Shreya Basu is a kind of politician India has hardly ever witnessed and that too from a political party which has been suffering from an existential crisis for last few years. With an impeccable beauty and excellent oratory skill, Shreya Basu’s shot to fame is no less than a fairy tale. But now she wishes to contest election with a powerful incumbent government at their own bastion. But little did she know about the dirty inlands of this murky game of politics. And, in this topsy-turvy ride to power, she came across the enigmatic Hector Fernandez. Obscured by thousands of unanswered questions, Hector Fernandez is haunted by the ghosts of his past. And, to put them to rest, he wants one single thing. Vengeance. And, when Shreya’s seamless ambition to acquire power meets Hector’s hate-filled stigma of retribution, it wreaks war. Unmasking the gloomy secrets all the way from the manipulative political lobbyists to the leaden secrets of media-mafia, from the shady by-lanes of Mumbai to the precarious land of Balochistan – the duo challenges the power-barons inviting the threats they barely anticipated to come their way. But even the duo’s infallible tactics may not be enough to save their goals, or themselves, from succumbing to their nemesis.

What do you think of those books which give you the end in the very starting and then make everything in flashbacks, ending the book with the lines that were offered in the first or second chapter? I love such books. They make me be like ‘I know now’ in the very end and that is my new favourite style. Sankha Ghosh, the author of today’s book, painted in beautifully.
In the start I had some prediction and they did come true but in so different way that I think it won’t be right if I say that the book is predictable. The twists and turns, the way the characters are drawn together, the change in the characters with time and human psychology is beautifully written that I surely am picking next books by the author.

Review : The cover of the book is good and eye catching. It is the first thing that attracts you to the book. The book is short and gripping. Two parallel story run in the book which make this book more amazing. The plotline tells us the current scenario of Indian politics. The plot of the book is quite intriguing. It tells us about the role of media in elections. The book revolves around two main characters, Shreya Basu and Hector Fernandez. The book is fast paced and I liked it’s pace. The book is very well written and the plotline is unique. The story starts with the murder of a SSC candidate who is trying to expose a scam. Language is easy. Narration is smooth. Characters are well developed. Each and every character plays an important role in the story. The most fascinating thing about the book is that the author has written such a gripping story in a short 140 page book. The book kept me curious about what will happen next. If you love books full of suspense and thrillers esp. political thriller, then this book is for you. Read this book as this is the perfect time ( pre-election time).

""How she came be so confident even at this point of time when her time to defeat can be counted in minutes""

The cover of the book is look good and eye catching. There are only few books where we assume about protagonist and after some story another character becomes primary protagonist. (Person favorite)

Story starts with a murder of SSC candidate who is trying to expose scam.(junaid). His brother wants Justice for it.
Shreya basu, a good looking brave women contest as CM of upcoming election. Here comes the beautiful part how media works and how she become overnight sensation in society. Media did every little thing to make her win.

There are two parallel stories going in this book. One is junaid and other is sheya basu. Kudos to author for writing such a great short book. The way both story end in last chapter is more than awesome. Books talk about all the realistic things happens in India.

The characters are well developed and described. Every character has its own role to play. I believe the development can be made more interesting. The supporting character can br made more descriptive.

The plot of the story is awesome. In just 140 pages author nail down everything that requires for a book. Another great part about book is no extra sugercoting or extra action that makes books boring somehow.

The thing I didn't liked is female protagonist learning so much of political background in so much of less time. Even though last chapter is awesome but, can be decribed in little details.

In a nutshell, a must read to know dirty side of politics, scams etc.

The story revolves around two main characters, Shreya Basu and Hector Fernandez. Shreya Basu is not sure how she lands up in standing for elections as a Chief Minister for a party suffering from existential crises. However, she is one of a kind. With exceptional oratory skills, educational qualifications and exemplary looks, she doesn’t shy from speaking her mind.

Hector is a victim of politics and corruption. After suffering from the hands of dishonest people, he is not a person to keep quiet anymore and is ready to bring the culprits to justice.

Indian Politics: The Central Theme

The story revolves around the quest for Shreya Basu to become the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra and succeed the current corrupt one. Although this was the main storyline, the author introduces various other characters and stories connected with it, for everything to come together in the end.

