This was extremely helpful when I switched careers. It gives a brief overview of the common topics encountered when working in an IT service desk position. There is not a lot of detail, but it does get you started and give you some ideas of what areas you may want to advance in.

Good if you know nothing about technology or you want ground floor training so you don’t miss any concepts. Perfect if you need to know how to talk tech without actually handling tech.

In preparing for my CompTIA ITF exam, to restart/renew certifications I've not worked with since college back in 2003, this is the fourth time I have read through this book. Each time, I pick up a few more special gems of understanding, and each time, my clarity is better.

I home schooled myself, including making my own tests, and I highly recommend to anyone trying to learn this material by themselves to do the same thing. I make lists, notes, and write down things I feel will be important as I read through. I also type out the tests at the end of each chapter. I save these files twice, each under a different file name. In the second file, I go through deleting the answers or replacing key words with blank spaces. Then I use that second file as my own test, take it, and check my answers against the first file.

The bottom line is, as with everything, do NOT allow yourself to get discouraged. There is A LOT of information in this book, especially for those who are not as adept with computers as I already was when I started reading it, but even the author realizes it is a lot of information. Take your time, read, read, and read, and you can do this!

I also want to note that the author has sprinkled little jokes throughout the entire book to lighten the mood and try to cheer the students, and I love the dedication to all those who were or might one day have been teachers but are now working as IT. <3

A handful of typos and mistakes. A lot of concepts left unelaborated but you can only do so much in an introductory textbook like this. Overall pretty useful as an exam study guide.
