Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide is a self-help guide by Gustavo Kinrys, M.D., and Alexandra Gold, M.A. that presents various ways people can work on the anxiety and stress that they deal with in their daily lives whether at work or personal life. The authors present natural tools, and remedies to deal with stressful situations considering the body, mind, and even spirituality to some extent.
One thing that I was impressed with while reading the book is the range of medical devices, nutrient-based remedies, and various herbal remedies that were discussed. Some of the content presented was thoroughly explained, with a detailed explanation of scientific principles and reasons behind the recommendations, albeit missing references to those claims. This book also provides advice on tips to improve mental performance, protect oneself from old age diseases like Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, get fit physically, remove emotional distress, and even has some spiritual component as a holistic approach to getting rid of stress and anxiety from our lives.
Despite the authors being from a credible position and most of the claims made being plausible, there were some that could have used referencing and citations. The first quadrant of the book felt almost too generalized and lacked substance. The lackluster first quadrant would bore some people to their demise as those sections for "What is stress?" or "What is fear?" and a handful of others are common knowledge unless it's for a children's book. There were typos in the material in multiple places, and the authors also used abbreviations without revealing their full forms which were non-obvious at a handful of locations. In the later sections of the book, there were mentions of "Higher Power" without caring to explain what it was. The assumption that the readers know what the authors were talking about somewhat hints at their non-committal to the very idea that they were presenting.
I would rate this book a 3 out of 5, despite its shortcomings it could still be useful for readers to find quick resources and tools to use. This is not a book that sparks curiosity in the reader however it may prove useful as a guide or to get information about nutrient-based, herbal-based, natural remedies or different forms of therapies.
Readers looking to improve their cognitive performance, and relieve their daily life of stress and anxiety and those looking for basic information on therapies, treatments, and supplements can probably benefit from the material. The content of this self-help book seems to touch a lot of areas from psychology, cognition, physiotherapy, motivation, physical fitness, etc. which has the potential to excite a range of people but that excitement would be limited as this book is not about something specific and doesn't dive deep into any of the content.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress by Gustavo Kinrys, MD is a great introduction to the science behind anxiety and using natural methods for anxiety and stress relief. Unlike many "pseudoscience" books, Kinrys' book takes a refreshingly realistic, science-backed approach to anxiety and stress. Each supplement mentioned in the book is listed alongside its potential positive effects, potential negative effects, and whether or not more research is needed on its effectiveness. I'm especially glad to see that Kinrys' states the readers should consult with their physician before taking any supplements as they can have unintended interactions with health conditions and prescription medications.
As someone who has suffered from anxiety for basically my entire life, I knew a lot of what was in this book. It discusses the fight/flight response, what causes anxiety and panic to occur, and how to combat it with natural remedies and activities such as yoga and mindfulness. However, I gleaned some new insights from this book and plan to take to heart several suggestions, including meditating for 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes at night, increasing my exercise/activity, and reframing my negative thoughts. Additionally, I plan to look into some of the supplements mentioned in the book and create a sort of self care/ anti-stress plan for myself. I highly recommend this for anyone who suffers from anxiety, whether you're newly diagnosed or have suffered from it your entire life. I give it a 4 out of 4.
Thanks to onlinebookclub.org for the book in exchange for an honest review.
This book, Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress by Gustavo Kinrys, M.D. and Alexandra Gold, M.A. is a quick guide to relieving anxiety and stress. This book takes the reader through numerous options for how to alleviate stress and anxiety symptoms caused by life events, big or small. It is important to note that while a doctor took place in writing this, it is not a substitute for professional treatment, and readers should consult their primary care physician before attempting any of these suggestions. This book teaches the reader what anxiety and stress are, then gives options for treatments, including changed diets, supplements, herbs, and activities.
I found this book to be helpful in that it did offer such a wide range of options for any reader to choose from. It thoroughly explained most of the suggestions, allowing for the reader to make an educated decision on whether or not they want to try it. The authors explained not only the benefits, but also any adverse side effects, rather than trying to hide that information. I found that very commendable, and I appreciate the transparency. They even added references at the end of the book, so the reader can continue research on their own if they so choose. I also enjoyed when the author would explain what anxiety and stress are, and how to identify symptoms of both.
