Whether you are looking for humor, nostalgia, just plain fun or a real grabber, this book is filled with delicious anecdotes. My story, "Shopping For Dancing Shoes" was about the last time I was able to take my mother shopping. It is the first story in the book.

I'm just finishing up Chicken Soup for the Shopper's Soul. Funny, I don't even like to shop so even though I love the Chicken Soup series, this one was a stretch for me. I was pleasantly surprised with the stories and as always with these stories that celebrate our eccentricities and life, there were some vignettes that touched my soul.

I laughed and reminisced with glee at Tsgoyna Tansman tale of trying to stuff flabby flesh that has gone south or in some cases north, into a sheath. The sales person assures this skeptical shopper that there are shapers in foundations that will conceal the wayward bulges. She in turn insists what she needs is a girdle, call it what you want, but it's a girdle and only a girdle will do. Where the delight came for me while reading A Girdle by Any Other Name is my mom's insistence on wearing hers. She never and I mean never went anywhere without one! It was as much a part of her attire as say, the smock she wore to keep her clothes clean while doing daily chores. As much as I tried to get her to let it all hang out, she declined. If she were here I'd share this story with her.

Another, brought home to me that just because we get older, we're not out of the game. Carol McAdoo Rehme's In the Sack, relates the story of taking her Grandma shopping to none other than Frederick's of Hollywood.. Carol wondered if her gram knew what was sold there but was assured in no uncertain terms that Grandma Vic had all her marbles. It seems that she and Grampa would be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary and that she wanted something to surprise her guy. "I might be old and broken, but I'm not dead. I need a new nightie something...suggestive, and I want to buy it here. At Frederick's." Love is not just for the young!

Suzanne Baginskie got far more than she bargained for as is told in A Special Holiday Bargain. The day after Christmas finds her at the mall, tired and needing a break. Flopping down on a bench, a little girl skips up to her, introduces herself and then her Grandpop, Kyle. Within minutes, Kyle clutches his chest and falls to the ground and Suzanne begins CPR. The paramedics arrive and Suzanne comforts the grandchild until the mother arrives. Though a close call, the quick action of Suzanne probably saved Kyle's life. Two days later, Suzanne visits Kyle in the hospital. As a way of thanks he invites Suzanne to dinner. She accepts and friendship soon turns into wedding bells. What a wonderful story!

The perfect gift, that great bargain, the cherished find, the kindness of strangers, all of this and much more...Chicken Soup for the Shopper's Soul, another winner and will warm your heart.

Chicken Soup for the Shopper's Soul
- Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Theresa Peluso

"𝓑𝓾𝔂 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓑𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓮𝓿𝓮 𝓘𝓷"

Just like the title, this book is one of a kind. We all shop. Some as a necessity, some for leisure, some as a therapy and some for their loved ones.

This book has described the history of shopping. It is a compilation of shopping experiences of various people, exploring all types of shopping - from garage sales to stores and from catalogue shopping to online shopping. This book makes the reader realize that people don't shop just for the sake of it, each item brought, be it for personal use or as a gift, has a story, an emotion and a feeling attached to it. Each shopping experience is unique in itself. The following excerpt will make one understand the thoughtfulness of a shopoholic :

"You see, shoes are more than just a piece of footwear - they are a companion. At first, the friendship might be a little awkward, as you are breaking in the sole, but before long, the shoes become a part of you, going everywhere you do - whether just to the supermarket or across the world. And in the end, just like every shopper, every shoe holds a story, and every sole holds an essence. - Pg 75"

What I liked the most about this book is that each shopping experience begins with a quote which depicts the theme of the story and is a thoughtful snippet for the reader.

Just like chicken soup is the soul food for non - vegetarians, this book is the soul food for shopoholics!

I've read many Chicken Soup books, but didn't know this one existed until I saw it on the shelf at the discount store. As a fan of shopping, this one certainly appealed to me. A book all about people's shopping experiences may seem dull, but this might be my favorite of the Chicken Soup books. I like funny stories, I like heartwarming stories, and I like stories that I could live, and all of that was in here.
I won't lie, there was at least one story in here about the dilemma faced when shopping for a gift for a person whose time on Earth is limited, and it made me cry as I read it before work because in this Christmas season, we know it will be the last with my grandfather, so stories like that really hit home.
The story that sticks out the most, for no particular reason, is one about a young girl whose grandmother sends her to the store for some beef for dinner, but the girl twice brings unsatisfactory product home to her gradmother.

I don't think I would have normally picked this up, but with all my cyber Monday shopping, it made me laugh and so I did. Besides I have always appreciated a great deal. It is how I was brought up and still am.

I don't consider myself a great shopper, but I appreciate a good bargain, and I think this book was. Chicken soup might be getting a little carried away with all of its stories, and still I guess it is nice to have a variety. I wouldn't recommend reading all of these at once because it does get a little bit tedious after a while unless you are a born shopaholic, but if you are, you will not be reading all that much. You will be shopping.

My favorite part of this book was the section on customer service and those stories. I think we really need to focus on those traits again because it seems like our society has completely forgotten what that is all about.

One of my best friends (a fellow shopaholic) gave me this book as part of my birthday present. I'd never read a "Chicken Soup" book before, but knew to expect uplifting stories. I got those stories with some life lessons thrown in...all wrapped up in a shopping theme. Cute, if you're into those sorts of reads.

This book was a really cute read. The reading was light and not time-consuming, which allowed me to set it down for a few days at a time, and read at ease when I could. I liked the sweet honesty of it. Would recommend it to any shopper.

Way back more or less five years ago, I loved shopping. Seeing this book from that situation I guess this is a pretty entertaining book: how a simple trip at the mall could give you life's lessons along the way.

one of the most refreshing, humiliating, but refreshing story block from Chicken Soup Series.
