You don’t have to do everything on the list to live your best life.
Swap FOMO for JOMO and tick off ‘Bucket’, ’ F*ck it’ or ‘Done it’ for each of the 3,669 things to do, depending on whether you intend to do it, couldn’t care less/would rather die than do it or have already accomplished it.
Bucket, F*ck it or Done it. Which box would you tick when it comes to … ?
* Drinking banana wine in the Canary Islands * Eating every shape of pasta at least once * Settling a dispute with a dance-off * Naming your boat after the person you lost your virginity to
Sara Kinninmont is a writer, non-practicing slut, outdoor unenthusiast, and yoga hater based in Vancouver, Canada. When not writing about food, sex or travel, she can be found keeping a running tally of strangers who tell her she “looks just like the chick from Weeds.” Currently, the self-described hedonist divides her time between adding to her own Bucket/F*ck It List, creating a TV show with a local director and tirelessly advocating on behalf of maligned Scorpios everywhere.
Normally, we reviewers tend to start with how we receive free copies of books and it doesn't affect our opinions or some such nonsense. In this case, I would like to let people know I am completely and utterly biased as I have worked with the author for years and she is one of my favourite people. Moving swiftly on...
This is not a novel. This is not a critical work of non-fiction (actually, maybe it is). This is just plain fun. What it is is an alternative bucket list. People's bucket list seems to be "I want to skydive naked" or "I want to Bungie jump with the cord attached to my testicles" (maybe not that one). Instead, this is 3669 ideas for you to try instead of the assumed norm. Many of the ideas are really cool, most are hilarious, and many you've probably done already. There are handy checkboxes to the left of each suggestion (Bucket/F*ck it/Done it) so you can tick the ones you like.
If you really want criticism, there was some repetition, although I thought adding "Experience Deja Vu" twice was genius. Also, some people may have preferred having sections like "Travel" and so forth, but I think they would miss the true pleasure of reading this.
This book was hilarious. It’s not really a book but potato, potato?
As a certified Aggressive Bucket Lister I thrilled to go through this, gleefully checking off things I’ve done, adding things I wanted to do to my list, etc. Because this author (who is VERY FUNNY) never intended anyone, even me, to go through and use it as an actual bucket list, I had to HAND NUMBER all 350 pages so I could keep track of items I want to return to to check off later. They should just number the damn pages next time they print it so people like me who take it Very Very Seriously can be spared the trouble.
In the back there are useful pages to include your own items but I used them to create chunked lists from the book to refer to as I travel to different places.
I halfway added this to my Amazon list as a joke, but lo and behold, someone bought it for me as a gift. I found this book to be hilarious. I was even surprised that, while going through it, I noticed just how many of these things I have already done. Some are obviously there for a good laugh, but some are actually pretty good ideas. At any rate, it is a book that I will never complete but I will have a lot of fun checking as many off as I can.
Perfectly fine. A list of things to do, or not to do. Whichever. Prompted me to look some things up, and did inspire a chuckle here and there. Perhaps inspired to try some of the things from the book, but it would be madness to attempt more than a couple on any given page. Good luck to any completionists out there who pick this up.
This is not a book😅, but it's immensely fun and I cannot wait to read it again and maybe make a list with things to focus on for the next few months or so.
