My heart was shattered and made whole again, all at the same time, just from one little book. Please read 27 Truths About Their First Goodbye. I promise you will love it.

27 Truths About Their First Goodbye by M.J. Fields is an emotional powerhouse of a read that will keep you engaged and enthralled until the very last word leaves the last page. Get your tissues handy for this story will be on the waterworks--I sobbed my way through all while laughing. It was easy to do when this group of people get together considering the group that got together- When you have the Links, Fields, Lane, or Hines holding get togethers, you know wild and wacky times are sure to follow and sure enough, they did.
This book definitely brings the FEELS, the love, passion, heartbreak , the chemistry and the connection that you feel between each couple featured--- what I loved was the mad amount of emotions that was evident in this story that featured previous couples and gave us a small glimpse of how they are doing. I loved the different POVs that was in " 27 Truths About Rheir 1st Goodbye" . With 6 different POVs, the story gathers so much depth with each passing page and chapter. This was such an amazing and beautifully written story that stayed with me after I read. Truly touching and emotional.

What a sweetly sad story. I cried so many times.

"Sometimes promises need to be broken before they break you." (My own personal quote just saying could have been a tagline)

This story is a story of loss, of family but most of all "Love". Logan has held on to a secret for almost a year and he is losing it. After the secret breaks him all is revealed. Actually two secrets are revealed! One happy, one not so much.
In "True" legacy form this blended family stand behind each other to help not one, not two but three people get through this beautiful tragedy.

Each character in this story grabs your heart and holds a piece of it . We catch up with the Links, Ross, Hines and Lane families as they help hold up three people who are about to lose someone that has loved each one and each one has loved. Ashley Links mother, wife and one of the most hated Legacy characters has kept a secret from her kids and her ex-husband Lucas for seven years. As a mother trying to sheild her childern from her illness she distanced herself in hopes of finding a cure. Having them dipise her rather than watch her deteriorate she was giving the ultimate sacrifice for her childern.
This sweetly sad story will make your emotions fly out of control. It's funny, hawt, and oh so sad. Things are said that make your heart drop. Some scenes make you feel warm as they are reminesant of The Love Series. I Hated her since Love You Anyway. But now I understand her.
Luke Lane made my swoon worthy character award this time around. Lucas is always swoon worthy! Shocking...Maddox...yes the "F*** You" song guy is the voice of reason. Brody is everything!

MJ warned her readers this was going to be emotional and boy did she deliver what she promised. This book is told by Logan and London, Ava and Luke, Lucas and Tessa, and a chapter from Ashley.
Logan is keeping two secrets and it's weighing too much on him. He finally breaks down and both secrets are out. Ashley is sick and is ready to leave the world. Once the secrets out they all go visit her. Ava now understands why Ashley did what she did in the 7 years she found out she has a brain tumor. Luke has a lot of words of wisdom he gives to Ava and he couldn't be a better husband to her. Lucas and Ashley have a one on one heart to heart talk and it had me crying. He held her and was holding her hand. There were also some good laughs and sexy scenes. One in particular was a memory from New Love with Lucas and Tessa. Very hot! You'll see Logan struggle, Ava accept, and Lucas forgive and understand. But one thing they all have is unconditional love for each other and the story ended very beautifully. This book brought me MANY tears but some good laughs too.

This is pretty much a redemption book for Ashley, which in my opinion she didn't deserve. You can't make a character such a bad guy who was so vindictive and secretive and then turn around and give them a death sentence and excuse their action.
Ashley pretty much lied, cheated and neglected her children all for her lover. So now you want us to believe all of her actions were because she found out she had cancer and was dying? How is that supposed to give her forgiveness when she wouldn't have even let her children know that she was sick in the first place. That if London hadn't confronted her, they would have probably never heard from her. Plus the man she ended up marrying was a snake and now all of a sudden he is the saint who has nursed their mother through her battle.
It's not a bad story line I just don't buy the redemption.

For me, this series, is kind of like the Love series. It's hard for me to read straight through and not because it's bad, but the exact opposite. The books are incredible, but the emotions are real.

The issues that are dealt with not only in this book, but in this series, I feel like we can all relate to on some level. It's the reason it makes them so emotional and so good.

While you're reading this book, make sure to keep a box of tissues handy, because you'll need them. You'll feel everything that these characters are going through and it's a roller coaster. It's a journey through their life, their losses and watching as they try to put themselves back together again.

I cannot wait to see what happens next.