However much I enjoyed this book, there were many things to make me dislike it. I am a very picky reader, and going through this sounded as if I was reading a report written by a high schooler. There were small grammatical errors such as run-on sentences, and only a small amount of typos. I personally feel that for a doctor writing this book, it did not really sound like it. I might have been able to throw something together similar to this in a couple of days. I really did not enjoy the structure of this book; it seemed to jump around in topics in a way that might pose confusing for a reader. It would even jump right into topics with no introduction, and that was extremely confusing. Not only that, but it also seemed as if it's targeted audience shifted around in certain instances. When it got to herbs and supplements, the list went on for so long that it was difficult to get through, and only at the end of the book did it provide a table for quick browsing. I would recommend anyone who reads this book to skip to the end if they are searching for information on foods, herbs, or supplements. Lastly, there were often times that I felt the book repetitive. For only ~150 pages, it felt like it took forever to get through and I think most of it had to do with a repetition of facts to possibly "beef up" the content.
With all of this put into consideration, while I found most of the suggestions to be helpful, I would rate this book a 2 out of 5 stars. I thought it was okay, but it needs to go back into editing to form it into a more cohesive and flowing book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has anxiety or stress, or even a friend or family member of someone with these conditions. As long as they are able to get past the poor format, it does offer some helpful hints. However, if they wanted to skip that, they could just google everything!

‘Ignoring the problem will not make it go away. Take control of your life today.’
Author Gustavo Kinrys, M.D. is well known for his many articles and books on treatment-resistant depression, bipolar and anxiety disorders, development of novel pharmacologic agents and diagnostic tools for mood and anxiety disorders, and applications of natural remedies and new technologies alone and combined with conventional pharmacologic therapies for treatment-refractory patients. He is a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School. Co-author Alexandra K. Gold researches in clinical psychology and psychiatry at Boston University, emphasizing novel treatments for co-occurring bipolar disorder and substance use disorders.
As the country copes with adverse effects from pharmacologic treatment of illness (including the current opioid epidemic), the role of alternative treatments such as diet supplements is growing in importance. The authors have presented a valuable resource for guidance on how to treat common anxiety and stress with vitamins, nutrients, herbs coupled with techniques of meditation, exercise, and mindfulness in a manner that is accessible and easy to incorporate into a personal regimen as treatment for both self and family members.
The Preface states the book’s intent well – ‘We all experience stress and anxiety on a regular basis. It is simply a part of our everyday lives. Both have harmful effects on your body and can contribute to high blood pressure headaches, altered moods, increased cholesterol, and the list goes on. Most people do nothing about their anxiety and stress levels because they are unaware of the impact it has on their lives…This is a practical and quick consult book containing information that is supported by medical research for individuals who prefer to try a natural solution prior to pursuing conventional treatments such as medication.’
The contents of this valuable book include a survey discussion of anxiety disorders with an excellent description of symptoms of both anxiety and depression followed by a very sound discussion of many vitamin and herbal resources in detail as well as advice on breathing exercises, diet monitoring, Yoga, exercise, acupuncture, aromatherapy, music therapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, biofeedback and more. All of this is related in accessible common language that is easy to understand and incorporate.
The tables at book’s end present nutrient-based, herbal-based, natural, and alternative remedies as well as a valuable discussion of anxiety and stress relieving foods. This is one of the finest resources for alternative medicine available – a book that belongs in everyone’s library. Highly recommended.
Anxiety and stress have always been reactions that our bodies manifest and deal with on an everyday level. How we deal with them differs from person to person. That is because each person's ability to cope with anxiety and stress results from learned responses from the past and present. The book Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide by Gustavo Kinrys M.D. and Alexandra Gold M.A. gives readers a practical guide for helping manage these stresses.
I found this book to be one of the best books on anxiety and stress. The authors covered alternative options that would be useful about this topic. Today's world is full of situations that have overtaxed our mental capacity to deal with things. Everyone is different and therefore needs to have books like this to point them in the direction that best suits them.
What I like about this book is how simple it was to follow. The authors gave clear definitions of anxiety and stress. They describe and define the different forms of mental consequences of anxiety and stress if not dealt with promptly. They show how those consequences will affect you long term if ignored and provide the symptoms of them. The different kinds of treatment are gone through clearly and grouped in easy to follow format. Nutrient, herb, exercise, and meditation are all covered extensively. Alternative therapies, as well as specialized therapies, are also included. Each is easy for readers to understand. The book's chapters cover each section separately with titles and subtitles. I found the tables at the end of the book a beneficial addition this book is user-friendly and a great asset to include in a reader's library of self-help books.
