Dara Winters has always liked her best friend Bailey’s older brother, but it isn’t until the day Jack walks into her special needs ranch that he starts to steal her heart.
Jack McBride lost his wife several years ago, and he hasn’t been ready to meet another woman until Dara.
Truth is, she’s always been there. As his younger sister’s best friend, Dara has been around as long as he can remember. So how is he’s just now noticing this beautiful woman with fire, spirit, and a kind heart who attracts him like a magnet?
Jack’s daughter wants no part of another woman in his life. He doesn’t know what to do with his daughter’s actions and anger.
What he needs to figure out is how to bring together his daughter and the woman he loves.
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
Wild for You is the fourth book in Cheyenne McCray’s Riding Tall 2 series, and this one finds widower Jack McBride suddenly attracted to his little sister’s long time friend, Dara. Dara and Jack have known each other for 15 years, but Jack was married with two children, so Dara was never on his radar, other than being a troublesome teenager who encouraged the wildness in his sister Bailey.
Like a sudden bolt of lightning, Jack has unexpectedly realised that this charming, vibrant and caring young woman, could possibly be the warmth to fill void in his life, left by the death of his wife, 5 years earlier. But teenagers are the supreme definition of emotional turmoil, and Jack’s 16 year-old daughter isn’t ready for Jack to move forward and find new love with anyone, but especially not her employer.
Wild for You describes the difficulties of youthful resistance perfectly, but also shows the wonder of a parent’s love and understanding, while standing firm about life and its uncontrollable curve balls. Dara is exceedingly sweet, and her calling in life is a testament of her exceptional nature; and while I sometimes found her dialogue too syrupy, the overall character development was good and a realistic timeframe was formed before the physical aspect of their relationship transpired. Jack, well what can I say; he is like all the McBrides in his steadfast loyalty, protectiveness of those he loves, and one damn sexy cowboy to boot.
So, if you’re looking for a wonderful feel good story, with angst, laughs, real life moments and a sweet, (oh, it gets hotter) romance, then this is definitely a story for you. Ms McCray is undeniably one of my “Go to” authors, and have no reservations about recommending all her books. So grab one today and happy reading!
This is a great addition to a very good series. I love the vast McBride family, ranchers, rodeo riders and law enforcement something for everyone. Five years after his wife died Jack McBride knows it’s time to move forward with his life. When he sees Dara Winters for more then a passing hello it sparks a feeling he thought was long gone. Dara has always thought Jack was a handsome man she’s known him most of her life since his sister is her best friend. In the passing years Jack was married and she was off to college. Now they are faced with a chance at a new love. Jack and Dara had instant chemistry and a romance that was quick to form but grew over time to become a love of a lifetime. There’s enough room in your heart for more people, never give up on love.
This book is painfully boring and has way too many descriptions and step by step explanations of what the characters are doing. I only made it a few chapters but I feel like it might have been better if read as part of the series, I felt like I jumped into a movie that was already started. The writing style was bad enough that I have no interest in starting from the beginning. Even though there are tons of tiny details none of them were of any importance. I felt like I was supposed to already know the MCs, even though some details were given it just wasn’t right. And to top it off there were lots of names thrown out with no indication who some of them were as well as a wrong name used for a character in the first chapter. No thanks.
This is my first book by this author. I more than likely won't continue reading the other books. The book didn't have a whole lot going on and got boring at times. It also had a lot of unnecessary details and got a little too sappy at times. The one incident that had some excitement didn't last long and it was used as a way for the daughter to finally come into accepting the relationship unfolding in the book. The secret Jack was holding inside about his deceased wife didn't follow through on anything. I kept thinking it would be brought up again to wrap into the story but it wasn't mentioned again. This book just wasn't up my alley.
Normally a huge thriller fan and voracious reader of same, I've been on a romance kick since summer. All the romance. Sweet, middle heat, and sliding into erotica with some BDSM thrown in. I've learned to overlook grammatical and punctuation errors as long as the storytelling is solid and the prose is (mostly) well-written. But even the sweet stories need angst to pull me through and make me wonder what's going to happen next, make me fall in love with and root for the couple.
Skimming all the 5-star reviews here, it appears I'm a rebel, but this book ...
Let me put out the positives first.
Jack is a gentleman and slowly leads them into the romance, while Dara is the one gungho to get things moving along. And I'm talking bedroom action. When they finally get together, he doesn't disappoint. But Dara is also understanding about Jack's witchy daughter. It's a prickly situation that Dara handles with grace. Kudos to her. Unfortunately, that's about 90% of the tension in this entire book.
Other than the angry daughter storyline, the author should have stayed close to the wise advice of Elmore Leonard: leave out the boring parts. Because there are way too many boring parts to list. Everyone is too perfect. There's little tension and simply too much mundane dialogue of greetings and introductions and everyday nothingness, let alone repetition of dialogue about what just happened that also amounted to ... nothing.
A potential conflict regarding the now-dead wife was glossed over, as if to convince the reader, Well, look here, she wasn't so perfect after all and this is the perfect place for a little conflict, so, that box is checked. SMDH.
