Anthony S. Park is a professional executor, attorney, and best-selling author of “How to Invest for Retirement.”
As an attorney, Anthony has advised hundreds of families on their personal finances. But more importantly, as a professional executor, he’s seen what fared well (and what didn’t) at the end, upon death.
He writes to share all that he’s learned from this unique perspective about money, personal finance, and business.
Anthony lives in New York with his wife and kids, bikes everywhere, and plays soccer every week (rain or shine).
This book has lots of good information on buying a home for the first time. Not sure if I'll bite the bullet or not, but this book gave me (or reminded me of) some good information. Good grab on Kindle Unlimited.
I have read several short nonfiction guides by this author, and in general, I find them to be very well written and to the point. This book is no exception. Buying a house is certainly a complex topic, and a book this short cannot cover every detail. But if you are new to buying a home, this will provide you with the terminology as well as many key points to consider at each step of the process. The book is broadly divided into three sections. The first is mostly introductory, the second is about figuring out what house you might want and qualify for, and the last section is about actually obtaining it. If you live in New York, as the author does, you will find little boxed tips scattered throughout that are specific to New York, but the rest of the book should apply to any place in the US. I thought some of his preparatory steps, as listed, took too long; in my first home-buying experience, some steps were certainly shorter. Some might think that this has a lot of detail for the first-time homebuyer, but the process is long and complex, and of course, ultimately takes a big chunk out of your income for a long period of time, so to my mind, this level of detail is warranted. All in all, especially as one who went through this process a couple of years ago, I found this to be a helpful guide that I wish I would have had just a few years ago before I went through this process myself. So if you're on the cusp of your first home purchase, I recommend this little guide to help get you thinking the right way and get you familiar with the terminology you will run into as you talk with bank officers, mortgage lenders, Realtors, and title companies.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Anthony S. Park offers first-time home buyers an excellent resource, especially if you live in New York City. Well-written and easy to understand, How To Buy Your Perfect First Home is a must-read before you begin house hunting or looking at mortgages. Park provides the necessary vocabulary lessons as well as an explanation of the important stepping stones and how they interrelate throughout the overall process. After an introduction to the home buying process, the book provides insight into deciding what house is the right fit for you and Park concludes with the details behind closing the deal. This is much more than just a helpful guide – if you’re considering purchasing your first home, buy this book today!
As a first time buyer I thought I'd read this for extra tips.. unfortunately, the target readers are those who are looking to buy homes/condos/co-ops in NYC, cities, or suburbs and isn't much help when you're looking to buy a home in the country. There wasn't a whole lot in here that I hadn't already learned from life experience and perusing online real estate articles. The pro is that the information is all condensed into one .pdf, the con is that you could easily glean this information from searching Google and reading up on tips for purchasing your first home. If you're in the market to purchase an apartment in NYC this book may be useful to you though it was not for me.

As someone who is currently looking for their first home, I found this book to be quite helpful. It's pretty short, but I think if it had been much longer it would have read more like a real estate textbook than a guide for the average person. That being said, most of the information in this book is readily available online via a simple search. But there's definitely something to be said for the convenience of having it all put together into book format.
This was a good book to help anyone understand the process of buying a personal residence. Very easy to read and no confusing jargon. The author did an excellent job of keeping it simple, while still being very thorough in his explanations. I highly recommended this book!
Basically everything is available for free online. Little extra insight. Wasted my money on this purchase. Only thing way i could see this a helpful would be for a New York city buyer given the extra blurbs in that specific market.
It's focused a bit on New York specific home buying with obviously slanted information. That being said it had some insights that could be useful to any first time buyer. Overall, it's okay.

No fluff and lots of useful and wise advice and guidelines. A quick read and worth reviewing as you go through the phases of home buying. If you are in New York some very specific tips for each borough and for co-ops and condos.
My husband and I are hoping to buy our first home soon(ish), and I was very interested by some of the tips the author gave! I specifically like the “practice living on a mortgage budget.”