The history of characters at some point seems irrelevant to the story. However, despite that, the book is fast paced and a page turner.

I liked the fact that the author introduced social media in so many aspects through out the story. It was interesting to read a political drama and the influence of social media in it.

Characters

It was interesting to see character development in the book. Although the story intends to be plot driven, but for me it was definitely character driven. There were a few characters introduced in the later part of the book, playing key roles, which was an interesting addition.

I appreciated the character descriptions in the book, although I wish it were not as intense for parts where it was not related to the plot.

Things I Disliked

I wish the book were longer and the conclusion not so abrupt. The ending seemed too easy and too far fetched. Also, I wish that the author did not provide an in depth background on the characters where it did not play a key role in the plot line.

It also took me a while to understand who Hector really was, but I believe that confusion could just be me!

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed the book as it was different theme for me to read. It is a book with good and easy writing and if you like political dramas, or wish to pick up a short read, this is the book for you.

The Sun Shines Down is short and gripping read. The story successfully covers the current political gimmicks in India while also touching different aspects like corruption, terrorism and importance of media in democracy.

The story is based in the city of Mumbai and runs in two parallel tracks which are meticulously merged in the last chapter. The two protagonists of the story are Shreya Basu and Hector Fernandez.

Shreya Basu was a talented woman with both beauty and brains. She joins a political party and soon is set to contest for Chief Minister in the upcoming elections. Here we get to see the importance of Media. The political party for which Shreya is contesting appoints Naresh Rajput, a media baron, to work on creating a strong image of Shreya. He designes her whole campaign and helps them reach out to majority so that she wins. Will she win?
Hector Fernandez has been through a lot. From being framed for terrorism to being forced into accepting it. His mother and brother are also victims of this corrupt system. Will he be able to get revenge? Will he be able to expose the corrupt system?

Two different people, fighting their own different battles. It’s fascinating to read how beautifully the author has woven such a gripping story in merely 140 pages. Apart from these two characters the rest characters are also very well built. The language is simple, the narrations are engrossing.

Definitely loved this political thriller.

A page turner!

India is a country where power is a ruthless ambition and money a terrible master which drives the people toward exploiting any means to achieve their gains. Lives are put on the stake, dignity is kept aside, and what reigns is madness for the power!

Civil Services Examinations are considered to be the toughest examinations in India. Lakhs of candidates vie every year to reserve their seat in the coveted spaces of bureaucracy. But what lingers around it is the scam that engulfs the dreams of youth and throttle them to death. Junaid is a young man who succumbs to this master snake which gulps down several other lives, one by one, demonically. His mother and brother, too, died at the merciless hands of the corrupt system. And what follows the trail is the disruption and destruction of those in power!

The Sun Shines Down is a gripping thriller that entwines the political gimmicks and scam scenario of India. Set in the sparkling city of Mumbai, the story kicks off and takes you on the ride which is smooth. The author has explored human relationships with Junaid and his family. He has evidently chartered a territory fraught with danger by building a plot around the controversies prevalent in the Indian subcontinent. And to top it, this political thriller is fast-paced and gives you enough gist within 140 pages.

With good use of language and direct narration, the author weaves a book which is quick and swift. There is no chance you get bored reading it. However, the loophole lies in the fact that there is not enough description. The characters lack the strength of influence because they aren't sketched properly. Shreya is brought to be a charming barbie doll with no powerful aura given that she is Chief Minister. But perhaps, this is the reality behind the women politicians in our country. Their ambition is fulfilled only when they pass through the tracks of lust. Also, the whole presentation was too fast to grasp things. The story just hopped from one point to another without a proper halt. I personally felt that this book needed more to fill it. It was the one which could have done really well with a tightened plotline, more research, and a detailed narrative.

For a quick thrilling read, the book could be picked up by the newbies! A book to spend your weekend in a flash or bide your time at travel.

The story starts with Junaid, a SSC candidate being murdered for trying to expose a scam involving students to pay a huge sum of money in exchange of a direct entry without giving the exams. Junaid's brother starts seeking justice but to no avail. Blinded by loss and injustice, Faiz starts seeking justice for his brother by deciding to tear down the political system involved in these scams.

