I was a bit out of my league on this one, wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. I don't know top fashion, jewelry, not a big fan of sex, murder, and drugs, but it kept my attention, which helps the commuting time pass... I wouldn't read it again, but I enjoyed it once!
This was a good story but had too much graphic sex - I skip those pages and had to skip quite a few pages! It would have been better if I had identified the emeralds as from the Windsor household earlier, but it has made me interested in finding out more about those gems.
This story of extraordinary emeralds starts in New York and moves to Paris. A gemologist and jewellery designer is engaged to place bids on a ring for auction, to keep the millionaire behind her private. All kinds of shady people are up to no good. We learn that if you are told to stay in the Ritz with a large bank draft and a ring, you do not opt for a cheaper apartment some friend of a friend owns. (That was just stupid of her.) I was also surprised that, having seen evidence that some people are after the ring, the heroine strolls around the streets for a few days without a worry. Couldn't she be kidnapped and held to ransom? But not much else would occur in the story if she stayed in her room, so the author had to get her moving. Too much adult activity kept occurring rather gratuitously. Otherwise this is a good romantic suspense read. I read a paperback. This is an unbiased review.
It did hold my interest but I didn’t really connect with the heroine and other characters. The jewelry process fascinated me. Also the ornate description of furniture and architecture painted a nice backdrop. It’s a one time read for me. P.s. there’s detailed sex scenes - so if you’re a prude, best to skip pages or read another book.
I think I made it halfway through this book before throwing in the towel. The problem I encountered was that the jewelry plotline was interesting but every chapter was a ridiculous sex scene -- on and on... I get the idea already! Sheesh. More story, less sex please.
