I think I got myself into a reading rut over Christmas vacation. I picked up a couple books, started them and then put them down because it just wasn't what I wanted to read. I can be a moody reader- especially when I am reading for my own pleasure and not for reviews. What do I really want to read? I was in this predicament when I started reading this book by Cami Checketts. I had picked up two books, started them, but they weren't tickling my fancy. I started this book and right away it caught my attention because, hello kiss! Yeah, I will admit with no shame that I really love when a books starts me off with a tingling kiss. That was the hook for me with this book. It made my drive through Nevada a WHOLE lot more pleasurable!!
The premise of this book is unlike any other I've read. I loved the extreme sport slant and how Bridger was so gifted with athletics and didn't back down from the challenges posed to him. He was strong, capable and determined. He protected Avalyn with everything in him. That is sexy.
This book hit my sweet spot for sure. I loved all the yummy kissing, the swirling attraction and the building tension. The story had me engaged and interested from start to finish. I loved the ending.
It's true that this story is a little over-the-top at times, but it got my heart pounding (in more ways than one) and was a totally fun escape! This was just what I needed to disappear into on a cold Saturday afternoon. There's no such thing as too much kissing, right? 😉
Bridger seems to have absolutely no fear of anything. In fact, when he sees his long-time crush at his brother's wedding, he walks right up and kisses her. Talk about sweeping someone (me) off her feet! He's gorgeous and he's a playboy, but when it comes right down to it, he's been madly in love with Avalyn for years. She just can't accept that someone like him would go for someone like her. Although Bridger is a player and doesn't take things seriously, he's loyal and dedicated to what really matters and I loved that about him.
When Ramsey, Bridger's completely certifiably insane friend, issues the ultimate challenge, with Avalyn as the pawn/prize, all bets are off. This time was full of crazy danger, thrilling intense situations, and swoony sparks.
I honestly can't imagine enduring even half of the stunts that Bridger and Avalyn go through. I'm a homebody and chicken at heart, I guess, but it was satisfying to take some vicarious risks through these characters.
Content: some light innuendo; mild+ swoony romance (kissing); a lot of dangerous stunt elements; very mild religion
I needed a quick escape the other day. So I opened Risking it All by Cami Checketts on my Kindle. I know that her books will take me somewhere else quickly. And they’re usually quick reads for me as well. I was able to escape and return all in one afternoon. And that makes me happy!
This one features Avalyn and Bridger. I liked Avalyn. She’s worked to protect her heart from Bridger for as long as she can remember. He kissed her one day, the most amazing kiss ever. And the next day he kissed another girl in front of the whole school. Avalyn gets pulled into something she never wanted to be pulled into. A contest of craziness between two insane extreme sports enthusiasts. I loved that she keeps her composure, even when she’s the prize for the two of them.
Bridger seems to be a good guy. He doesn’t come up with the contest. In fact, he’s just as confused as Avalyn as to what’s going on. He works as hard as he can to keep Avalyn safe. And the one time he feels like he failed, he kept fighting as hard as he could to get her protected, even when it seemed pointless.
The plot of this one is fast paced. I loved the way I could never tell what was going to happen next. It definitely kept me on my toes. It was a perfect escape! I loved every bit of it.
After reading Her Billionaire Boss Fake Fiance, I really wanted to read Bridger Hawk's story. But this book ended up being nothing like I'd anticipated, and it totally turned me off. I think a large part of it is that I didn't like Bridger very much. His nickname for Ava (Ava Baby) made me cringe every single time I read it, and his excuse for why he kissed another girl in high school was so stupid and immature. (Yes, teenage boys are immature, but anyone with half a brain could've recognized that his actions would drive Ava away.)
Then we have the "suspense" aspect of the novel. The bad guy (or was he really bad?) was definitely crazy, and the whole thing was just so unbelievable to me. It did move Bridger and Ava from pining to a real relationship, but I just didn't buy the way it happened.
I finished the book, and I'm still not sure why. I know from experience that Cami Checketts is a good writer, but this book was a big letdown. 1-1/2 stars.
Another exciting Hawk Brother romance. Avalyn and Bridger have been friends since childhood and have been in love since early teens. Bridger becomes a playboy as an adult. Avalyn did not trust him to love her. So she avoids him. But when she is kidnapped, many things change. Another 5 star suspenseful, romance to keep you on the edge of your seat.
An exciting and exhilarating story brings lifelong friends Bridger and Avalyn together with an extreme sports man who has ulterior motives that kept me on edge from beginning to end. If only all of Cami’s books were as wonderful as this one. I listened to the audiobook and once again Paul Woodson gave a wonderful performance.
This is the first in this series I've read. I hadn't read the blurb before I started and this was not at all what I was expecting. I started it pretty much expecting a fluff romance. This was not that. It had the romance and taken by itself it could have been fluff stuff but as the love interests are thrown in to multiple life threatening situations there was nothing fluffy about the story overall.