Parallel to this story, a level-headed, and young woman, Shreya Basu rises to power and contests election to be the next Maharashtrian Chief Minister. Together Faiz and Shreya brings down the current government.

The Sun Shines Down is a political thriller that tries to highlight the dirty side of politics but fails miserably. From a bad plot to bad writing style, this book really disappointed me. After reading the book I understood that the author tried hard to unmask what goes on in politics but it could be exucutes in a proper manner.

There are a number of things wrong with this book. First, the description of female characters. All female characters in the book have 'milky white complexion' or 'pale skin' it seems. Using fair complexion as a sexual innuendo did not appeal me at all. Second, the descriptions of the sexual acts. They are really ill-described. Third, the poorly sketched characters. Shreya and Faiz are the protagonists of this story but did not feel like it. They lacked the essence of a well-defined character. Fourth, the plot itself. I have read a lot of books so far that have political exploits as the main theme. It would have better if the story had some mystery to it. But the plot was too plain and lacked originality.

The story begins with the chapter of a person named Junaid Ahmed. He was preparing for the of State Service Commission. He and his brother Faiz worked in a garage. Afzal Shaikh was a local MLA of the area. One day Junaid received random call to pay one lakh rupees if he wanted higher rank. And following that destiny twisted for him. Junaid got killed and his brother Faiz was arrested and tortured by police inspector as he was framed for illegal activities.

The next chapter is about Shreya Basu. She studied in London and returned back to India after his father’s demise. Destiny played role with her fate. She joined politics here and in a while she became very influential public figure and soon declared as new chief minister candidate.

Read the book to unfold further plot.

The book is definitely a suspense thriller. Nicely written unique and different plot. Crime and politics are well portrayed. Plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns. I loved the first half of the part but second part was slightly boring compared to first one for me. Overall it’s a page turner. I loved the cover and especially that picture of a face hiding inside the font, that’s amazing. The book holds your attention and keeps you curious all the time. Climax is really unpredictable. The story moves at a faster pace. I was expecting a lengthy plot as I think some parts could have described more elaborately. But overall it’s a good one and definitely recommended to suspense- thriller lovers.

- A political story that will hold fancy of the people at this crucial election time.
- Gives a glimpse of the sorry state of politics, its inner workings and the way Indian political drama unfolds
- The story holds potential
- Would appreciate if more focus was put on the characterization of Shreya , Junaid , Nikhil or Hector in the scheme of the situations
- Editing at a few places for smoothening the language is needed
- The cover design is too vague (its a metro skyline ) and could have been better

Two stories run parallel in this thriller. The first deals with rapid rise of Shreya Basu through the rungs of Indian politics. The second storyline is more intriguing and tells the tale of Hector Fernandez. At one point of the story Fernandez was bruised, battered & close to mental breakdown. Yet, he was handed a final chance to change his life. He grabbed it with both hands & turned into a primary protagonist in the plot.

I liked the fact that there was no over the top action scenes or unrealistic episodes of heroes fighting through hordes of evil villains. Instead, the author focused more on schemes & clever plans to solve problems in the plot. Things like organized social protests against government corruption or recent political upheavals add further realism to the plot.

The distinct influence of Sydney Sheldon is visible on writing style. This is especially evident in the treatment given to the main female protagonist.

I found the rise to power of Shreya Basu a little abrupt. It's not easy for a young unknown to rise so quickly in Indian politics without familial backup or solid student politics background. A little more detailed rise to power (like done in Ashwin Sanghi's Chanakya's Chant) would've added more strength to her storyline. I'm not a big fan of over usage of Italics along with normal text (had the same problem with Alex Grecian's The Yard).

Overall I was content reading this book because it summed everything in around 140 pages. The writing style, characters, story line, pace everything was good.
I liked the concept of 2 stories going in the same direction and meets in the end. We can get glimpse of today's scenario in this book. Corruption, scam, ugly politics all are brought together in this book. Both the protagonists are portrayed in a good manner. But I was not completely happy reading it there was something more that I needed to keep me and my attention glued to it. A young boy is murdered for the civil examination and the plot shown around it is amazing. Shreya on the other hand is very confident, independent.
How both this story merge towards the end for that grab up your copy.

