An entertaining re-telling of the classic tale of the Three Little Pigs. Shortcake and I give this one thumbs-up. We've read it at a half-dozen or so times at bedtime so far.

THE THREE LITTLE SUPERPIGS: ONCE UPON A TIME is an adorable and fun retelling of the classic story of the three little pigs. These pigs loved superheroes and had so much superhero stuff that their mother sent them out on their own to get their own houses. They head to Fairyland and build their houses- two build fast so they can get back to playing and one builds slower and stronger with brick while the other two play. Soon, the big, bad wolf comes huffing and puffing at their houses.

This twist on the original study follows it somewhat closely but with some added fun elements of being superheroes and about Fairyland (the wolf has a reputation). In the end, everyone cheers for the three little Superpigs!

What I loved: The images leap off the page with an almost three-dimensional element. There is a lot to look at and find in each scene with the wolf lurking and other fairytale characters (particularly Little Red Riding Hood) around. The pigs in superhero costumes are also adorable. Young children will enjoy the fast pace of the story and brightly and vibrantly colored images that fill each page. The story is a classic and a fun one to read in this new book.

Final verdict: This charming story adds some fun details on to the classic tale of the three little pigs. These Superpigs are sure to delight toddlers through early elementary readers who will love the vivid illustrations and fun plotline.

Summary:
This is a book based on the classic story of the three little pigs, except it has a superhero component. The story starts with the three pigs talking about how they dreamed of becoming superheroes. In the beginning, the pigs are moving out of their home. They end up finding their way to fairyland. They meet a new friend their first night there who is Little Red Riding Hood. Their new friend warns them of the Big Bad Wolf. The pigs spend the next morning building their houses out of straw, sticks, and bricks. The big bad wolf shows up to their houses and blows down two of the pig’s houses. The final pig’s house which was made of bricks could not be blown down. The wolf ends up climbing onto the roof and trying to sneak down the chimney. The pigs set up a boiling pot of water underneath the wolf. He ends up jumping out of the pot into a net. The story ends with the wolf heading off to prison and the three pigs gain some appreciation as superpigs.
Evaluation:
This isn’t my favorite fairytale retelling. It is very similar to the original story. The book is marketed as if the pigs are going to have superpowers, but really, it’s the same exact story. The only difference is that the pigs wear costumes and have a desire to become superheroes, but it’s not really explored or discussed. I was kind of disappointed.
Teaching Point:
With this book, I would teach a comparing and contrasting lesson with the original Three Little Pigs story. There would be a lot more similarities than differences which could be good to discuss. This way there isn’t so much to sift through, and can help teach the basic concepts of comparing and contrasting a text.

The Three Little Super Pigs, by Claire Evans, is a fractured fairy tale that builds upon the story The Three Little Superpigs, written by the same author. In this fantasy tale, readers hear an alternate take on The Three Little Pigs. In fairyland, where these three pigs have settled among fairy tale friends such as Little Red, Hansel and Gretel and Goldilocks and her friends, the three little pigs have already settled the score against the Big Bad Wolf, sending him to prison and establishing themselves as superheroes among their fairyland friends. They begin to fight crime, keeping Fairyland safe and living a life of celebrity. However, one day, bricks begin to go missing all over fairland, from paths to houses. No one has any idea what could be happening. The Superpigs soon discover that the Big Bad Wolf has escaped his confinement, and they run to their houses to plan what to do. Unfortunately, as they set out to enact their plan, they discover he has tricked them again, building a tall wall of bricks around their houses, trapping them! Now, it is up to the smart pigs to outfox him again, and send him back to jail. With a bit of magic and a high tech plan, they trick the wolf once more and save Fairyland.

Building on the success of the earlier title, The Three Little Pigs: Superpigs, this picture book follows the three gits as they build new homes in Fairyland. The brothers have long loved superheroes and see themselves as maybe becoming just that someday. Once they settle in Fairyland, they hear all sorts of stories about a wolf who is causing havoc in the land. (Check out the illustrations that show the Big Bad Wolf lurking around in corners and the page that shows the different sized-grannies who are left in their undies since he stole their garments. Tee-hee!) As in the original Three Little Pigs story, the wolf destroys the brothers' houses that have been built with sticks and straw, but the brick house easily withstands his assault. Even when he decides to mount the roof in a surprise attack, the pigs have something waiting for him, and he is foiled once again. I don't know that I needed this new version of the classic story, but it might rekindle interest in the original one and modernize that one. because of its superhero focus.

{My thoughts} – A fun book based off the beloved three little pigs story most children learn in kindergarten. The cover of the book is nicely illustrated and the text within the pages go hand and hand.

If you know the original story you know that the three little pigs each build a house. They build a house in an attempt to hide from the big bad wolf. However, eventually the wold finds ways to get to them. This book follows that same premise.