There wasn't anything that I didn't like about this book. This book is easy to follow. There were times that I wanted to return to a previous topic to read again. I found it was effortless to find that topic.
This book is an excellent reference for anyone who struggles with anxiety and stress. I recommend this book for readers who struggle with anxiety and stress and adults and teenagers 18 and older. Some of the herbal and nutrient therapies can have adverse outcomes if mixed. The authors very clearly state the dangers of that practice. The authors also recommend checking with your family physician before trying these therapies. This book provides knowledge of the struggles and possible remedies of anxiety and stress in our changing world. I found this book to be a very favorable alternative to explore.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide is a useful compilation of current recommended natural supplements and herbal remedies for combating symptoms of anxiety and depression. The current word we live in creates a chaotic breakneck pace of living that is far removed from the world of reliance on natural healing that our ancestors lived in. The numbers of people reporting symptoms of stress and seeking medical intervention are at an all time high. It is no surprise with the rising cost of healthcare and the seemingly never ending news reports of recalled pharmaceuticals or class action lawsuits resulting from irresponsible marketing of pharmaceuticals, that the demand for natural remedies is on the rise. The trouble is everyone tends to have an opinion and those opinions are unreliable as they often begin as “ I read on the internet…” or “ my great aunt use to…”. There is so much conflicting and unqualified information out there on natural anxiety and stress relief that one finds themselves seeking advice from the employees at the local natural foods store. While this may prove somewhat more reliable that the internet or great aunt Mary, often times those employees are either focused on the sale, have biased training from the producers of their products or simply are just as uneducated and confused as the rest of us. Up until now, it has felt like a shot in the dark when trying out a supplement. Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide is a game changer. Co Written by Gustavo Kinrys MD, a graduate of mayo and faculty at Harvard Med school and Alexandra Gold MA a doctoral candidate and researcher at Boston University. These authors have definitive authority on the topic, this is not written by Great Aunt Mary! The authors thoroughly detail signs and symptoms of anxiety and stress and then list known supplements and herbs that correspond to each symptom, they include possible side effects and interactions from each one. My favorite part of this book is the pull out resource tables in the back. These tables make it so easy to see which supplements and whole foods work for which specific symptoms and how they work. I simply throw them in my purse and am off to the natural store. This book is seriously a stress and anxiety sufferers best friend.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Natural Guide by Gustavo Kinrys, M.D. and Alexandra Gold, M.A. is a non-fiction self-help manual about stress and anxiety, as well as ways to alleviate some of it. The book starts by explaining what anxiety and stress are. From this, the book goes into the pills associated with dealing with anxiety. I found this to be odd since the book should be all about the natural remedies, but the first remedies shown are medications that are not natural.
Your health needs to be a priority, and that is a central theme throughout this book. During these times this year, everyone is facing more stress than expected as a side effect of the Covid-19 outbreak. Whether you are dealing with everyday stress or generalized anxiety disorder, the authors want you to have ways to take care of yourself and get the help you need, so that these stresses are not taking over your life.
Another thing that the authors go into depths about is diet. It lists foods that you should consume more of, depending on the problems you are facing, and foods to avoid. It even goes so far as to have a grocery list in the book's appendix to make sure that you can access it easily when you need to relieve your stress more. I also like that there are tables in the appendix to review all of the methods, medicines, and treatments discussed and how those remedies work as a small recap.
The part that I disliked most is that this book reads a little like a psychology textbook, though, instead of just a manual. Although it is not written in all medical terms, there were still several words that I could not find in my kindle dictionary, which may be problematic to some readers. Another thing that I found odd was that the authors discuss things and their processes behind them. An example of this is that chamomile is used as a calming effect and is used for treatments involving stomach problems, going into detail about how the flowers are dried and steeped and making them into tea.
I would recommend this book to anyone dealing with anxiety problems and are trying to determine which methods best suited for you. I believe that it would be beneficial for anyone dealing with the stresses of life to help find helpful solutions.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide by Gustavo Kinrys provides several natural ways to lessen stress and anxiety. The author focused on herbs, psychosocial, and natural solutions to stress. This book is well-edited.