Review- I have started loving books that have parallel stories and this book is one of them.
The story of Junaid and Shreya. Shreya is an upcoming politican whereas Junaid is an SSC candidate who is murdered.
The book is short just 140 pages but the plot is well developed and fast paced. The narration and plot both are to the point.
Politics is dirty and the author has proved it.
The story was easy to understand, good language and great characters.
The only thing it lacked is a bit description.

Book Title: The Sun Shines Down
Author: Sankha Ghosh
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book ' The Sun Shines Down ' is very dramatic and intriguing.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is an abstract image of a person and a city silhouette with scrapers. The image depicts a dark genre which also compliments the title.

Plot:
' Politics has always been dirty. Down the ages, politics has never been anything other than a stinking dirty game. The big difference is where once relatively decent people resorted to political dirty tricks so they could survive long enough to fight for and prevail with their ideologies - right or wrong - now politicians are dirty from the core. They are in it for the money and the power.'

The book has two stories running in parallel, where one happens to be about a young woman Shreya Basu who contests in the election and wins by the extreme grace of media and some people. Whereas, the second story is about an ill-fated brother, Faiz, whose brother succumbs to the punishment laid by the police for a crime that he didn't commit. Faiz, to fight against the system changes his real identity and becomes Hector Fernandez.

To climb the stairs using politics and playing politics in the field of politics comes with a very high price. How did Shreya and Hector win over the game of politics? Did they win or lose?

What I like:
1. Two stories which are complicated that are chosen to be narrated  in parallel is the highlight
2. The dark and dirty truths of politics that are at any level is the bottom line of the book.
3. A woman being the protagonist and in a powerful character is interesting.
4. There are some places in the story where bold literature is used.
5. Though the story is predictable and mystery-free, it seemed interesting.
6. The transformation of narration of the story switching between many characters is not an easy job but the attempt the author made is very nice.

What I didn't like:
1. I always have a complaint when the physical features of a character in a story are judgmental.  Why should a female protagonist be fair and fairy-like? As a reader, it's a big speed breaker to lose interest in reading further. This is not the first time I point out this.
2. Editing errors ruined the beauty of the book.
3. Explanations of almost every character are it important or unimportant felt unwanted. Spoon feeding is sometimes not necessary. Leaving the character and their nature must be left to the reader's imagination.

Characters:
The characters in the story are likable and not so likable. But, Faiz's character is written very well.

Narration:
A good narration if found. But it can also be a hiccup for some readers as the switching between two stories may lead to confusion.

Language & Grammar:
Simple colloquial language is used but grammatical errors also found their place in the story.

My Final Verdict:
A very good attempt and a nice read.

The Sun shines down is a fast paced, political thriller presents a true picture of current political situation in the country as well as role of media in king making. Shreya Basu, an astounding beauty with brains, is picked by a political party to contest as chief minister candidate for the upcoming election. The media baron, Naresh Rajput, paints a rosy picture about her and makes her an overnight sensation in political circle. The whole campaign is meticulously designed to make her win the majority.
Faiz Ahmed aka Hector Fernandez was framed in a false case of terrorism and was tortured to plead guilty till he was miraculously saved from the prison and was trained for a mission. His circumstances made him from a simple boy to a man who has to avenge his brother's death in the hands of crook MLA of his area.
The two plots run in parallel and are weaved together beautifully in the last chapter.
Does Shreya Basu make it to the Mantralaya? Does Faiz able to expose the Corrupt people who are involved in scams and murder of many state services aspirants? What happens to Naresh Rajput and many others like him?
The book is a real page turner. The writer has managed to write an efficacious political thriller in fewer words which is commendable.
The characters are very eloquently and thoughtfully portrayed. Hector's character I liked the most. Though in the first chapter, I thought Junaid to be the protagonist. Even a few characters introduced in the last chapters were effectively weaved in the story.
The subplots are well developed; I, especially, liked the part where Hector cons the UGBC head.
The book has a beautiful cover representing intense Skyline of Mumbai and an abstract image of a man that to my mind represents Hector aka Faiz. The title, too, sounds meaningful and goes with the theme of the book.
The language is lucid and effective, thus makes it an easy read.
I feel that few more pages could have added to the beauty of this book. Sudden rise of Shreya Basu, from no one to state head sounds little unrealistic.
The book carries a message for a common man as well. The problem is deep rooted in the system. The problem lay is us too. We vote them knowing them to be culprit. We bowed down before them as they ask money to get what is righteously ours.We flock to listen to them delivering speeches of lies and clap and hoot despite knowing none of them would ever be realised anyway. Why do we do that?

