William Harold "Bill" Strutton was a screenwriter and novelist from South Australia. He worked on some of the best-remembered 1960s television shows including Ivanhoe, The Saint, The Avengers, Riptide and Doctor Who.
4.5 stars. Five classic Doctor Who stories from different read of the show are presented under the alien worlds collection. The Zarbi a first doctor story with Ian, Barbara and Vicki visiting the planet Vortis. The story is ambitious and works better as a audiobook than the TV managed, the story has great creatures and a dark edge. William Russell does a fine job with the narration and his remembrance of acting in the story at the end is fascinating. Curse of Peladon is one of the better of the exile period of the third doctor era with the Doctor and Jo landing of the planet Peladon during a crisis. The creatures are again inventive and the story works really well. David Troughton who played Peladon does a fine job with the narration. Brain of Morbius is a Frankenstein inspired story from the fourth Doctor with a mad scientist, a creature, a Time Lord Criminal and a coven of witches. It is one of my favourite stories of the period although some of the horror and shock elements are glossed over a little. Tom Baker does an excellent job with the narration. The Leisure Give is a late fourth Doctor story and probably the weakest of the collection. It is a light hearted story with some nice ideas but the characters are a little weak. Lalla Ward does do a great job on the narration Greatest Show on the Galaxy is one of the better seventh Doctor stories with a heavy circus theme, lots of great descriptions , entertaining characters and A good creepy feel. Sophie Aldred is excellent as narrator.