So my experience with the book was all over the place. To start, I hated Bridger. I thought his behavior in the beginning of the book to be totally inappropriate and actually sexual assault even if she did kinda like it. He pressed himself on her without her consent. I kept reading for two reasons. One, I got this as an ARC so I was trying to give it a chance and two, I figured there had to be something redeeming about him that we'd learn as the story went along so I kept reading. But since I thought Bridger was a complete jerk I wondered what Avalyn, or Ava Baby as jerk face called her, could possibly see in him.
So I went from that to total shock as Avalyn and Bridger are kidnapped and forced into a horrendous situation. That is when fluff romance went out the door. My heart was pounding through almost the rest of the book. Pretty sure I'd have died of a heart attack in Avalyn's situation. Terrifying. But this is when Bridger began to shine. His cockiness with her was still annoying but we got to see why she might actually like him. I did wonder if I'd be that focused on my love life in those life threatening situations. It might be the romantic equivalent of comic relief needed to remove us from the scary crazy dude with all the gun toting minions.
There are some religious elements in the story. Frankly I think anyone in Avalyn and Bridger's place would have been praying a ton and so it is no surprise that they were too. No sermons.
3.5 stars for this newest from Cami Checketts. This is an interesting read and somewhat different from other books I’ve read by the author. Bridger is an extreme sport athlete who is at the top of his game, confident, passionate, wealthy, and totally in love with his childhood friend Ava. Avalyn is a bit older, totally focused and devoted to philanthropy for bettering the world for third-world country children. They are pretty much opposites and, though she’s loved him for as long as she can remember, Ava believes they are not suited for each other. Enter Bridger’s fiercest competitor and “friend”, who takes both of them on the wildest journey and challenge of their lives. The premise is a bit weird and creepy, almost like some crazy survival reality TV show. There are over-the-top moments in the plot, as other reviewers have stated. The story does come together at the end, explaining what Bridger’s friend plotted and does have the happily-ever-after ending along with quite a few intense moments of adrenaline during the physical challenges, as well as the suspense of what will happen next to Bridger and Ava during the competition. Most of Bridger and Ava’s romance is based on their past history and their current action-filled do-or-die circumstance.
If you enjoy a contemporary romance filled with extreme sport adrenaline, you will enjoy this book. I was given a copy of the book by the author and was under no obligation to post a review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
I enjoyed reading this story very much. It was different and had a few twists and turns that added to its uniqueness.
Avalyn Shaman was a philanthropist and traveled the world helping educate others about the plight of the adults and children of the world who lived in severe poverty. She had loved Bridger Hawk since they were children but he was a player and she wanted nothing to do with that. She didn't want to risk her heart any more than she had when she was younger.
Bridger Hawk was an extreme sports athlete who lived life on the edge and was always looking for the next thrill. To the public, he was a playboy who loved women but really there was only one woman for him and she wouldn't give him the time of day. He had been in love with Avalyn Shaman since the first time he kissed her in high school. It had been eight years since they had last seen each other and now his brother and her friend were getting married in Cancun and they were thrown together. He kept putting his heart out there and Ava kept throwing it back to him.
When they were both kidnapped and Ava was used as the motivation for him to try and win and also the prize for the winner, Bridger was determined to protect him at all costs. He couldn't let her get hurt by a man who was insane and a thrill seeker, as well. Would he be able to keep Ava safe or would he lose her forever?
This was a clean romance with an unusual plot that worked. I was given an arc copy and I willingly offer my review.
Just wow! This story is super intense, just like Bridger. I couldn't put it down. Avalyn got sucked into his crazy world while trying to avoid it. Bridger will do anything to rescue Avalyn and hopefully win her heart too. There was certainly heart pumping action. It was presented in a way that even someone like me who shies away from violence could handle though. I loved seeing this crazy yet lovable Hawk brother be tamed by the woman he loves. I can't help but wish there was another book to get me into the lives of this strong and loving family again. This is the 4th book about the Hawk brothers. Each book stands alone but references the characters from the other books. It is so fun to get a peek into the lives of the others I have read about.
Wow, I had no idea the fast paced thriller I was getting into when I started reading this book! It was so exciting! It was like a roller coaster ride of love and adventure. I’ve read Emmit and Callum’s story in the past so I knew a little about the family and even had heard talk of Ava. But wow, this story was really different from the others. They are all stand alone books. This one follows the “kiss them and leave them” Hawk brother, Bridger. From the beginning of the book we are clued in that the only one that has Bridger’s heart is Ava, who just so happens to be the only woman to keep pushing him away. So through this adventure they unwittingly find themselves on they have to learn to trust and rely on each other to make it out unscathed. Clean romance.
Want to spend an afternoon reading? This book will keep your attention. I have read other books by Cami Checketts. But this was my first Hawks brother’s book. I loved reading Ava and Bridget’s story. It was a different premise to this story with Bridger having to do extreme sport challenges to save and protect Ava. I love that it is a clean novel. My only complaint is now I want to read all the other books in this series. While this is a stand alone book how could you not want to read more about the Hawk brothers after reading this story.