In addition, the book breaks down what anxiety is and offers valuable tools and practices to aid you in relieving anxiety. Finally, Dr. Kinrys discusses the seriousness of stress and how stress affects your body.
The author discusses alternative therapies like acupuncture and more traditional ones like cognitive behavioral therapy. Some of the natural remedies in this book are costly (for example, herbs), but there are accessible stress relief tips, like meditation, listening to music, and exercise.
The author doesn't just tell you to exercise or use this remedy. Instead, they explain how the brain and body work and why and how the natural treatment works.
This is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to lessen their anxiety. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I particularly like that Dr. Kinrys mentioned scientific studies for some alternative treatments. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with anxiety and looking for natural ways to deal with it. This book offers so many techniques that most people will find one that works for them. In addition, this book can work with some pharmaceuticals (check with your healthcare provider, as the author says often). So, it's not you must only use a natural remedies book. You can use this book to complement what your doctor says to do.
I wish the author had named some of the best apps for stress. There are so many apps out there, and it would be helpful to know which apps the author, a doctor, would recommend. Also, many apps have free versions, so having this knowledge would have been extremely helpful, but I understand that the author does not want to promote specific apps.
I found this book a great reference book and easy to read. There is also a quick reference table at the end of the book, which is excellent if you want a brief overview of a remedy. I will recommend this book to others.
This book has so much information. Be prepared to go back to this book many times.
“Ignoring the problem will not make it go away. Take control of your life today!” As someone who experiences, sometimes severe, daily anxiety I found Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress, by Gustavo Kinrys & Alexandra Gold to be very insightful. Due to the easy-to-read facts from affordable methods of defeating anxiety, to natural herbs and resources I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. Even with no medical training or prior knowledge, this guide was not difficult to follow or comprehend. A couple things that triggers people to suffer from anxiety is the fear of judgement or not being understood, both of these things truly being opposite experiences of this book. The soothing words and explanations from Gustavo and Alexandra will make you feel as if they genuinely have your best interest at heart, which not all of us have experienced before. The way they explain the many different types of phobias and anxiety feels sensitive and inclusive. One of the best things about this guide is the wide variety of coping suggestions for many different kinds and triggers of anxiety. Even having a chapter dedicated to prescription medication, even though it is a book mainly based on natural measures. Helpful suggestions are mentioned like replacing the term “anxiety” with “fear” to help normalize the condition, along with positive self talk, and the rubber band method. All being easy to obtain and affordable for people of any age that experience anxiety. Dietary recommendations are listed in easy-to-read chapters and bullet point lists to help put you on the right track for healing at home. Right down to a supplied ‘grocery store list’ that you can bring with you to help purchase the correct dairy, meat/fish, grain, vegetable, fruit, bean, nut/seed based protein, and oil products! If you do not have access to an all natural and organic market there are things listed you can find at any local grocery store; adding to the inclusivity! This is a wonderful guide to have due to the well organized Appendix at the end of the book for quick reference. Listing foot notes of nutrient, herbal, natural, and alternative based remedies. Even though this is a very informative and generous book it is still recommended you speak to your primary physician before trying any of the remedies mentioned to make sure you are doing what is best for your mind, body, and soul. They are all connected, and can be equally effected by anxiety and remedies alike.
Wow! Fabulous reference for those suffering from anxiety and stress!
This is an exhaustive reference book for those searching for a non-chemical strategy for anxiety or stress. I really appreciated the even-handed style the authors showed toward all the methods they catalogued here. It's an impressive listing that includes several methods like music therapy that most medical professionals wouldn't even consider, and also includes warnings for those methods that can be used in excess. There are chapters on everything from the actual symptoms of stress and anxiety and their effects on the body, to nutritional guidance, herbal remedies and relaxation methods, to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and yoga. Alternative therapies such as acupuncture, biofeedback and even Transcranial Magnetic Therapy (this was a new one to me) are covered in good detail, and in each case the authors add appropriate cautions where needed. If you're interested in relieving your symptoms and want to try something that's not 'off-the-shelf' at the doctor's office, this book has a choice that will suit you. If you're looking for a quick guide, there are handy charts in the back. They're organized into types of remedies such as nutrient-based, herbal-based, natural and alternative remedies, and anxiety and stress relieving foods. These get you pointed in the right direction for your individual situation, and they're just as well organized as the rest of this book. There's even a shopping list to take to the grocery store to make sure you get all the nutritional support you need in one trip! The only thing I didn't like was that the authors tend to be repetitive, but it's a small fault in a really impressive volume. I highly recommend this as a reference for anyone suffering from stress or anxiety (which seems be include a LOT of us) that's up-to-date and open-minded.

