If you want to charm a llama, you need this book! This llama-themed touch-and-feel book is perfect for young children, with a funny rhyme that explains how to correctly charm a llama!Children will love watching the colour change as they interact with the two-way sequins on every spread.
"How to Charm a Llama (two-way sequin board book)" by Rosie Greening, illustrated by Stuart Lynch, is a book of poetry- juvenile poetry, but still poetry. This book has not won any awards, but it is written for children ages three and up. This book is relatively self-explanatory. It was written for the fun and humor of if you ever find yourself needing to charm a llama, now you know how. I rated this book four out of five stars because what I loved about this book was that it was inclusive of boy llamas as well as girl llamas. By including both genders in this book, it does not have to be specifically for either one. Stereotypically sequins are for little girls, and boys do not usually like them, but that does not matter for this book. The language of how playful it is, is what makes children laugh- each example of how to charm a llama- rhymes. An example of this from the book is, "If you want to charm a llama, then forget the chocolate treats. Big bunches of bananas are the only thing she eats!" (Greening). Using alliteration in describing the bananas is a great way to annunciate the "b" phonic for children. On each page, there is a patch that allows the child to move the sequins, and it always corresponds to what the llama likes or does not like. Related to the above example, the part of this page that is sequins is the bushel of bananas. I would use this book with my children to make them laugh and allow them to feel other textures that they may not have felt before- like sequins. Having the ability to touch it would make children really happy, and who doesn't love a cute llama?
Charming interactive children's book featuring llama illustrations and two-way sequin windows. The rhyming text is adorable to read and correlate well with their illustrations. Some of the sequin portions are a bit hard to switch to their opposite sides bit otherwise entertaining.
E loves this one. It's sparkly, it's textured, it's pretty much her 2.5 year old idea of perfection. I love it because it's short, has a pleasant rhythm, and keeps her attention on my lap. Win-win.
I did not enjoy this one nearly as much as the author’s other similar titles. Just didn’t seem quite as clever though my granddaughter (20m) seemed to like it just fine.
The rhyming text is charming but the sequins feel superfluous. Would have preferred a touch and feel book that is more like the "Never Touch a Shark" series.
This book is filled with sequin pictures on each page that they can touch. It is full of fun rhyming ways to charm a llama. It is very interactive and colorful.
CJ's (10 m.o.) absolute favourite book (has been since about 5 m.o. when we got it); goes for this one first 9/10 times; gets visibly and audibly excited when the first page gets read or recited!
