Since her senior year of high school, Efa has hated returning to her hometown for the holidays. She loves her family but the celebrations always bring up memories she'd rather forget. When her boss and sister plan a writing assignment for her to do twelve dates for the countdown to Christmas, she decides to turn it on them and have a little fun. Can Assignment: Christmas be pulled off, or will Efa finally find love and happiness once again?
I would've given this book another star, however there were so many typos/editorial mistakes that I couldn't in good conscience give it more. Those mistakes took me completely out of the story. I thought the plot line was good, if not slightly overused. I even had a few laughs.
This was a mostly sad book. The FMC Efa was not a happy person. I never connected with her. There was no romance between her and Hunter and I was SHOCKED by how things went. I would have been less surprised if her and date 11 would have ran off to Vegas to get married. I didn't read this anywhere, but there is a trigger warning for some women that should be mentioned. Its not sexual assault or abuse, but you don't want to go into read a funny Christmas story just to be hit with sad memories with no warning. I expected a cute story with a Christmas theme, I got a sad story with an HEA I have no idea how happened with a couple cute moments. The cute moments were told, not shown for the most part. I did love her relationship with het dad. I also liked the premise behind the story. There is just so much sad and so many disgruntled moments.
I liked the his story. An easy going plot about Efa who is sent on 12 Christmas dates and adds her own twist. The character growth of Efa was good, but felt Hunter’s could have been stronger. I felt the pace was also a bit slow. However, the plot itself was good and here was plenty the author could have done to add in some extra details and improved the pace. The bit where Harold flew down appeared an odd thing for him to do. Having two Chapter tilts annoyed me, especially as the first was placed differently. The couple of typos made me have to re-read the sentence. If the story had been that bit stronger, I would never have noticed them. It’s a good book, don’t get me wrong and if you like your Romances a bit slower, this is for you.
A holiday-themed read perfect for any occasion. It was a quick read and I found myself unable to put it down (I read it in one night). I loved the laughs and my heart went out to the characters when the author revealed Efa’s hidden secret. Benham captured the spirit of a small town Christmas and Efa’s family’s level of love, support, and fun holiday antics round out the story perfectly. The standout feature for me though was how I grew to love so many of the supporting characters. They were well-developed and uniquely complex, adding their own flare to the story. A must-read for those that enjoy second chance romances, holiday themes, or Hallmark style stories.
Efa is given an writing assignment by her boss. She is to leave for two weeks before Christmas and go to her hometown on a Christmas Assignment-go out with 12 dates with single men from her hometown over the two week prior to Christmas. Story’s objective is to find out if people date differently over the time prior to Christmas compared to rest of year. Efa has to face some memories from high school and why she left her hometown and has tried to avoid it ever since. Turns out to be great homecoming and a reunion with old flame. Life can be complicated at times. Loved the ending
I found myself wanting to read some wholesome Christmas love books. I've had this one in my TBR pile for a while so I thought, why not? And I'm glad that I did. It was super cute and a unique idea compared to most Christmas love stories.
If you get in the mood for some good old fashioned Christmas romance I would recommend this book for sure!
A novel that makes you laugh and feel good! I very much enjoyed the unique theme of the main character having to write an article on whether or not the Christmas season changes the way people act on a date..... even if the date is being sabotaged. The characters were very likable and the book had great flow. All around a great read!
This book was so much fun to read. I enjoyed of the characters and of their antics. The descriptions of Efa's attire and sabotage plans had me laughing out loud. Can't wait to read something else by this author.
This story was perfect. It made me laugh, cry and sigh with contentment. The descriptions of the sights and sounds made me feel as though I was there with Ef and her family.
If you love Hallmark movies, you'll love this story about forgiveness and trying to move beyond the past. The characters are relatable and real. I highly recommend it!