Natural Relief For Anxiety And Stress By Gustavo Kinrys. This book was awesome and completely relatable. I would definitely recommend this book to my family and friends. There was no typos, perfect diction and it was short and sweet. This is a 100% 5 out of 5 stars because it helps people such as myself detect and understand our mental health better as well as how to deal with it, the do's and do not's.What I completely enjoyed about this book is that it was completely straight to the point,no getting sidetracked by anything just straight to the point. In addition to that this book not only telling us our causes and solutions to stress but aswell as indirectly giving us a message that these things are kind of normal but also boosting our will power to keep going, atleast in the way I see it. It also includes the silly choices we make while under stress and this book teaches is that stress, its all just a simple mind game at times which is mostly lead by overthinking to cause tension,as well as how to deal with it long term,to keep it to a minimum internal disaster. It also highlights the problems of addictions to medication which is actually a very big problem nowadays, therefore it also says that there are non addictive medications which are there because some people don't take stress tablets in fear of addictions. They just internally suffer as they feel they have nowhere to go. Though, thankfully this book has given us enough knowledge to know that we can get over this phase of stress easier and more peacefully then we think, yes it will start off rocky but we will get to that point of realizing that we can control our own life and path. It is a definite recommendation.
Physical or mental stress and anxiety seem to be part of daily life. A little bit of stress, off and on, is not a bad thing. The problem is when the stress is chronic. This book offers ways to combat it.
Anxiety can manifest itself in many different symptoms, ranging from chest pain to dry mouth to sleep disorders to depression. The book talks about the common symptoms of stress and fear.
There are a number of nutrient-based supplements that are available, including lysine, magnesium, melatonin and omega-3 fatty acids. There are also a lot of herbal-based remedies available, including chamomile, ginkgo biloba, lemon balm, lavender and valerian root. Don't forget about other natural remedies, including deep breathing, choosing the right foods, staying hydrated and exercise.
These therapies may lessen, or eliminate, the effects of your anxiety, but they won't do anything for whatever is causing the anxiety. That might call for yoga or acupuncture, meditation or biofeedback. If the cause of your anxiety is a phobia, you might need cognitive behavioral therapy.
As with anything medical, a trip to your local doctor is a very good idea. The book also includes a shopping list of fruits and vegetables that will help reduce the effects of your anxiety. This book is short, and very easy to read and understand. For those suffering from constant stress or anxiety, the "answer" may be right here.
I received a copy of of this book from OnlineBookClub.org in exchange for an honest review.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide by Gustavo Kinrys, MD and Alexandra Gold, MA, is non-fiction book that covers various natural techniques for dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression. The book covers the different symptoms related to these conditions, then transitions into various remedies for these conditions. Behavioral thinking, supplements, and breathing techniques are just a few of the techniques covered.
I really loved the section on thinking distortions. The authors covered here types of thinking that tend to be harmful to well-being and cause personal distress. As someone who is familiar with CBT, I was familiar with some of the terms, but really enjoyed having it all in one spot. I think this will be highly helpful to anyone with anxiety that tries to journal through their emotions or break down their thinking. I also found the Appendix at the back of the book to be excellent! It breaks down all remedies covered into type and what they are beneficial for.
Despite these positive aspects, I did find that the book lacked any information that was truly new to me. A lot of these concepts have been written about in great detail and it did not provide much that was original. The writing at times felt unprofessional to me and some of the claims seemed unsupported. For example, the authors write that “sufficient magnesium intake by the American population would likely reduce health care costs by billions of dollars (pg 45).” This seems like an outlandish claim. The author then continues on without providing further explanation. There were also various points of the book with typos or grammatical errors. For example, on page 45, the authors list “fish” twice in foods containing L-arginine.
I am rating this book 2 out of 5 stars. While there was some useful information, the book lacked originality. It did not feel professionally written and did not fully support its claims.
