Tragedy drove Landon Welch to enlist in the Army with no plans of returning home. After serving seven years as a combat medic, he's teetering on the edge of burnout when ordered to take leave and confront his demons.
Landon’s been searching for redemption, but he never expected to find Mercy.
Preschool director Mercedes Foster has dedicated her life to brightening the futures of low-income children. She’s intelligent, driven, and avoiding distractions, especially one sexy soldier with questionable motives. But when Mercy’s brother gets mixed up in trouble that could endanger her cause and risk her life, Landon might be just the complication she needs to survive.
*This book is a full length novel which means you get even MORE deliciousness*
Nothing wrong with the story or with the characters. I just couldn't connect with either. Heroine and Hero were a bit bland. Everything felt flat. Even when there was action and Heroine assaulted with a weapon and Hero came to the rescue; both behaved like nothing happened. No feelings, no relief, no connection.
I think the writing style was the problem with this one. Too much telling and not showing. Hero and Heroine are too much in their heads and nothing really happens. At least in the beginning.
This one was a bit different, due to the Dead Presidents being in the background. I did like the events that they were brought into, especially with the kids and again at the end with all the drama.
I liked how things evolved between Landon and Mercy, but it was also a bit rushed. Sure there was a time limit due to Landon being on leave and sure things seemed to accelerate after Mercy was hurt. But as much as Landon was worried about being home with his mom, that part of the story seemed to get dropped. But with all that being said, I did enjoy this one.
I feel this more of a happily for now story. It had a bit of drama and excitement. I did have a hard time connecting to the characters and the chemistry was ok. It deals well with the affects of our soldiers protecting our country.
I've read all of the Dead Presidents MC books, by this author, and loved each and every one. I've not, however read any of the Special Forces books by Susan Stoker. I'm not sure why, because they've caught my eye, I've just never picked one up. Now, I'm regretting that, if this book is any indication of how the stories go! (I will say, even though this book is supposed to take place in the Special Forces World, I had absolutely no trouble following along. I'm not sure where it fits in, or what I may have missed, but I had no issues.)
Mercy is a pre-school administrator. She is working hard to give back to her community, beginning with its youngest, and most vulnerable citizens. She has a huge heart, and is a genuinely nice person. But she's been burned, having grown up in a situation where love is a joke and not to be trusted. So she concentrates on her school, and the children.
Landon is an active duty Army Medic. He loves his mother, but doesn't come to visit, and rarely calls, due to some misplaced feelings regarding his father's death. He is mixed up, trying to make up for those feelings by giving his all to his country. When he is finally forced to come home, he finds that things aren't always like they seem.
With Mercy and Landon, sparks fly from their very first meeting! I loved the chemistry they had, how well they fit together, how well they worked together. I loved visiting with the Dead Presidents MC guys, and hope to see more of Mercy and Landon in the future! This series has been nothing but amazing, and Mercy and Landon fit in well with the guys! On another note, think I'm going to have to dive into those Special Forces books.......
This is a spin off book of the Dead Presidents MC series set in Susan Stokers Special Forces world. It can absolutely be read as a stand alone as I had never read a book by this author before. It is about Landon Welch and Mercedes Foster. Landon joined the service and became a medic to try to get redemption for something that happened with his family. Never understanding that his self imposed exile was never necessary or that he didn't have anything to atone for. Now on the brink of burn out, the military is forcing him to take leave and get some perspective. So he goes home, never expecting to meet Mercy. Mercy is the director for a preschool that is set up to help low-income children get the best start that they can in life. She has dedicated herself to trying to helping children not only get a jump start on education but to have a way to help them be fed and their families get the help they so desperately need. She never expected meeting Landon or having his help when her brother gets into trouble. And she certainly never planned on falling for the soldier with so much mental anguish.
I loved this book! This was a new to me author but the book sounded great and definitely lived up to the potential it had in the blurb! Landon is a sweet but tortured soul who desperately needs someone to love him and that he can love and protect in return. He also needs to be able to find the place that he truly belongs. Mercy is a woman who has let parts of her past affect her present and future but when Landon appears in her life, she figures out exactly what she needs and wants in order to make herself happy in the long run. They both have their issues but they still manage to work them out and make their futures bright and I loved every bit of it! Now I have to go back and read the series that started it all because the little bit I saw of them in this book definitely intrigued me! And I really hope at some point in the future we can have a book about Mercy's brother as well!! Definitely a great way to introduce an author to me!