I received this book as a part of review program by https://rakhijayashankar.blogspot.in/ in exchange of an honest review

Book Name -: The Sun Shines Down
Writer - Sankha Ghosh
Edition - Paperback

Summary -: This book is divided into two parallel stories. In one of the story the book describe the story of Junaid's murder who was a SSC candidate & also a good person. When he was murdered & he was working on to expose a scam. Now his only brother wants justice for him.
And the second story is about a female protagonist 'Shreya Basu' who's a beautiful lady and stood for the CM position in the upcoming election's. This book also shows the reality of our media, where the media is doing everything they can so that she could win the elections.

Things I Liked -:
1. This book I one of the very 1st book I read in which you can read 2 parallel stories and both of which are eye opener.
2. The author kept the book short only 140 pages but even after that he have described the characters in a good way. So that the readers can easily understand the back story of the characters & their personalities.
3. It's not only a fictional book but also it shows the untold truth of today's modern day media & the inside world of poilitics.
4. Although it's a fictional book but it's written in a way that every upcoming chapter will make you more excited about what's going to happen next.

Things I Didn't Like -:
1. While keeping the book short, author mixed up many things which can make the reader's confuse about what's happening in the story and where the storyline is going.
2. Although the writing style is good but still there are many errors in this edition but I hope if the publishers publish a new edition they'll edit those errors.

Verdict -: Overall it's a good book. As it's different in it's own way & also it gives us many details of the hidden political world. And the author tried to book a Thriller like fictional book which make it even more interesting. So if you're finding a book like this you can definitely check this out.

Rating -: 3.5 🌟

India is a country where power has always dominated and money has made even the master turn to slaves. Lives are put on the stake, dignity is kept aside, and what reigns is madness for the power!
♎♎♎♎♎♎♎♎♎♎♎♎♎
Chartered Accountant, MBBS, Civil Services Examinations are considered to be the toughest examinations in India. Lakhs of candidates try their luck every year to reserve their seat in the coveted colleges or universitied. But what lingers around it is that engulfs which kills the dreams of youth. Junaid is a young man who succumbs to this master snake which gulps down several other lives, one by one, demonically. Shreya basu is a kind of politician India has hardly ever witnessed and that too from a political party which has been suffering from an existential crisis for last 5 yrs. Unmasking the gloomy secrets all the way from the manipulative political lobbyists to the leaden secrets of media-mafia, from the shady by lanes of mumbai to the precarious land of balochistan-the duo challenges the power-barons inviting the threats they barely anticipated to come their way.
☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕
I found the writing crisp and clear. The book is a quick read with only 139 pages. The political drama has been defined well with humour adds as an added advantage. The story was not dragged and readers were hooked till end.
Set in the sparkling city of Mumbai, the story kicks off and takes you on the ride which is smooth. The author has explored human relationships with Junaid and his family. One line which I liked from the book was -
"HOW SHE CAN BE SO CONFIDENT EVEN AT THIS POINT OF TIME WHEN HER TIME TO DEFEAT CAN BE COUNTED IN MINUTES"
My Rating - 3.5/5

Book Name - The Sun Shines Down
Author Name - Sankha Ghosh
Published by - Hawakal publishers

This one's a political thriller with some really dramatic excerpts. Shreya Basu can easily attributed as a beauty with brains. She takes a challenge to contest election for a powerful position. Meanwhile she meets Hector Fernandez. This story is about her challenges and obstacles that they'll face in the journey

Dramatical and addictive storyline made this an interesting read. The storyline is good, blurb is also very interesting but one thing could have been better and that was the narration. Writing style could have been more interesting and better but I really appreciate the sincere efforts of author for making it a good book. It was interesting indeed but the progressing chapters seemed a little bit boring
Characterization is really very amazing and precise. There are many characters but all are well developed making it even better. Cover is perfect for this kind of book. It has many twists and turns, seems filmy but at times it also seems too much of drama is added in the story which wasn't necessary. The story shapes up in a really very Fabulous manner but narration could have been more better to make it even more interesting. Author has been successful in carrying out the genre perfectly. In initial chapters it was unputdownable