This book may be good for those newly facing stress and anxiety and those unfamiliar with the concepts of mindfulness, breathing techniques, and CBT. Because the section on thought distortions was so comprehensive and helpful, I would also recommend it to those facing anxiety and depression who are looking to challenge their thought processes. I may not recommend it for those more familiar with the practices of managing anxiety and stress, as much of the information will not be new, surprising, or interesting. However, to those readers that are familiar already but are interested in these techniques, it could be a useful reference book, but not a book to read fully through.
Beyond Conquering Your Stress & Fears Dr. Kinrys along with Dr. Gold tackle more natural options for dealing with Anxiety and Stress. This self-book is a practical guide is formulated as an easy format to try natural solutions over pursuing conventional treatments like pharmaceutical medications. It is pointed out that there is both positive and negative stress which one you personally experience depends on your own unique experience of the tension between the strain from the conflict between our external environment and us. I found that they do not try to make you feel that this unique way our own personal fears and stress tackle our lives does not change that others suffer also. This short one hundred fifty-five page self-help book has a lot of bang for your buck. The references for herbal and mineral supplements alone saves you tons of time and stress finding ways all the possible supplements to help you outside of traditional drugs. I read Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress after reading Dr. Kinrys book Conquering Your Stress & Fears and I found the information completely unique to both books. I found the information invaluable and even though I do not suffer from an anxiety disorder useful to help me with my occasional anxiety.
Gustavo Kinrys, M.D., and Alexandra Gold, M.A.'s book "Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress" is an excellent resource for anyone attempting to understand the nuances of stress, anxiety, and fear. Without holding back, this book delves straight into defining these feelings and outlining potential symptoms.Best feature? It provides a comprehensive strategy. It takes the time to explain scientific and medicinal aspects, rather than just throwing medical jargon at you. It also discusses the importance of physical elements like diet and exercise, as well as psychological practises like meditation. They even discuss complementary therapies like acupuncture. They don't end there; the book also teaches you how to identify "common cognitive distortions" and fear. One thing that's refreshing about the book is its simplicity. It is much easier to read because it condenses those medical topics into bite-sized bullet points. It also includes a grocery list that includes foods that can reduce stress and anxiety. Additionally, and this is quite useful, there is an appendix with tables for future reference. I give this book a 4 star rating.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide by Gustavo Kinrys MD is a great, simple to use guide that provides alternatives to conventional methods of treatment for the anxiety and stress in your life. Most people experience stress, and many don't want to take dangerous drugs that can become addictive. Dr. Kinrys offers effective solutions for those looking into different options. The book outlines many of the symptoms of stress and anxiety from chest pain to sleep disorders. Often people dismiss these symptoms without looking for a root cause. However, with this clear and concise book, you can find some answers to dealing with your anxiety or stress in an effective manner. One of the best suggestions in the book is to simply write everything down, this will put some distance between you and your thoughts. Sometimes delaying thinking about a troublesome thought until later is an effective strategy in dealing with worry. Overall, a helpful book that will guide you on the path to less stress and anxiety in your life.
Just finished reading Anxiety And Stress: A Practical Guide. I gotta say that this book took me a long while to read. I usually burn through books very quickly and have no problem staying focused, but I think due to the nature and subject of this book I had a more difficult time burning through it quickly. That being said however I feel like that was okay. I really soaked this book in. I think I gave myself permission to absorb this book slowly, which also helped me in ways I think the author intended.
Obviously this book is meant to aid in improving your lifestyle in terms of managing stress and anxiety. I can say that it will definitely help. And why not it a try? That's what I thought. It couldn't hurt. And it did end up helping.

This practical guide explains the symptoms of anxiety, anxiety disorders, and stress. Throughout the book, the authors provide several natural treatment and prevention options for these conditions. These options include nutrient-based, herbal-based, natural, and alternative remedies, various forms of therapies, and dietary suggestions.
This was an informative, educational, and enlightening book. I enjoyed reading the book and was not overwhelmed by the information presented. I think everyone could benefit from reading this book. My overall rating of this book is 3 out of 4 stars. In truth, this book is worthy of the fourth star, but the book does require professional editing. If professionally edited, I would gladly award the fourth star to this book.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide is a comprehensive book outlining the nervous system under stress. There are many ailments a person can feel under stress that mimic more serious health risks. Dr. Gustavo Kinrys has graduated and taught at some of the most prestigious medical schools in the country, while Alexandra Gold is known for her impressive research work in bipolar and substance use disorders. Together they wrote an excellent book on how to identify and diminish anxiety in your life.
