The ninth and final book in the Realm of Arkon series. The world stands on the edge as the Ancient Gods advance on the Great Forest. An enemy from a past life aims to transform into a Beast and destroy Providence itself... To stop him, all must stake their life on the Scales of Fate. All must make a choice, THE choice. Death in battle or life in slavery. A beautiful demoness' smile or the eternal, infinite Void.
Georgy Smorodinsky. 44 years old, live in Moscow, married with three daughters. Akella has been my game nickname for almost 17 years. My love affair with the MMORPG genre began with Ultima Online, and I played WoW from its release date. My main classes are Warrior, Rogue and Death Knight. Back in vanilla WoW I made Grand Marshall with my warrior, for those who still remember what that is. Throughout WoW’s existence I was present for the slaying of roughly 70-80% of raid bosses; in those encounters, I was the main tank about half the time. In vanilla, I was the guild master of Shadow Angels on the Executus server. The guild had approximately 250 members, with an average of 80 people online every day. Sometimes I led raids to MC and BWL (for those who remember, in vanilla raid groups maxed out at 40). I also spent some time playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. Presently I’m playing Black Desert.
Patch 17 is my first book. I had never written anything before it. I was inspired to start writing after reading D. Rus, A. Vasilev, R. Mikhaylov and V. Mahanenko. I wanted to create a world that lived by the game’s rules, to write a book that even gamers would enjoy reading. The same gamers who killed skeletons at the Vesper graveyard, stormed castles in Lineage 2, battled in Alterac Valley, and spent months chipping away at Nefarian and the Lich King.
Of utmost importance to me are: the logic of the game world, the immersion factor (for readers to feel as if they’re part of this world), and logical behavior of the book’s characters. So far so good, it would seem. Five of the books in the series are finished. Book three is in the process of being published. The first two books have sold out their initial print run, and more are being printed. The reviews from critics and fan feedback grow better with each new book. I sincerely hope that you will get to read book two of the series, The Cursed Princedom, in February. Oh, and one day I dream of visiting San Francisco, the city where Patch 17 begins. Thank you, everyone, and happy reading.
Fitting ending to the story. A bit confusing at times if you haven't the whole story line of the 8 first books in the series present, but nonetheless satisfying. An enjoyable ride coming to an end, and a satisfying one at last, without loose ends.
Some parts were perhaps resolved a bit too fast, but I don't mind, better that than trying to milk the cow for another book and having slow pacing in this one...
Somehow I finished this book by skipping about 50% of it. The only reason I didn’t drop it was that I was to curious about the ending.
This series started out so well, but somehow got worse with each book. In the end the cliche and macho characters and writing really got on my nerves. - “my girl”, “my woman” bleh that’s so... - his wife is a succubus, which needs intimacy apparently, but ofc having sex with others besides her spouse is not acceptable for women (even if it’s physically necessary for a succubus). But for a man and the MC it’s ok to have 2 wives?! - then there is the part where she magically bound to obey him... jup slavery - furthermore what’s with the ‘everyone gets their woman’ and ofc they all get pregnant, part?! - then we have the ridiculously long flashbacks in form of dreams - the constant oh have another quest and huge level jump - oh and rage, rage and more rage, that surely helps
+ the part with the little fairy had some humor
All in all I should have probably stopped after the 2nd book...

Another excellent story about Krian and his friends. I really enjoyed how everything resolved! And, I really appreciate the effort with the Epilogue: it gives us just enough of a glimpse of how things will proceed and also wraps it all up. :)
I will miss reading about these characters and yet the story is complete and it wouldn’t make sense to add more. And so, I now look forward to reading about other characters in this same ‘world’ in the future.
To G. Akella, you definitely should come visit the Bay Area! Be sure to check and see if any events are going on in San Francisco, prior to making reservations: either to join in the fun or to avoid the crazy traffic. :) Also, the hotel rates go through the roof for some of the big events (e.g. Salesforce’s Dreamforce convention).
I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.
So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
This story wraps up all the various loose ends and resolves the remaining quests etc but ends in such a way that there may be further books. I was a little unsatisfied with the ending, but I am unable to quite put my finger on what it was that I was missing. Maybe the potential for further stories leaves me wanting more, which may indeed have been the authors intention!
Really liked the series. I thought the ending was a little unexpected and a little rushed. Was hoping for a little more when Roman finally got to face down His big bad boss...on many levels. Just felt it should have been more to that whole battle, but it was still a good ending. I liked he really wrapped up the ending with the characters. But, also left it open for there to be more...
I'm conflicted with this book. Either I'm not ready for it to be over or it was anticlimactic. Every book in this series had many interesting plot twists plenty of struggle and most of all great characters. Looking forward to rereading the whole thing. It was that good. Awesome
Finished it since I read all the other books, but while I find the start of the series terrific, it gets bland and boring to me near the later books and this books is no exception. The only plus for me in this book was the epilogue. I would not recommend it unless you want to finish the series (which you probably want since you're reading this review and have read the other books).
Our hero ends with the beginning of a new life we get to imagine. Thank you for the ride! Well written, marginally edited! Fun, drama, action, surprises, love, friendship, betrayal and honor. All met in this series and played out wonderfully amongst these pages. I am sated with this end of journey. Again, thank you.
I enjoyed it overall. If you enjoy over powered hero’s and sudden yet not random assists to victory you’ll probably like this. Continues to be a bit repetitive but enjoyable overall.
Great finish to a great series. Sad to see it end but it was done with class. Wish Luffy was mentioned more but thats just my opinion. Still great story.
Best series conclusion book I have ever read. Loved the authors epilogue. The story's ending was interesting and new quests as usual just a fun delightful book!
