Rate this book
“When a New Puppy Joins His Home, Harold Learns About Love”

It's hard to be a good dog, but Harold, the golden retriever, really tries.

Then the Dad brings home Prince, a silly little puppy that the Dad says is smart and brave.

Prince! “Smart and brave!” Harold can hardly believe his ears! And, even worse, when Prince does a doggy-doo right in the house, the Dad blames Harold!

Harold thinks Prince is a poopy little puppy. How is he going to live with him in his house?

Kids with baby brothers and sisters will sympathize with Harold.

This book is laugh-out-loud funny for kids and parents. Perfect for early readers and the Common Core.

Harold is the family dog. Beloved, treasured, snuck treats when possible, but he's not the only fur kid on the block anymore. Enter, Prince...his new...best friend? Not exactly. Introducing a puppy into a family has it's challenges, but they can certainly be unique if there is already another dog in the mix. You have to make sure they BOTH feel loved, no one feels overlooked, and jealousy doesn't reign supreme, or you can be in for many "surprises" along the way. Harold learns the hard way at first and just when he's beginning to think he'll forever be in the doghouse, things take a turn for the better, and love, even from his scruffy little sidekick, prevails. An entertaining, yet engaging story for young readers and those simply young at heart!

Harold is just living his ‘happy-go-lucky’ life as a golden retriever when Dad brings home a new puppy named Prince. Harold has to adjust to all the changes that come along with Prince, which includes taking the blame for the things Prince does. This includes a huge No No: Pooping on the floor! Prince seemingly takes over Harold’s space and gets all of the attention unless Harold is getting fussed at.

There are parallels to this story and the feelings a child may experience when a new sibling arrives. **Spoiler alert** There will be tension until mutual feelings occur as they do at the end of this story.

This story is for children ages 6-8 years old. There are pictures at the beginning of each chapter to help tell the story. If you know kids who like dogs, or may have a new sibling arriving, then this would be the book for them.

I enjoyed this children’s book and liked Harold. If I had kids, I would most likely get them this book. Harold is very likeable and I can see (and hope) Crowe writes more adventures starring him.

Many thanks to the author for sending me a copy in exchange for a review.

This is a really cute story told through the amusing perspective of Harold, the top dog of the house, who when the story begins is perplexed and also a little put off by the arrival of a new puppy in his family, especially because he cannot seem to get the humans of the house to understand him.

How he reacts to/deals with this new unexpected entrant into his family forms the rest of the story.

This will make for a great read for kids aged 5-8, who should be able to read it on their own, as it's a pretty short (only 6 small chapters), and straightforward read.

Especially recommended for families with dogs, or ones who are looking to add a canine or human sibling to their families.

This is a really cute story told through the perspective of Harold, the existing dog of the house, who is confused and a little put off by the arrival of a new puppy in his family. His humans are not understanding him, he’s getting blamed for the new puppy’s mischief, and he feels overlooked. An entertaining read that is a perfect read for a family getting a new pet or a new sibling. The storyline has a great message and is present in a fun way.
Thank you to the publisher for a paperback copy.

This is a great read aloud for families with dogs and kids. The story is compelling and the drawings most appropriate. But there are only fourteen pages of text and four of them have lots of blank space. That makes the book pretty pricey for such a short tale. That's why I gave it only three stars.

Everyone struggles when they get a new sibling or roommate. In Ellie Crowe’s Harold and the Poopy Little Puppy, Harold the dog must adjust to Prince, an adorable little puppy, especially when he gets blamed for Prince’s mischief. The story is fun and has a good moral making Harold perfect for children and any dog lovers out there!

This is a short, fun read with a clever twist. I loved Harold the dog’s amusing attitude and his irritation over a new puppy infringing on his space. A great read for young pet lovers.