The ending was cute, then rushed, and BAM! I felt cheated. There should have been more. Oh, wait. There could have been more if all the boring parts had been cut.
Will definitely not be reading another book by this author.
Book four in the Riding Tall 2 series has big brother Jack McBride a widow with a sixteen year old daughter and thirteen year old son. Jack has a little secret, his marriage wasn’t as strong as most think. It has been five year, maybe it’s time…
Jack is headed to go pick up his daughter Leslie from her after school job where Dara, his sister Bailey’s best friend works. He has know Dara forever but wow, has Dara always been that beautiful? Suddenly sparks are going off like the Fourth of July. It must have been obviously because suddenly Leslie asks her dad if he misses her mom.
Jack and Dara go out for drinks then it is every weekend dating. Leslie is not happy and feels her dad is betraying her mom. Yes, she is being a brat. Max is totally cool with Dara. She is Aunt Bailey’s best friend. Plus he’s a boy, what does he know? Jack takes the relationship slow, how gentlemanly of him not to rush things.
Both Jack and Dara admit they are in love but only to themselves. Leslie is really not happy. That changes the night of a big storm. Great addition to this series. I wish you could order a McBride man from Amazon, they are awesome.
There's a story here but the storytelling is pretty bad. And speaking of telling, there was a whole lot of that, instead of showing. The dialogue was stilted and unrealistic, and some actions were not described well, one in particular was unconvincing () There was just the one conflict involving the daughter, and things were all a little dull. I will admit I skimmed through most of the book. I could get the gist of the story without concentrating as nothing about it was exceptional.
An instalove romance with lots of emotions. Jack is a single dad who falls for his little sister's best friend, but his teenage daughter is very angry at him for even thinking about dating even though his wife died five years ago. Dana had a crush on Jack when she was young and never thought he would give the a chance but here they are all these years later falling in love. The McBride family is full of gorgeous cowboys who are gentleman and thoughtful and extremely sexy.
I like that Jack and Dara have known each other for so long. What with him being her best friend’s brother. The ten year difference in age isn’t really a factor now except for his teenage children. Who, of course, are divided as to their acceptance of Dara for their father’s girlfriend. Angst rules this tale, but it is very thoughtfully presented and I will always love Ms.McCray’s writing style.
Dara Winters runs a program for special needs children and loves what she does. When her brothers childhood friend comes to pick up his daughter who works for Dara he realizes he wants to take Dara out on a date. Jack McBride is a widowed father of 2 who is looking to get back in a relationship and feels Dara is the right one. Such a sweet friends to lovers romance!
Loved this book. It’s funny how life changes and suddenly you see someone differently for the first time. A sexy cowboy and a woman who can stand on her own make for a great love story. This could have gone on for several more chapters but I loved what was written and look forward to the next book in this series.
I enjoyed this book. Loved how quickly Jack starts to fall for Dara. He’s a widower and she’s his younger sister’s best friend. Did have some tears at one point. Will his daughter ever accept his relationship with Dara? Happy to say there’s a happy ever after.
This was such a good story. I am a sucker for a romance where the heroine falls for her best friends brother. Plus, the hero is a single father. I mean how often do you get 2 of your favorite types of stories all rolled into one. Dara and Jack kept me wanting to read more.
Cheyenne McCray really knows how to deliver in the best possible way.I couldn't put this one down.I was sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen from the beginning to the end.
I loved the chemistry in this story. Especially the element of working with special needs young adults learning to succeed. Data and Jack had some very real issues revolving in their relationship. Definitely had me cheering them on. Outstanding book!
Loved it! Such a sweet romance story that was well written! Wonderful characters that are easy to fall in love with. A lot of emotions in this book! You have laughter, happiness, anger, sadness, drama and love! Can't wait to read more in this series! A Must Add To Your TBR list!
Dara had known Jack for years as her older brother's friend and her best friend's older brother. She had known and liked his wife until she died 5 years ago. Now she had to get his children to accept her into their family.
A cowboy who you can check all the boxes. He can two step. Loves kids.of course he has two of them. Heather one home. Can cook and take care of him home. The kids help out to. Oh he comes from a very big family. Who she happens to love and know
Dara and Jack have know each other forever but it’s only now that really sees Dara. She had crushed on him for along time. Their growing love sees complications and some bumps.
I was concerned when reading earlier reviews. Many people don't care for his daughter. I liked her because I understood her angst about the death of her mother and then her father dating. Yes there were some areas I skimmed but overall I enjoyed this read.
Really enjoyed all five of the Montgomery siblings. It was disappointing when I got to the end. I got all 5 them read very quickly as I finished one I had to start on the next one.I'm
Jack McBride is a father of two teenagers who wife died five years ago. Dara Winters has been around the McBride most of her life being friends with the only girl in the family of four older brothers. Great story and great read!😊😁
The story got lost in the very and I mean very boring details. For example he uses a press for the garlic instead of dicing it. And a list what goes into mac and cheese and the not diced garlic So I gave up in the second chapter. And no I won’t skip to end because I just don’t care.
