More complete characters

The characters felt more complete and central to the story rather than in the previous books. It was probably the distraction of trying to understand the nature of true dragons and the powers.

I love the solid historical underpinning of all her books. This book is no different in that regard. I still want to find out the origins of the dragons, half dragons and powers.

This has been an excellent historical fiction series. I thought the fantasy elements, powers and dragons, emphasized the relationships among the 'great houses' and highlighted, in particular, the patriotism of István Eszterházy.