Mercy is the head of a private day care for kids in a bad area. She meets Landon a friend son and Army medic on leave and connection happens. But his only on leave and she's got problems but him and the MC saves the day.
Another awesome book by Harley Stone! While this book is not strictly about the Dead Presidents MC, the club does play a prominent role in the book. They decide to help out the preschool that is run by Mercedes Foster, and they are always on the lookout to bring in new members who happen to be vets. This is where Landon Welch comes into the picture.
Landon is definitely a character that can fit in with the rest of the members of the MC … if he so wishes. He is strong and sure of himself, but not of his past. He definitely confronts that in this book and then had to come to other realizations about his life and what he is going to do moving forward. But what really got me with Landon is the way that he was with his mother. Now that was a backstory that both sides really needed to deal with … and did. And it was beautiful!
Mercy is also an interesting character. She is young, but she has determination and resilience, which is really necessary when dealing with the alpha’s of the club, and Landon. They had a bit of a rocky start, and that was because of some preconceived notions by Mercy and how she handled their original meeting, but I was happy with the way the whole thing played out.
Rescuing Mercy had a little bit of everything it … passion, danger, intrigue, and settling of a past that has plagued two people. The characters were awesome and the situations were intriguing. I got pulled in from the first meet between the MC and Mercy, and then the snarky introduction between Mercy and Landon.
Overall, loved it! The characters are memorable and the storyline was intriguing and well written. This was a quick read for me and I am so hoping that Harley Stone brings them back for another installment in the series. Two thumbs up from me! Happy reading!!
I recently discovered the Dead Presidents MC by Harley Stone, and fell in love with the characters and the style of writing. This book is a spin off from that series, but only in a tangential way. It also has a couple of characters making a guest appearance from one of Susan Stoker’s series. Again these characters are tangential to the plot. The people you actually care about are introduced to the MC and they are support characters at most.
The book is actually about Mercy and 23 year old who is mature beyond her years. She lived on her own from age 16 and still managed to get a masters degree. She is the director of a pre-school in a disadvantaged area of Seattle, where shots get fired and no one calls the police. She is passionate about supporting the children who are born into poverty, find their way through the dark place in which they live.
Landon is an army medic who left home at 18 after the death of his father. At age 25 and ordered to take 45 days of leave he decides it’s time to go and visit his mother at last. His mother Beth volunteers at the pre-school at Mercy runs and they have become very close friends.
This is the story of two people who have had difficult formative years work out how to form relationships and at the same time help those around them. Obviously because they live and work in a rough neighbourhood there is some excitement, but mainly it’s about the great characters, their humour and affection for each other and them finding a way to be happy.
This is a complete standalone, despite being a double spin off book, so it’s a good introduction to the Dead Presidents if you haven’t read any of them yet. You really should, it’s an excellent series.
I found Harley Stone through the recommendation of another author I love, I’m so glad I gave her writing a try. Ms. Stone immediately became one of my favorite go-to authors. I love her writing style especially love her MC books.
Now Rescuing Mercy is part of Susan Stoker’s Special Forces World, but it is also a spinoff of Ms. Stone’s Dead Presidents MC and I’ll never turn down a chance for a bit more of those guys. But they are just extra characters, this is about Landon & Mercy. These two just click, sometimes in very entertaining ways. At first there is some hostility towards Landon from Mercy due to the time frame he has been away due to feelings of guilt and the toll that time away took on Landon’s mom.
I admire all Mercy has accomplished in her life so far and everything she has done for her preschool. The kids are adorable, especially the “twins”. Reading their story and their switch from frenemy to lovers was enjoyable and let’s face it, they were never enemies. Mercy’s only thing against Landon was what he put his mom through.
This book will hold you until the end. There is drama, action, romance and sex (of course) and a healthy dose of humor as well. Harley Stone has never disappointed me and she isn’t starting now. I hope we see more of Landon and Mercy in future Dead Presidents books.
This was my first book by this author but not my last.