MJ is such an amazing author and I love that this storyline continues with this family from Blue Valley. This is a multiple POV story as London and Logan begin the story from where we last left off. Logan is keeping secrets from his family and it is eating him alive. All our favorite characters are part of this story again and I still love Lucas and Tessa so much. I might have to reread the series again. LOVE it

I decided to end it, this Obsession that I've had with Blue Valley and its inhabitants for almost 2 weeks now. I've decided to end it with this book. Omg!!!
My heart cannot take anymore. My emotions are all over the place. My Gosh, what a phenomenal series of stories.
You'd think fiction was supposed to be just that but the reality behind the feeling and emotions were guy wrenchingly realistic.
I wanted to howl in tears and ugly cry for hours. I was literally pulling at my hair and screaming inside throughout all these stories and then to end with this book, an actual story of goodbye was like closing a chapter within me.
How an author can do all of this blows my mind. These people became part of me, my people. Their stories affected. Their heartache I felt. Their loss was mine. How crazy that. But how perfect. For 2 weeks I lived outside myself, I loved, I cried, I am different because of this. And wow. I'm thrilled.
@MJ Fields... You are amazing!!!

27 Truths About Their First Goodbye KU, 204 pgs, *** 2/2/23 Ashley & Family

3 stars. This was boring to me. Most of the book are written in thoughts of all the characters. It’s sad because Ava & Logan lose their mother but we knew that was coming from the last book. There was no excitement, a few sex scenes but it was a slow read and I had to keep making myself finish even though it is a very short book. I wasn’t into this one at all.

This book was so sad. I cried and yet it was beautiful too. We have all the favs here Logan, London, Ava, Luke, Lucas, Tessa, Ashley and Robert. There is a illness that won't be overcame...I won't say who but you can figure it out. We see the strong ones break and the weak ones gain strength. I love how that part of the book played out. This was just a great story. I enjoyed it so much.

For the love of God I didnt want to cry for her lol If you never read the Love Series you will not understand why but as A Mom its hard to not. All Sides of the Story are in this book. I love the humor I wish I could find one of these men who love like these men do their wives.

Logan and London Links I know its hard to keep track of this family tree and yes its close to inciest but its not lol When you grow up with people you know as family you love them. When you actually fall in love with them you try to hide it. These 2 tried and finally heartbreak led them back and now heartbreak will make them stronger. Logan trying to keep the biggest heartbreak from everyone is killing him. Till he snapped and he has to tell before he cracks. London so funny always puts everyone in their place, sense of humor and loves fiercely

Lucus and Tessa Links This man is gets hotter and hotter. The love of his kids , his family hes just so dam perfect from the Boy he was to the man he became. Tessa still funny its all about family.

Ava and Luke Lane all she seems to know is heartbreak shes had so many taken from her. Luke I love how much he loves. How he changed how he knows he deserves happiness. Even when its hard for him he still tries.

Ashley and Robert you know all the bad she did to Lucas to Logan and Ava but now you get the reasons and you might not like why but sometimes people push you away to fight not to give up. She might of done alot of wrong but in the end it dosnt matter. You forgive you let go of hurtful things the bad the ugly words.

"Thousands of little Logans are swimming free in my tummy right-"

"Sometimes Lies are Beautiful"

"Confusion seems to be my constant state. I'm torn, not knowing if I'm already failing as a husband."

"A chasity belt wouldnt have worked, not with neighbors like you. And let me remind you she just gave birth to Faith a month ago."

"No , I dont think you do know, Logan. You dont just take off, beat up a steering wheel...hide. From them, maybe."I toss my thumb over my shoulder at Lucas and Ava. "But never me. Do you understand?"

"This would be a great time for you to wake up,Logan."

"Doesnt matter how old he is, he will always be my little boy."

"She loves us anyway, Ava, shes our mom, like that damn book said, she'll love us forever."

"Dont even think about smothering him."

"Lucas Links, I fell in love with you because of the emotions you allowed to break free with me."

"Sorry, but the fact is, every girl at one time or another falls for a broken boy."

"I dont want to open my eyes. Its beautiful. Its new, but old. Its then. but now."

"I mean , you're supposed to look like a hairless cat or something?"

"Every step, every fall, every scar makes us stronger."

When you can't avoid the inevitable...the best way to deal with it is with dignity and grace.

For fans of the Legacy series this book is such a full circle moment for so many characters we have watched grow through the series....The pain they have experienced, the support they offer one another, the true love that is felt by every single one is flooring. Spoiler there is no villain in this book except life. There is no drama created out of malice only sadness dealt with that couldn't have been avoided. For the Legacy fans we see Logan go through an emotional state he can't hide behind his hat, we watch Ava use her pain as power to keep going and we watch helplessly as London and Luke try to get them through the first blow life has dealt them. One of the most heartbreaking parts for me in this book is Lucas.... Legacy fans KNOW what happened, know what went down, know what words and actions were exchanged. Saw the damage that lies and hurt caused the family unit and Ill be damned if Lucas didn't show us how amazing he is one again! His growth is the most beautiful thing in this series. He is the redemption story we all hoped he would be.