Thumbs up -
1) Cover is designed well.
2) Storyline is interesting.
3) Perfectly framed story for a political thriller.
4) Many twists and turns making it even more interesting

Thumbs down -
1) Narration could have been better.
2) Could have been less dramatised to make the political scenario more realistic to the reader

Political thrillers are the latest trend in India literature. The increased demand of political thrillers as well as the increased attempt by the authors could be the result of the boom in political awareness among the youth. One more feather to the political thriller wing is Sun Shines Down.

The book takes off with the serial murders of Civil Service Aspirants, which is a cover up for a scam. Meanwhile readers get to see Sreya Basu being the Chief Ministerial candidate and how they assort to PR services to build an image. A parallel tale of Faiz whose brother is murdered in the Civil Service scam develops. These to parallel plots leads the book.

Author has let the worms out of the political horse trade and the other decaying rotten side of the system. It is not a hidden fact that advertisement agencies are used in image building by all the political parties. The new surge of taglines and other ads are witness to the same. The characters have a lot of possibilities which could have been made use of. Their craft is good yet it leaves space for more development. The second innings of the book starts in Balochistan. Author's attempt in connecting the geo-political scenario there is commendable. Nonetheless the shift from India to Balochistan is sharp edged and hence creates a confusion initially. Further it becomes clear that it was a deliberate attempt to create suspense but needed a rework on that note.

The Sun Shines Down

Author- Sankha Ghosh
Genre - Political Thriller
Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The book starts with Junaid who is a hard working boy, who not only supports his family of a single mother and younger brother by working in a garage but also harbors a huge passion to excel the civil service exams and get his family out of the current state of poverty and into a brighter future , while Junais is busy with his exam preparation

There is Shreya Basu, a London return, management grad student and a stunning Bengali beauty. She is ambitious and passionate and just made the face of the Red party to contest elections in Maharashtra.

This is all well , when Junaid’s mutilated body is found on the railway tracks and the rumors of the conspiracy of murder of civil services aspirants, there are a few more deaths and one unjust arrest and convection, that of his younger brother

In steps Kripal the head of federal intelligence department and the results are totally unexpected.
From Balochistan to Mumbai, the one man Hector who silently moves things and gets unspoken justice, grab a copy to know how the path of these two people meet and what are the consequences

❤️ the story is well thought of
❤️ love the character of Hector
❤️ the script is a bit filmy
❤️ it is a medium paced short read
💔 new characters were added uptill the very end
💔 the connectivity is a bit disjointed
💔 A bit more detailing would have give the story more character

The Sun shines down by Sankha Ghosh is a political story that portraits our society and how we common people vote the wrong ones on the basis of their false promises.

The story starts with the narration of how Faiz Ahmed lost his Father Salem and his brother Junaid. Faiz elder brother was killed in the Exam Scam that led to not only his brother's death but of alot of students appearing for the States Commission exam. After Faiz's brother's death, Faiz's innocence was misused and illegal charges of bombing and being a terrorist was put up on him since he was weak and was taken away from his mother who too was weak. While Faiz was in jail, shreya basu was on every newspaper, radio channel and on the lime light.

Shreya Basu was set on being the chief minister, while on one side the story tells us about how the marketing during election takes place and how the politicians lure us into false promises and takes our votes, the other side of the story reveals of how an innocent is turned into a spy to improve the democracy of India.
As Albert Einstein once said, the world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.

Author Sankha Ghosh really has a good grip on his language. The story is short of 139 pages but yet a thrilling one. People who are interested in political stuffs should definitely grab a copy of this book since it gives us a background as to how the marketing takes place during elections.

The Sun Shines Down

It's a political thriller. This story shows the ugliest side of the politics, gives us the idea of how election campaigns are conducted and also how the backward classes people are suffered in the name of so called politics. The story starts with the murder a SSC aspiring candidate, who tried to expose the business undergoing behind it. And how his whole family suffered for taking up a stand against it. And also how his brother tried to seek revenge for all the atrocities.