Landon Welsh left home in 7 years after the death of his father. His a medic now in the military.
When his leave to stay on after losing a member of his team is declined by his commanding officer. Who sees his on the verge of burn out. tells him to go home and get some rest London heads
home unsure of his welcome.
Whilst staying at his mum's he meets his mom's Boss that a spitfire called Mercedes foster she works in a school for low income children, she has no problem calling him out on his crappy treatment of his mum.
But there's more to the story than Landon not wanting to see his mum.
As they start getting to know each other it's clear that Mercedes first thoughts on Landon was based on a lot of assumption.
When Mercedes gets hurt at work things between blossom quickly.
Both agreeing it's just until Landon's leave is over.
But when Ben, Mercedes's brother puts her in danger, Landon can no longer deny his true feelings for her. Great story loved it read it in one go looking forward to reading more by this author.
This still includes characters from the Dead Presidents but its focus is on Mercy. She is the Head of a Preschool that was for low income families.
This was very interesting to see ambitious clever and passionate women as the lead. Her job is so important to her and I think very important we have these women as leads in our books.
Even as lust developed between Mercy and Landon it doesn't make her career and accomplishments any less important. Landon is an army medic on leave visiting home for the first time in 7 years.
I was intrigued to know the story of him joining the army and getting to know the history between him and his mum.
Highlights of the book have to be the friendship of 2 of the kids in the preschool as well as the Dead Presidents MC helping out at Christmas.
Was nice read and would recommend to others but I feel like wanted a bit more. Think that's just me being greedy though!
So I’ve read two stories in recent days that are set in Susan Stoker’s world of Special Forces and I am ashamed to say that I have never read that series. But in contrast I’ve read every book in the Dead Presidents series and I love every book in that series. You didn’t necessarily have to read the books and the Dead Presidents series to understand this one. Landon has a tragedy in his past and decides after high school to join the army. He hasn’t visited his mom in 7 years because of feelings of guilt. Mercy has grown up neglected and she strives to be the best preschool director possible to give back to the low income families and their kids and their developing the years. Once they meet, Landon’s mom is the cook at the preschool Mercy directs, fireworks explode and not the good kind. Not knowing the whole story Mercy comes down hard on Landon for abandoning his mom. They find a common ground and develop a truce between the two of them for his mom‘s sake. Both of them are trying to atone for their pasts. The more time they spend together The more they are feelings develop for each other. When Landon goes back into the army to complete the rest of his tour will Mercy wait for him not knowing when he will come home again? Will he wait another 7 years to make an appearance? I highly recommend this book if you want your military romance fix with a slight MC influence! I can’t wait for the Dead Presidents series to continue!!
❤️🌼🔥LANDON WELCH.......HAVE MERCY!!!!❤️🌼🔥 I love the Dead Presidents Series...and RESCUING MERCY is no exception....For those who haven’t read this series, they are not your average MC, but are all sexy veterans, all alphas and all good guys with whom every girl would fall in love.... ❤️🌼🔥 RESCUING MERCY is about Landon Welch, a combat medic, who has not been home from the military in 7 years, not seen his mother in 7 years and has not faced his demons in 7 years....His commander is forcing him to take a break....So, he knows he has no choice but to go home....❤️🌼🔥 Mercedes (Mercy) Foster is a pre-school director in a bad part of town, and she has made it her life with little room for anything else...From a bad home, Mercy has “adopted” Beth Welch as a mother figure, and with Beth not seeing her son in 7 years, Mercy has given Beth companionship and a purpose at the pre-school...❤️🌼🔥 AND she’s given Beth’s son, Landon, a reason to NOT re-enlist......❤️🌼🔥
This still includes characters from the Dead Presidents but its focus is on Mercy. She is the Head of a Preschool that was for low income families.

