He’s distrustful and domineering, yet Olivia has fallen under his spell. “Abide by the contract that I’m going to present to you. You have no right to refuse.” With these words, the devilish Rocco Mondelli, a wealthy man from Milan, threatened Olivia. Rocco thinks Olivia is a temptress who goes after wealthy men and that she is the one who deceived his grandfather. Olivia is outraged that Rocco would believe her capable of such behavior…yet she can’t suppress her response to Rocco’s gaze. How can he affect her so when he clearly thinks so little of her?
I really love the art😍😍😍✨ so pleasing to my eyes 😍 it has pretend lover trope which I love but I have trouble with the notion that love can conquer social anxiety😫
I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review!
#3 in my Harlequin Manga party 2019 (part 1 I am guessing as the year just started). I was in love with this cover, and while the blurb worried me, I had read enough Harlequin to know that even that blurb could turn into something amazing. So here I go!
I had a laugh that the guy seriously thought the girl was his mistress. That is the first thing that hits your head? Not that she may be someone he just cares about? Someone who is family? Does she need to be a prostitute or a temptress? I guess I am happy that, unlike so many of the Harlequin Manga, this one starts with the POV of the male character. They don't often get much attention in the stories, only occasionally here and there, so it is quite refreshing to see the story start with his.
And then we switch to a combined Olivia/Rocco POV. And the drama starts. He first seduces her, practically strips her of her clothes, and then confronts her. Um, something tells me this isn't the right kind of way to go about things. But hey, it is Harlequin. My suspicions on Giovanni and Olivia's relationship was correct! She was someone he cares about, the daughter of a woman he loved but both couldn't have a relationship (which made me tear up).
Wow, Rocco. Dick much? Jealous that your grandpappie had someone else he likes? Pissed that you cannot have all your shares in the company? I felt so sorry for Olivia, no one should be forced to do that. You know she ran away from it all because it was too much. You are really doing this all because you are a sad sad man who apparently can't do things on his own but needs to drag down others. :( Bleh.
*snorts* Oh hey, he has 4 friends and they have some fancysmancy name. Gee, what does this remind me off. *thinks back to the Billionaire series she read a few months ago* Ah yes, that one.
*giggles*OH that girl. Naughty, naughty, but I had quite a laugh that she dared to do that in public just to see his reactions to it.
"It's alright. You're not alone. You have me." Awww, and that is what I come for. She is having panic attacks and he is there to help her. Awwww. *swoons* He also helps her out with other things. I am melting. See, this is what I was hoping for. And yes, I am now crying. That ending was just perfect!!!! I loved that secret episode that was added.
The art was just absolutely gorgeous. I love the style, and I do need more of this artist's art in my life.
All in all, a bit of a bumpy ride, but dang it was worth it. The second half was just amazing, and yes, I cried many times. Definitely would recommend this one!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Harlequin/SB Creative as the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Book title : The Italian's Deal for I Do: a Harlequin Manga
Author : Jennifer Hayward ; Illustrator : Shion Hanyu
Release Date : 3 January 2019
Rocco Mondelli inherited Mondelli House from his deceased uncle. He later found out that in his deathbed, his uncle said that he would have to take care of somebody named Olivia Fitzgerald, the photo model who went missing for a year. Even though Rocco did not like Olivia in the beginning, he would have to deal with her. He needed her hand because the board committee wanted somebody who was family oriented to handle the company's matters. A win-win solution, a fake engagement was on their way. Little that they knew, they started to fall for each other.
I love this story for the reasons I do not know why. I guess it is prolly because the plot is evoking. I love seeing how Rocco and Olivia try hard to resist their attraction to one and another. I admire Olivia's determination in maintaining her phobia among the crowd. The end of the story is emotionally touching especially when I see how Rocco finally learns to express his feelings towards Olivia and how Olivia maintains herself to stand still. The conflict is portrayed and illustrated beautifully as the artist is able to capture it and put it into the manga-style. It is just a perfect one to read.
Shion Hanyu's art is on another level as always, its so fresh and engaging even when the plot leaves much to be desired.
Rocco and his sister owe their upbringing to their grandfather who dies within the first few pages. Ambition drives Rocco only to be halted by his grandfather's will and a surprise. Enter Olivia, a supermodel who hid from the model scene with the help of the grandfather's help.
Of course, harlequin and its misunderstanding trope plays strong here, and Rocco believes her to be his grandfather's mistress. While the misunderstanding gets cleared up, Rocco is cold and blackmails her into a fake marriage. He forces her back into the model limelight, with her social anxiety and that's when his hardened heart starts to soften. He protects Olivia at every turn and decides to set her free. Just shy of that emotion called love, he learns of a secret about his dad and Olivia comes running back to him and they get married for real and he achieves his ambitions too.
If only the bar for guys were not set so low by harlequin, we might actually appreciate decent men and want more out of our men, but oh well.
Read this for a rigid and ruthless hero initially heroine has a lot going on story is more focused on hero than heroine heroine is supported by the hero the art is absolutely divine misunderstanding trope is played and done with in a few pages blackmail trope for fake marriage is set loose hero has some powerful friends like him
Only the first pages were in colour in my review copy, a pity, yet they had a dreamlike quality and paster colours that I really liked.
The story is an old-fashioned romance where a man, cold-hearted by his father's abandonment, tries to honour his grandfather's memory by protecting his assets.
What he finds is a beautiful woman he thinks took advantage of an old, rich man. There's a stark contrast between his first encoutners with her, acting cruel and insensitive, and how he ends up being irrevocably in love, having learned a bittersweet lesson in life. There's as couple of surprises in the end that added a bit extra to everything.
Money and luxury and fame compete against emotion, love, happiness and truth.
It's a pretty romance, with soft art with light strokes, and a damsel in distress who finds an enemy who ten turns into a protective knight in shining armor. Sweet!
Love springs between a bruised and shattered super model and a hardened young business man.
Rocco decides to use Olivia to get control of his grandfather's company. Olivia agrees to his plan because she is in debt to Rocco's family. Along the way as the couple get to know each other and love and attraction give birth to something strong between the couple.
This kind of coerced marriage trope is quite a regular one in Harlequin romance stories but the artwork brings the story to life in such a lovely way and this makes stories quite distinctive. I enjoyed the different graphics that brought the story to life.

I wish this was better. It wasn't spectacular but it wasn't bad either. Pick this up if you find the plot interesting but you're not missing out if you give this one a miss. The art was nice but a bit stiff and lifeless. This contains the fake dating'fake engaged trope :) But it also contains some mild incest (half-aunt/nephew) do with that information as you wish.
Thank you to Netgalley, Harlequin Manga, and Harlequin / SB Creative for providing me with a free e-arc. I'm sorry I didn't like this more.
Not worth the money. Story screamed toxic the entire time
Art was ok but the story really screamed controlling man and it had a happy ending but slightly judging the main character for loving such a hateful man towards her