This one just didn't do it for me even though I wanted to like it. I love the idea that he has been in love with her for years, but I just didn't believe it. He seemed to always be flirting with other girls, and I just can't believe that he would STILL be trying to make her jealous, especially when it didn't work for him the first time. Their interaction at the beginning of the book just turned me off, and I considered giving up there. I wish I had. It just got so over the top and unbelievable. A total miss for me.
Oh! How I love Bridger Hawk! I read a couple reviews that were critical of him. I was expecting some less than honorable behavior. But I never found it. I wonder if those reviewers read the same book. Bridger knew how he felt and what he wanted and was confident enough to work for it. I can truly love a man who is confident, but vulnerable enough to know he has things to overcome. And to make it even better, he can add a bit of humor to lighten the mood in the worst situations! I love Risking it All!
Whoa!!! Talk about an intense book! Hawk brother Bridger finally gets his own book and man was it full of CRAZY adventure! Avalyn has always loved Bridger Hawk from a far knowing he would never choose her. Little does Avalyn know he has always loved her too! A so called "friend" of Bridger kidnaps he and Avalyn and forces them to take part in some life-threatening crazy challenges. This book was filled with suspense and swoony clean romance and had me hooked to the very end. It was very well written and I loved the characters. Definitely a great read!
This is the story of how baby brother Bridger finally connects with his first and only true love, the "girl down the street", Avalyn Shaman. Bridger needs to win many challenges against his longtime extreme sports rival to keep Ava safe. But he needs to win against his own past behavior to earn Ava's heart.
Make sure you read the bonus epilogue, the "Hawk Brothers Reunion", at the end
I bought a copy of this book in a boxset from Amazon and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Great book, loved the story line and the love, intrigue and all the fighting for competition. The fact that Bridger fought Ramsey so he could keep Ava Baby for himself. They were captured and put on a boat to do some dare devil stunts, just to suit Ramsey and his evil mind. This is a book well worth reading and finishing the series. This was. A Free book as well as a great read. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Bridger is into extreme sports and has loved Avalyn since he was 12. Avalyn works for a group that helps children in poverty and trafficking. She has also loved him for years. They meet up again at his brother's wedding. It is a crazy time and this book is filled with emotionally packed scenes. It is fun, sad and crazy throughout this book. Loved it.
At one point one of the main characters is wondering if the villain "had multiple personalities or maybe was bipolar." Because the villain was at times nice and at other times mean.
FYI - Multiple personalities and bipolar are two VERY different things! This is also a very careless comment by the author that perpetuates the stereotype that all those with mental illnesses are "crazy" or "villainous."
Okay, this one came out of nowhere! I was not expecting the craziness that was Bridger and Ava’s kidnapping! I was really hoping for some closure on his “friend” though. Maybe an epilogue where at the wedding reception Sutton goes over and tells them that he is buried on an island and Mike was enjoying life on an island…. For real, that was completely unexpected!
This book captured my attention and I had to read it in one sitting. There is suspense and romance in this book. And there were definitely some twists in the story line that I didn't see coming. It definitely had me cheering for Bridger. Ava has a good heart. This is my first Hawk Brothers book but now I want to read to the rest of them.
I love Bridger and Ava’s story! I was on the edge of my seat with the intensity of the stunts Bridger was involved with. Lots of steamy kissing scenes, funny banter, and adventure. After reading My Fake Fiancé Billionaire Boss with Callum and Lexi, I really wanted to read Bridgers story. Highly recommend this book and this author.
Risking it All Gotta love those Hawk brothers and the adventures that follow them everywhere. This book is Bridger's and considering his love for non-traditional extreme sports, it had to be a doozy. He's always loved Avalyn Shaman and he'll risk his own life, go to any extreme, to protect her. Seatbelts required for this story!
This is one of my favorite love story of all time with an endearing love story and characters plus a lovable villain that will definitely have you emotional and the amazing connection you will feel with each and every character and moments will make it a story you will definitely never forget.
This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat. How they ever lived through this is amazing. Cami really brought me into this story and at times I had stop but I still could not stop. I am sorry that the Hawk family books have ended. I look forward to the next book.
It was well written and had some intense moments. The characters were a mix of interesting and a little strange. It was truly a book I could not out down. I could not guest what would happen next. I am glad I took this journey through another good book.
This romance starts fast and never slows down, which means you need to clear your schedule when you sit down to read this book.
It's a second chance romance with wacky, life in peril twists along the way. So besides the characters emotional baggage, they need to find a way to stay alive and stay together.
Excellent story that will hold your interest. Bridger’s “friend” Ramsey is always trying to best him on his YouTube videos. Both are extreme athletes but this time Ramsey’s challenges risks more than himself. The challenges are suspenseful as they risk Avalyn. Can Bridger win them along with Avalyn’s love? Loved it.
Clever plot, handsome-conceited hunk, twisted friend. This book kept me up all night. Suspenseful, clean, and oh boy another Hawk brother. I'm going to have to re-read all the Hawk brother books again!
Another great book by Cami Checketts. This book has romance, intrigue, a little bit of mystery and a HEA. You will definitely want to read the rest of the series and all of the Hawk brother's books!