Landon & Mercy Landon is a combat medic in the military and has not been home in 7 years . His choice not to return for so long was his but now his boss wants him on a leave after a very traumatic mission . Landon's mom Beth has been hoping for the day that he would appear on her doorstep . She lost her husband 7 years ago and then her son left . It has been difficult for her but she has been working at the local preschool and has befriended the director Mercy . It has made the time pass. Mercy has watch Beth make excuses for her son and why he doesn't come home on leave so that has certainly left a bad taste in her mouth. When Mercy and Landon finally meet the immediate connection is there but Mercy is a tough cookie. This was a wonderful story filled with love, sexual chemistry , action and a whole lot of feelings !!! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, swoon and not want to put it down then this is your next read! Mercy and Landon are two people not looking for love but walk right into it and don't look back. Mercy is a spunky heroine with drive and Landon is an alpha who is trying to figure out his future. Both have their own demons and past's but work together to build an amazing relationship. But can their love stand the tests of outside forces and Landons career? Well you will just have to read the book to find out! Harley Stone is one of those authors that will take you on a ride with a story full of depth and emotion. This book has action, steamy romance, suspense and a page turning plot. I loved every page of this book and if you are looking for more check out the Dead Presidents MC series!
I found Harley because of Piper and Jack Davenport (if you haven't read their series, do it now). What a great find this was indeed. Her Dead Presidents MC series is a must-read for me. This book is a spin-off, but you don't have to read the others to understand what is happening here. Mercy runs a school in a not so good part of town, but she loves her kids and will do anything to keep everyone safe. Landon left home after the death of his father and joined the military. He hasn't been back in eight years. He is forced to return when his commander orders him to take leave. He meet Mercy through his mother. His mom works at her school and the two have become great friends. When Mercy is in danger, he jumps in and meets the men of the Dead Presidents MC. It's a great read and one I think you'll enjoy a lot.
Great spin off of Ms. Stone's Dead President's Series and Ms. Stoker's Special Forces World. Landon Welch is a combat medic and is burning out. The army forces him to take his leave that's been putting off forever. Mercy Foster is the director of a preschool and is pissed at Landon, whom she's never met cause he has left his mom alone for the last seven years. Sparks fly when they first meet, and continue to fly when they get together. They only have a short time and then Landon is going back to the sandbox.
Link and the Dead President's are considering assisting the preschool where Mercy works. There's a pissed off parent, a potty mouth preschooler, a shooting, pepper spray, a misguided sibling and a black Santa. All these things make up an explosive story that I highly recommend.
Mercy runs a preschool for underprivileged children in a rough area of the city. She’s young but driven, she wants to make these kids lives better and won’t let anything stand in her way. She knows what it’s like to have a tough childhood with no one to save her.
Landon left home seven years ago and hasn’t been back since. It’s time for him to face his demons and stop running. He wasn’t expecting the home coming he received, and he certainly wasn’t expecting Mercy.
I love the Dead Presidents. I love what they stand for and how they help vets and their community. (I know its fiction, but it’s good fiction). This is book 4.5, it’s starting a spin off series, although after reading the book I’m not sure where that series is headed. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone reading the Dead Presidents. 4.5 Stars.
After a tragedy at home Landon left town seven years ago and joined the Army. He has been told by his officer that he must take a leave before returning to service. He heads home to see his mother, but it is Mercy who changes his life.
Mercy is a pre-school administration and Landon’s mother works for her. She is not shy about standing up for those she cares about so she is quick to voice her opinion of what she perceives to be Landon’s treatment of his mother.
The sparks fly between them but when Mercy in in danger will he be able to keep her safe?
This is my first story by this author but it definitely won’t be my last. Suspense, action, romance and twists all combine into one great story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this story of Mercy and Landon and especially catching up with my favourite Dead Presidents MC❣️
Landon is currently serving his country as a combat medic but after years of service, he is forced to take a much needed vacation. He is not happy about it, but end up going home to see his mom, Beth. He never expected to encounter Mercy though and she gives him a piece of her mind when she meets him for the first time.
Mercy is a preschool director and has taken to Beth, like a duck to water. But she’s not happy with Landon and the fact that he has never come home since he enlisted with the Army. When she meets him though, she didn’t expect to feel anything for him but sparks fly for the both of them😍
Fantastic story and I’m looking forward to more Dead Presidents❣️
OMFG this woman surpasses herself EVERY RELEASE!!! Landon and Mercy are freaking INCREDIBLE! Landon is a combat medic who gets forced to to take his leave time. For the first time in 7 years he finds himself home dealing with his past, seeing his mom and meeting Mercy. I absofreakinglutely adore Mercy, she is intelligent, strong, beautiful inside and out, caring and humorous. Both these characters, with the added yumminess of The DP's presence had me rapidly turning the pages of this well written story needing to know every twist coming! A must read that I'll deff reread several times as a pick me up on bad days.