What I like about Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress is the authors recognizes the use of too many drugs used for treatment which causes more problems and look for an answer without using drugs if possible. The most common drugs used to combat anxiety and stress are additive. Getting to the root problem and correcting from there is explained often in this book, not only understanding yourself but others is also a key in find a solution to stress.
This book gave some good information on ways you can naturally help reduce stress and anxiety. It had a lot of information about chemicals in the foods and supplements. That part was interesting, but I was really interested in the stress management tips/strategies. Most of the information is what you would expect to read, concepts like eating healthier, getting rest and exercise, meditating, and avoiding negative thought bubbles. My only concern is that making so many significant changes in a person's life can also cause stress and anxiety. Just thinking about how to achieve so many goals to relieve stress causes me...stress. Yes, these things are great and useful but trying to follow a whole new regiment or trying to change too much at once is a road to more anxiety if not done right. A chapter about how to maneuver effectively into these strategies would have been very beneficial...ideas of where to start or how to start small and ramp up.
I have been taking medication for anxiety for several years, recently I have had to stop taking them because of the terrible side effects. My anxiety was at an all-time high and I needed to do something so I started looking at lifestyle changes to deal with it, my search led me to this book and all I can say is that I am very impressed. I have never had any counselling for my condition, so I really didn’t understand it. This book gives you insight into the main causes of anxiety, the symptoms and understanding panic attacks which I suffer from often. It teaches you that diet plays a role in anxiety and what you need to eat to combat it. The book highlights herbal based remedies as well as breathing and relaxation exercises you can do when you start feeling anxious. I have applied all the techniques laid out in the book and I can honestly say that I feel less anxious and much more relaxed in general. I highly recommend this book.
As someone who has dealt with anxiety most of my life I have always sought more natural methods of dealing. I really enjoyed reading through these natural methods some of which I already use with success and others are new and will make into my routine to maintain control over my anxiety without the use of pharmaceutical based methods that can actually make the problem worse. I liked that the authors highlight and share signs and symptoms of anxiety and stress for those who may not realize that is what they are struggling with. I really like that this book talks about using diet to help control anxiety and the affects of stress. I’ve used diet to help with my anxiety for years, avoiding processed food, sticking to real food, good fats, proteins and greens. It has helped substantially with maintaining an even keel in my life.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A Practical Guide is the second self-help book on managing stress and anxiety that I've read by this author, Dr. Kinrys. Here again, as in Conquering Your Stress and Fears, the focus is on natural, herb and vitamin based treatments rather than the more common pharmaceutical route. In this book though, he goes so far as to prescribe dosages and there are even more techniques elaborated on. Suggestions such as acupuncture, meditation, aromatherapy, music and noise therapy and even virtual reality therapy. I appreciate the wide range of ideas he explores and how thoroughly he is able to get without smothering the reader in jargon and medical terminology.

Everyone at least once in his life experienced stress. After all, our life is full of extreme, difficult situations, competition and it is very difficult to be calm in these conditions. I can say that in the book I found a lot of useful and interesting information, it opened the “doors” for me to another world. Now, when I feel that I will soon panic, I read some tips from the book or just remember some. I liked that everything is extremely clear and understandable, and it’s not written in complex language, like in some books. I really advice everyone especially if you need help with understanding hoe to cope with stress and after that you’ll be thankful to authors, your life will be different. Highly recommended!

This is a well-written book concerning the management of stress and anxiety. It had simple, straightforward definitions of terms and offered good examples of what different symptoms may look like for different people. The only negative thing that stood out to me was the lack of in-text citations/references. In a work that is referencing a lot of different studies, research, and medical reports, the lack of any sort of reference or citation letting the reader know where that information originated is a bit problematic. It certainly makes me wary of taking every statement at face value. Overall this is a good read and would be beneficial to anyone interested in managing stress/anxiety, anyone looking for positive practices to add to their lifestyle, and people who prefer to try natural remedies.
Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress: A practical guide is a pretty good book to have at your disposal. We all have hectic lives nowadays and it’s so easy to get lost in it and it really affects our mood and our mental and physical health. But if you feel it’s just something that is happening in your life or if you need an extra boost, take a look at this book. Not only it displays a lot of useful information regarding food, meditation, and exercises but it’s also very clear on dosages and how to prepare them. It’s very interesting and informative reading and I’m sure everyone will find it helpful.
