Melanie Lynne Hauser also writes historical fiction under the pen name Melanie Benajamin.

Hailing from the Hoosier state (where she grew up in the shadow of the Indianapolis 500 racetrack), Melanie Lynne Hauser is a late bloomer who is just now figuring out what she wants to be when she grows up. Having tried her hand at telemarketing, candy striping for a nursing home (where it was suggested she not return, after she mistook the men's plastic urinals for water bottles and put ice in them) and acting under her maiden name, Melanie Miller (Most Academy Award-Worthy Performance: The title role, complete with bear costume, in the gut-wrenching exploration of good touch/bad touch entitled "What's the Matter, Little Bear?"), she put everything on hold in order to marry, have two children, and spend her time making sure they didn't stick their fingers in electrical sockets. (Both the husband, and the children.)

However, the children grew up. At an age when many women throw themselves back into their careers after raising their children, Melanie looked around and realized she never had one in the first place. After deciding she had no real marketable skills, she turned to the one thing she did know: Books. A bookworm from the time she was able to form words, Melanie realized that what she really wanted to do was write books. So she wrote one. It stank. She buried it in her backyard, next to the compost heap. She wrote another book. It didn't stink quite so much; in fact it got her not one, but two literary agents. Still, nobody wanted to publish it. She wrote another book. It stank the least of all, and led her to her current, wonderful literary agent, but still it went unpublished. Then she wrote CONFESSIONS OF SUPER MOM. So far, nobody has said that it stinks. In fact, so many people liked it that the sequel, SUPER MOM SAVES THE WORLD was also published. She has also contributed an essay to the anthology, IT'S A BOY! (Women Writers on Raising Sons. And finally, at long last, Melanie has a career. (And old men in nursing homes everywhere breathe a huge sigh of relief.)

This is a great, light-hearted read. It was perfect for reading while sitting and nursing, easy to pick up and put down. The plot is pretty obvious, but the pop-culture references are hilarious.

In this sequel to Confessions Of A Super Mom, Birdie is back and she finds her superpowers are developing into more than she can handle. Her kids are still teenagers you can tell because anything she does they are embarrassed by. She is finally revealing her relationship with Carl just as her ex Dr. Dan has thoughts to rekindle their marriage. All that and cleaning supply mascots like Mr. Clean are coming to life and helping her fight her new nemesis.

I loved this book just as I loved the first book. The celebrity appearances like Ryan Seacrest and the scrubbing bubbles were hilarious. Just like Confessions Of A Super Mom, I can see this as a movie, with Drew Barrymore as Birdie. She is sweet, a little klutzy, and so relatable. The way the characters work through their problems internally also gives you the chance to work out your feelings about the things the characters and their decisions.

I am sad I finished the series. I hope maybe there will be more books in the future but I kinda doubt it.

Still, one of my favorite authors whether she goes by Hauser or Benjamin. Really hope one-day Supermom comes back or maybe I get her powers. Lord knows my place needs it.

The whole time while reading this book, a gripping realization was nagging at me, crawling in my skin, up to my brain screaming "THIS BOOK IS NOT MEANT FOR YOU TO READ!!" I'm a twenty-three year old man reading a book intended for women, particularly mothers. And not the mention the author establishes this in the back of the book that she writes Women's fiction. Period. But if that's the case then why... for you see: Not once did I get queasy from the overpopulation of romance, I rather in fact though the parts were..cute(did I just say that?), nor too irritated from the somewhat scarcity of fun superhero elements to collectively launch this book back on the library shelf it came from before I saw it to its end. And because of this, I walked away with a meaning that I feel can accompany anybody--male or female; parent or no parent-- and that is to fly, never be afraid to spread your wings away from the past to embrace the future-- no matter how scary it may seem.

A fun series of books.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Birdie Lee of Astro Park, Kansas, is like every divorced mom raising two teenagers, except for her secret life as Super Mom. After an accident involving household cleaners, she was transformed into a squirt-bottle-wielding superhero with the ability to sense when children are in danger. But the good she does isn't always appreciated since her last adventure cost many residents their jobs. So when Super Mom detects something wrong with the stadium the town is building for its Little League team, people want her to stay away. Super Mom's job is never easy, especially now as she gets engaged and her ex-husband decides they should get back together, and a bucket-clad villain appears.
Fighting some negative public opinion from her last adventure, Birdie Lee/Super Mom must investigate the shady scheme behind the building of a new state-of-the-art Little League stadium, while also planning a wedding with Carl and figuring out her conflicting feelings for her ex-husband.
Birdie grows up a little, but not that much. She is still an emotional mess, determined to ruin the good thing she has with Carl. In addition, the whole stadium plot is less than engaging, and often had me zoning out.
I found this book somewhat dull and predictable. I got tired of the product placement, and I felt that she was writing with a movie in mind, especially with the mention of Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell. I don't think I'll read any future ones in the series
I enjoy silly comedy and being a mom with REALLY trying children I just find these Super Mom books crazy and silly. They are the kind of books you look forward to when you've had a trying day and need a laugh.
It was great to re-visit the characters I came to love in the first book, I hope there is another in the series coming out.
Totally unrealistic. Can never happen. That said, it's a fun and campy take on female superheroes.
The protagonist is so wonderfully flawed and the whole basis for the story so hilarious, I can't help but read these books. It lost a star for sex and swearing. Fun read.
Crazy concept a woman becomes a Super Hero after an accident with cleaning chemicals. Likeable characters even though the plot is a little out there.
This was a cheesy summer read. I loved all the references to various pop culture. It was a quick read and that is what I needed on the summer break.