For my non-legacy fans.... If this is the first book you'e ever read by MJ. You are either REALLY confused or really emotional and you cannot go on. This book will do a number on you. It hits really close to home if you have ever experienced some of the situations that occurred.

MJ writes from her heart, from her life, from what she knows. As much as we cried and had meltdowns during the reading of this book she would have the same WRITING it. (Trust there is photo evidence on the on support page) I love this particular book a little extra not because its a continuation of our beloved characters but because it shows the way life can give and take happiness. It teaches us about grief, love, redemption, forgiveness and all the things that make life worth living. Love, babies, new beginnings, final goodbyes and the promises of tomorrow.

Thank you MJ for the hurt, the tears, the love, the sadness, the smiles, the redemptions and most of all ..........

Thank you for the Chicken Shit recipe <3

Wow another great read from M J Fields. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and although it is an extremely emotional book i have to admit there were no tears from me, maybe I was just being a bad ass the day I read it.
In this book you get the points of view of pretty much all the characters directly involved.
You can totally associate with all of them and there reactions to the fact they are going to lose someone they love and how they try to support their spouse through it are different but all totally plausible.
Logan and London have been keeping secrets for the past year 1 of them good 1 not so good and it is slowly tearing Logan apart, keeping something so big from his loved ones has him scared they'll end up hating him.
It all comes to head and eventually he can keep the secret no longer.
It was great to revisit all the couples in this book that i've read about previously, they have extremely strong sexually fused relationships as well as a lot of funny moments.
An extremely close knit family, that would do anything for those they love and protect them fiercely. Anybody would love to be a part of the bond they all share and through the great writing you feel like you are.
A great read that tugs on the heartstrings and shows there can be grace and dignity in death.

Man! These books get me every time and this one does not disappoint. It was ,most certainly, a emotional roller coaster. It’s been a while(probably since her last book) that I had a good cry fest. It was right out of the gates with this one too.

I adore these characters more with each new book. I love the way they are developed over time so we as readers are able to form a deeper attachment to them and develop a better understanding of them.
I love the different POVs. With 6 different POVs the story gathers so much depth with each passing chapter.

It is so fantastically gut wrenching. I love Logan and London along with Ava and Luke. But I love going back to the Og couple Lucas and Tessa mostly. They will always and forever be one of my favorites. I even found a love for Ashley in this book!

Logan is so tortured here. London is a absolute rock and greatly supportive wife. Ava, at first, seems on edge but definitely shows her strength. Luke Lane is just wow. I found myself wanting to revisit their stories immediately. Lucas becomes a even better version of himself. Tessa’s presence is very low key but also very appropriate.

This book showcases so many relatable emotions and circumstances. The ending just made me smile! I can’t wait to see what’s next for this family.

I have so many feels that I have no idea where to start with this book and it was an amazing read that brought out so many emotions in me, that at times it was just heart breaking to read. This story, told from multiple POV, tells the story of family and loss mixed in with some secrets that are both happy and sad. It showed how hard it is to keep secrets even when you think that you are doing what is best for those you love and even when they can be happy secrets. This was an emotional read returns us to some familiar characters and reminds me why I loved Ava, Luke, Logan, London and they rest of their intertwined families as they work through the grief and loss that takes place in this story.
Whether you have experienced loss as a sudden event or an unfortunate long and lingering one, this book will bring so many emotions and understandings to the surface as you watch these characters work through their grief while wanting to hold them yourself to help them through it. I had this book finished in one sitting and I would not recommend reading it where one would be uncomfortable crying in front of others. I highly recommend this book to others.

If I could give it 6 stars I would!

I lost my Mum to cancer, so I knew going into this book that it was going to be a difficult read for me and reading this book I felt destroyed all over again, leaving me raw and emotional. But that said it also highlighted what I came to accept and understand after a huge loss and that was that we need to focus on the good, the joy that the people in our lives whom we’ve lost, gave us.
Be present, live life to the full and don’t leave anything unsaid - no regrets.

The book - well aside from the fact MJ has done it once again and given us an amazing story, this book gives you more insight about Ashley and how judgmental we can be. One of my often said sayings is ASS-U-ME makes an ass out of you and me and boy did I feel it!

The way MJ writes is like being part of this family, the joy and heartache they feel, you feel too, this book as told by Logan & London, Ava & Luke, Lucas & Tessa, and Ashely. But don’t be mistaken there’s some laugh our loud and hot as hell sexy scenes too!

MJ thanks for keeping it real ❤️

Thanks in advance for the emotional warning at the beginning of this book, because I definitely needed it. There was some hardcore ugly crying happening throughout and it is one of those reads that stops you part way through and really makes you FEEL everything. It is not a book that I will easily forget, it stays with you just as these characters begin to feel like family. Each chapter gives us a different character insight.