Although a new author to me I am always will to try their books when they release within another authors world. It didn’t disappoint at all. We have Landan, a medic in the Army home on leave after 7 years because of the potential to burn out. Back in his old neighbourhood to face his demons from the death of his father. Mercy is 23 and the youngest person to take over a school. A school for low income children who can learn, have fun and have 3 square meals a day. As things hear up between Landan and Mercy, things aren’t going to well for her brother who brings trouble to the school. As shots are fired it’s a race to save one of the characters. Who will survive? A great story and characters and it held my attention through out. It was great to see some of Susan’s characters with in the story as well (Blade and Wendy) I hope to see more from this author.
Harley Stone did it again! Her Dead presidents series gets better and better. Landon and Mercy are characters you will fallnin love with. I like that Mercy is someone that became an independant successful woman against all the odds she faced. She was also Landon's saving grace. This book will give you all the feels. Harley's characters are compasstionate, kind, loving and fiercly protective to those they love. She writes of men dealing with war, and what they go through during and after. As a wife of a veteran myself, she deals with situations with compassion and accuracy. Another 5 star!!!
Excellent story!! I love the Dead Presidents series & Landon & Mercy turned out to be one of my favorites! I love the way their relationship starts out - she's ticked at him for not being home in a long time, and she lets him know it (even though they just met)! As they get to know each other, Mercy finds the heart of him, and their relationship happens FAST and STEAMY.
There's also something going on with her brother, and at her preschool, and the story lines all work together really well. I also loved how seamlessly the Club & Susan Stoker's characters were woven in. Thumbs up! Enjoyable, sweet, steamy & a great read!! : )
First book I have read by this author and it will not be my last. I really enjoyed Mercedes (Mercy) and Landon’s story. It was a heart-warming read full of emotion, action, suspense, family, and friends. The characters were fun and likeable and the storyline is engaging. I loved the connection with Mercy and Landon and the interaction with his mom and the Dead Presidents club. There were plenty of fun, quirky moments as well as intense drama, emotional turmoil and sexy times to fill the pages. It was a page-turner that I hated to see end. Since this book connects with the Dead Presidents MC series, I will definitely be seeking those out for more adventures!
3.5 stars Landon has been in the service for seven years with no plans to ever go home. Guilt was holding him hostage and he felt being a medic was his penance. Mercy is the director for a preschool in a low income neighborhood and she works with Landon’s mom. When they meet the attraction is there, but neither wants a relationship. Things progress rather quickly though. I thought Mercy was awfully judgmental for someone who had no clue what Landon had gone through. There are cameos from a few of the Dead Presidents MC, and drama surrounding Mercy’s brother. Overall I thought this was a good read.
A favorite author writing in the world of another favorite author....yes please!!!!
Landon is returning home after seven years and not because he wants to. He has no idea how much his life is going to change. I love a strong female character and Mercy is certainly that! This story has everything you could ever need - a broken hero, suspense, romance, humor and The Dead Presidents!!! This is a great addition to the series and I really enjoyed it.
I'm kind of hoping there is going to be a spin off for a certain character so I'm definitely going to stay tuned!
A exceptional, sexy, sigh worthy romance with some good action, sizzling chemistry, great characters and a fantastic storyline!
I do love all these great stories in Susan Stoker's Special Fores and Rescuing Mercy was another perfect addition! Sexy, sizzling, brimming with just the right amount of suspense, this book was too easy to get into and very hard to put down. I was extremely fascinated with this story and enjoyed it immensely.
Rescuing Mercy gets a FANTASTIC FOUR AND A HALF SHOOTING STARS!
This is the first book I ha e read by this author. I really enjoyed her writing style, her storyline and just her overall work. This storyline is awesome!! Landon is a combat medic, who after a particularly hard mission, got sent home to help get his head on straight. Mercy, is the tough as nails, preschool administrator who stands up to Landon for how he treated her friend (his mom). I do t wanna give to much away, but this book kept meningitis the edge of my seat! I will definitely read the rest of this series!!