It also has it’s own spin on the classic story. It helps children to see if you work together you can accomplish anything. That when you trying to out smart a big bad wolf three heads thinking up ideas are better then one. It helps to show that teamwork really is a good thing.

I recommend this book for anyone that enjoys the original story. I think it will make a nice addition to any child’s library as it has become a favorite of my two year old daughter.

The Three Little Pigs dreamed of becoming superpigs, left their home to seek their fortunes, and arrived in Fairyland where they promptly discovered that the Big Bad Wolf had stolen grandmas' clothes, kidnapped Mary's lamb, and stolen sheep's clothing. After building their 3 homes, the Wolf blew the straw and stick homes down but was carted off to prison after climbing down the chimney of the brick house. The illustrations are fun with lots of characters in Fairyland including Little Red Riding Hood, the three blind mice, the gingerbread man, and Pinocchio. The pig who built the brick house caught the Big Bad Wolf with a net and a pan of boiling water, but really the first two pigs did nothing but panic and they acquired the title of Superpig #1 and #2 along with their more industrious brother. The illustrations are colorful, humorous, and extremely detailed which make this title a joy to read. Young children will love finding the wolf hidden in all the scenes.

The Three Little Pigs love superheroes and want to become their own superheroes. They decide to go on a trip to Fairyland. Little Red Riding Hood warns the pigs that the Big Bad Wolf is terrorizing Fairyland. The pigs build their houses to try and stop the Big Bad Wolf from coming in. Their houses are tested when the Big Bad Wolf comes and tries to blow their houses down. Finally, the pigs outsmart the Big Bad Wolf.
I love this book. I think it is a great way to combine a bunch of fairy tales into one story. I think that kids would love it and it really opens their imagination to all of their favorite stories living in the same world. I think the illustrations are also really great for younger readers.
I would definitely have this book in my classroom and read it to my classes. I think that kids would respond really well to it and I think that classes could do a creative writing assignment with it where they combine their favorite stories.

The three pigs who dream of being superheroes are back and this time they battle the villainous wolf. The classic tale of outsmarting the huffing, puffing creature opens with Mama Pig kicking her sons out of the house because it has become too cluttered with all of their superhero paraphernalia. After wandering for hours they happen upon Fairyland and decide to build some houses. Little Red Riding Hood warns them about the Big Bad Wolf, who has been terrorizing Fairyland, but her warning falls on deaf ears…at least for two of the pigs. All of the elements of the traditional tale are here, but the superhero twist makes it feel fresh. Elementary readers will love the colorful digitally done illustrations and classroom teachers can use this to promote fractured fairy tales.

This adorable twist to the traditional The Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf is a thriller for young kids. It has colorful illustrations full of movement and expression. This picture book allows for enjoyment when reading over and over again. As the three little pigs venture into the world to find a place to build their new homes their desire to become superheroes aids in their need to protect themselves from the Big Bad Wolf. This is a very adorable tale of the three little pigs as superheroes. These illustration details are wonderful for allowing students to think about story retelling. (I especially love the mom wearing curlers on her head at the beginning of the book and details of the wolf's escapades in the middle of the story.) I will be buying every one of Claire Evans fairy tale books for my two elementary collections!

Too busy. Loved the premise but the book lacks any super power. Yes, I know bad guys go to jail but this is a children's book, right? "The pigs waved good-bye to the silly old Wolf as he was carted off the prison." Perhaps an ending more positive like the Pigs thwarted the bad Wolf and all is well might have been a better ending. Skip this!

I wanted to really like this book because I love superheroes and I adore fairy tales but it fell short. It was the same story with very minor changes. Nothing surprising.

But the pictures are fantastic!

I mean... I guess? It's just a retelling of the Three Little Pigs. With almost nothing different. What's the point of them being Superpigs? It literally does nothing to the story. Cute I guess, but meh...

The kids enjoyed this one, but I thought the "super" theme fell short. I was hoping for some super-powers or more superhero-ish kinds of ideas. Seemed like a basic retelling of the story with a little bit more. Great illustrations and it was a hit with kinders.

Such a cute book! How the original story is incorporated into the story and how there are many different things about it like the pigs are super heroes and they save the land from a big bad wolf. Would recommend this book to anyone who has any young ones or has nieces and nephews.

This fractured fairy tale reveals the origins and back story of how The Three Little Superpigs became the heroes and protectors of Fairyland, and their first encounter with the Big Bad Wolf, Fairyland's most-wanted criminal.

I'm really disappointed with the first two pigs. After previous encounters with the wolf... in this same series, we still have not learned that the wolf can handle straw and wood!!??

We loved "The Three Little Superpigs". This one, however, fell a bit flat. It is almost like a look back at how their stories started, but isn't as full or as funny as the first.
