Tara Fraiser is worried about the mugger stalking her town of Ashford, as her aunt has already been one of the victims, and it appears as if her mother has also scared away an attacker. The crimes are linked by an eerie whistling. When she hears the whistling for herself, it reminds her of the tune of Old Beithir, a legend her father has told her about! But is the mugger a human - or a supernatural entity?

A lightweight, quick YA horror read that is sufficiently spooky enough to sustain interest! At under 150 pages, it lacks any real depth, but the sequence in the garage should raise a few goosebumps, as well as Tara's foolish attempt to lure the mugger by going out at night! I liked the descriptions of the shadowy figure.

However, I wished the book could have decided if it was a standard stalker story, or a supernatural story! Time spent on human red herrings took time away from exploring the legend of Old Beithir. That could have been quite scary and interesting! The ending is a bit of a letdown.

Three stars is being generous, but there are some good bits - if this were fleshed out more and the legend explored more, it really could have been something!

Well this writer never fails to disappoint in the crap department. This book was so boring I found myself drooling one day after passing out asleep trying to finish it.

He claims in the back of the book to live by scary woods and writes at night when it’s dark and things just aren’t as they appear . Ummm dude I have better nightmares than this!!!!

Midnight place has the potential to be so much more. Please do the world of horror a favor and hand off to anyone else like king or koontz hell even I’ll write it for ya.

If your teen likes good horror books like I do please skip this guys books altogether thank you please drive thru.

A Spooky, nail biting read

Something's Watching is a terrific book. The characters are well developed and three dimensional, the mystery is fun, and the descriptions and style are great. Charles L. Grant weaves a tight and suspenseful tale. Highly recommended for middle grade and YA readers. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!