On the other hand a gorgeous and London return lady joins politics and which changes the whole political system and creates a new scenario. How she pledges to the people and her outspoken behaviour and the elegant she possess influences a lot of mass media and in general people. Then she learns the ugly side of the politics, which she regrets joining now but urge to win the election.

This story captures a lot of interest like politics as it's ugliest manner, suffering of the backward classes of people, influencing one through charismatic quality, mass media power, scams and political business. The author has scripted down it beautifully. But one must have to go slow while reading it otherwise you can miss some point and it will turn to be a complex read. Definitely recommend to those who want to read about the Indian politics and also want to know all about the scams happening behind competitive exams.

A political saga like no other, this book is much more than what it seems it is. First things first, the cover is pretty simple but if you take a close look at it, you would know what it actually speaks. The ongoing crisis faced by the nation is depicted wonderfully in the cover. Done in bright colours, it would surely capture your attention to the fullest. Coming to the writing style, well, it needs a lot of polishing.

The narration skills were really good but the writing style and errors take it one notch down than it already is, making it sound like a fairytale, yes, but forced one at that. I loved how descriptive the book is and how the author has managed to put across his thoughts in action. This thriller is an edge of the seat one which will keep your nails biting and you sweating as you keep on reading it.

As for the cons of the book, the ending and the book in its whole essence couldve been much more tighter than it already is. I took a long time to read it and probably half the credit for that would go to the errors I found in the book. Having said that, the author has a really good potential which could be used further. Looking forward to reading more books from him, this was a 3 on 5 for me.

My Review-
⏩The story revolves around Junaid and Shreya. Junaid who works in a garage and was preparing for the State Service Commmission but was killed mysteriously. Shreya Basu is the new Chief Minister of the state. She belongs to the Basu family of Kolkata. She studied from London and after her father's death came back to India. And she was offered to contest from the Red Party by Malik which was not at a good position. .
⏩The book also showcases how power is not static and the people who misuse power will have to understand that it is temporary and can bring their doom.
⏩The book is quite fast paced.
⏩The characters have a lot of shades and depth.
⏩The characters have a common background which is Bombay and politics.
⏩The book is well-written and well-edited. I did not feel like there was anything extra to be cut down short.
⏩The only problem that I faced is that there are a lot of characters in the book and I would have loved to read the story from the protagonist's viewpoint instead it gave a third person's perspective.
⏩The plot is well-formed.
⏩The author makes you believe that politics is dirty.
⏩I highly recommend the book.

India’s civil services examination is said to be the one of the most toughest of exam in the world. The novel is set in Mumbai the ‘city of dreams’. The story starts with the murder of a staff selection commission candidate ‘Junaid Ahmed’. Lives in a single room chawl in Mumbai with his Mother and younger brother.

Faiz Ahmed is a brother of Janaid. Who is trying to find his murderers. He was arrested against false allegations. Later, he was saved and came with the new identity as ‘Hector Fernandez’. Shreya Basu is a politician who wants to be a chief minister of Maharashtra.

The story is engaging. The writing style is excellent. It is a very well captivating story. The narration is totally engaging. All the characters are very well written. Especially the character of Faiz. The story is in third person’s perspective. Every scene is described very amazingly. It has fascinating plot and is a very well written book. The language of this book is very simple and easy.

I loved the concept of this book. It clearly presents the current political state of Indian politics. The story is fresh and captivating. Overall I really enjoyed the book. The topic is so relatable these days.

📚The Sun Shines Down By Sankha Ghosh
Shreya Basu is a kind of politician India has hardly ever witnessed and that too from a political party which has been suffering from an existential crisis for last few years. With an impeccable beauty and excellent oratory skill, Shreya Basu gets into several unknown challenges.
.
📚My Take: To be very frank, I have read alot of books having a political backdrop, I really enjoyed this too. The book starts with a fast paced plot & the speed is constantly maintained. Shreya Basu is shown in such a way that till the end of the book you will certainly fall in love with this character. The cover is artistic but it could have been more better. The title is mind blowing & completely goes with the plot & content of the book.📚
.
📚The writing is amazing, it's very easy & not very deep but the narration goes very dull at times. The overall development pf characters is appreciated. It's a very short & a gripping read & I do recommend it. Give it a go.📚
There is no extra stuff in the book which is really good.