I love that the whole clan gets a chance to speak their mind and have a voice throughout. London and Logan, Ava and Luke and even original Papa bear Lucas Links and Tessa. Those 27 Truths keep ripping my heart out and you can't help drawing parallels back to your own life when you read stories like this. They mark you and wreck you in the best possible way. This was beautiful from start to finish and I am so thankful that I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC and get a chance to read this amazing book and share once more in the lives of these amazing characters.

Talk about blubber fest 2019. Let's just say I ugly cried from the middle of chapter 23 to chapter 26, then the epilogue. I had to use paper towel as tissue because tissue was not big enough. When I started reading this it wasn't what I thought it would be. That's okay this was way better. This is about love, loss, pain, forgiveness and life. I have not read the Firsts Series. It would have helped, but I have read the Love, Wrapped, Burning Souls Series, The Truth About Love Series and Firsts Series it brings main characters from all these books. In my opinion this felt like a conclusion to all there characters, I'm not sure if it is or isn't. I could feel all the pain following through everyone especially Logan. It showed everyone grieves and processes differently. If you have read all these then you need to read 27 Truths About Their First Goodbye. If you have not read previous books, you could read this one and insert different people or characters. I believe you would feel the pain and love. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.

The story has a little bit of everything. You will laugh and you will cry but in the end, you will love just a little bit deeper. The story flowed well, and I was kept interested.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Her First Kiss (Firsts #1)
His First Crush (Firsts #2)
Their First Fall (Firsts, #3)

This book is an emotional journal about forgiveness, understanding, love, and family. This book also deals with loss and moving on after that loss. If brings together all the people in the series and all the emotions and suffering they are felling. This book will break you and then slowly put you back together.

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read. M. J. Fields grabs you and drags you into her stories where she deals with real life issues and pain. She teaches about forgiveness and love.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

“Every step, every fall, every scar makes us stronger”.... So many things to love about this book! It has it all - love, loss, pain, anger and confusion. I just adore MJ’s style of writing and characters, and what I’m especially loving about 27TATFG is that we already know and love these guys, we know they get what family means, and this makes it feel just so personal. Logan has been hiding important things from the ones he loves, sworn to secrecy which is killing him. He’s beating himself up physically and emotionally, it’s taking up too much energy to protect and keep the secret, and ultimately he knows he’s hurting people by keeping this secret. What unravels eventually makes them all closer and stronger - cementing the fact that family is there for all the moments. Set beautifully from 3 couples POV (Logan & London, Ava & Luke, Tess & Lucas) it has appearances by all the Links and Hines personalities.

Is there more than a 5 stars? Cause this one was way more! I am always happy when I get to read about Logan and London, and this made me VERY happy. I fell in love with all of these characters instantly when I read Her First Kiss. Then, I found out it was part of an extended series and I drove head first into the LRAH families. I'm still treading water. 27 Truths About Their First Goodbye is a heartwarming conclusion to one of the characters. The way that Logan and Ava surprised Ash by being there in her final days is something that every mother wants. Ash didn't think she deserved it, but love between a mother and her children is unconditional. I loved the way they were concerned that Lucas was going to have a hard time losing Ashley 'again'. I didnt cry, but my heart ached for everyone. I am very proud to have had the chance to read and review this book. It is definitely one that needs to be read! I look forward to more from MJ! And now, I'm going to travel to Links Land, again!! 💜

Saying goodbye is never easy but having family there makes the burden a little less heavy to carry.

Logan and London have been holding onto a secret and it’s finally time to tell the family. Ava has been through so much it’s hard to imagine she can handle more. But with Luke by her side, she has his strength to hold her up. Lucas and Tessa have gone through hell and back. Can Lucas forgive his hurt and help his kids move forward?

This book opens up so many wounds. It is heartbreaking and cathartic. I cried through more pages than I can count. The writing was amazing. This is a book I will reread over and over again. I loved seeing the group again. Being there for one another is what life is about.

I loved that you read through so many character’s points of view. Being able to see their innermost thoughts. Watching them come to terms and press on was inspiring.

This is a great book and one I HIGHLY recommend.

I’ve been reading MJ for awhile now. I started with the Steel men. Followed by Norfolk and The Caldwell’s. I avoided the Legacy Series because I wasn’t sure I could handle it. Then 27 Truths about Love was coming out. So I devoured the Legacy Series and fell in love. This past year I lost someone who was very important to me. So I knew going into this book was going to be difficult. Reading this book devastated me beyond anything. I felt the pain of losing them all over again. It left me raw and emotional.

But it was through this book days later that I have found some peace in my loss. This book helped me grieve, it has given me an idea on things I can do to help myself.

MJ has taught me many lessons through her books. The ones I’m focusing on right are #Bethegood, #Bepresent #Loveneverdies.

So MJ, thank your such beautiful words that have helped heal me a little more than I was before this book. Even if I had to break a little more before, I’m feeling stronger than yesterday!
