A frozen corpse. A missing medallion. Who was willing to kill over a small-town festival medallion hunt?
Shady Lake is hosting their annual Below Zero Festival and this year, the medallion hunt has a $500 cash prize along with it. Tessa isn’t sure she will enter, especially because every year the medallion is found by Gerald Pinkerton. Everyone knows he cheats, but no one can ever prove it.
But Gerald winds up dead at the bottom of the sled hill and the festival medallion is missing from where it was hidden. When an acquaintance of Tessa is accused, Tessa is determined to clear his name. It would be a lot easier if she hadn’t been talked into helping with the snow sculpture contest. As a blizzard rolls in, Tessa is desperate to solve the murder.
Will Tessa find the killer? Or will she end up frozen stiff like Gerald Pinkerton?
Read Winter Festival Murder and hunt down the medallion (and a killer) today.
I enjoy this series, but I agree with what I saw on some other reviews. It is super repetitive. For example, she explains her dating dynamics constantly and even said how pizza was made in this town twice in this book.
What's a winter festival in a cozy mystery without a good body to stumble over, right? Although at least Tessa wasn't who found it, she still got more involved than Max would've liked her to due to Mandy's boyfriend being accused. Max and Tessa actually had words at one point, and I gotta say, I was on Max's side when he called Tessa immature. She's got a heart that won't stop helping people and is an overall nice person, (I'd want to be her friend for sure) but at times, I've thought she acted more like a high school kid, so he nailed it. Maybe that gave her an epiphany though because they later seemed to be getting along better and (dare I say) closer. I've always been #TeamMax even though I like Clark's character. Although I have a feeling he's got someone in mind and won't be upset if these two really end up together!
The showdown was pretty awesome and exciting. There's something about a snowstorm and hiding from a perp in a building in the middle of it that has just the right cozy creep factor (yep it's a thing, much calmer than a thriller creep factor and way more doable for me!) when a perp gets in, so I enjoyed it a lot. I wanted to make sure I read this while it was still technically winter lol, but I'll hopefully get to the next book sooner than I did this one.
This is the first time reading this author and the first in this series I have read. This main character is Tessa who has moved back home after losing her husband. She is working at the family B&B and sticking her nose into a murder investigation after she found the body and her best friend's boyfriend is looking like he might have done it. She ends up almost losing her life as she finally figures out who did it. I enjoyed this book very much.
I’m starting to like some of the characters more, but the writing is very amateurish. Lots of repetitive descriptions and mistakes. The mystery isn’t very deep, and some of the details in the world-building aren’t very realistic. However, the author does address some of the annoyances as part of the character development, such as Tessa’s immaturity. It would be worth continuing on in the series to see how the character changes as the story goes on.
I read the Christmas mystery before this one so the characters were already familiar. Plot is somewhat predictable but twists and turns kept me reading. I didn’t appreciate the numerous repeated descriptions of friends. I did enjoy getting to know Tessa a little better.
Around page 122 there is an error Mandy brings Tessa home. Dad says lets go upstairs and get some Water to Tessa. Tells Tank to drive Mandy home But in the next few sentences Tessa is drunk signing people in Then when she gets upstairs dad acts like he didn't know she's drunk
I did like the plot. I did like the characters mostly. There were parts of the story that was repeated and that was annoying. Also why does all the heroines have to eat a lot of food and it’s never healthy at all hmm just wondering
The story itself was pretty good. However, there were numerous instances where there were missing words in sentences and occassionally sentences with double words in them. Those instances distracted from the reading experience.
It is the Below Zero festival and things are going great. But then a body is found and a friend's boyfriend is suspected of the murder A good story line
Another enjoyable book in this series. If present/past tense errors and extra/missing words bother you, you may want to avoid this book unless it gets a corrected revision. I consider it a good cozy mystery in spite of its grammatical shortcomings.
I am Truly Enjoying this Series. It makes me feel like I'm there in Minnesota. Fabulous Writing. I would Love in a town like Shady Lake. I'm on Book4 now. Great Reading.
I keep enjoying this series more and more! Fun series, with a fun setting and fun characters! The touch of romance is satisfying and adds to the story. Recommend reading in order.
