Thessaly here again. I’m still 22, and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
If I grow up.
With the way things are going, I’m not feeling particularly confident I’ll survive to see my next birthday. The DNA Networking Act’s deadline for voluntary blood sample submissions has passed, and although I’ve managed to slip the system, it did not go unnoticed. Now, the bad guys have upped the ante: they’re collecting people instead of samples.
To add to the drama, somewhere between being kidnapped and discovering there’s something different – and highly coveted – about my DNA, I started falling heart-first for the guys who’ve been my rock through it all.
However, just when I begin to relax a little and give fate a chance, the precarious life/love balance I’ve managed to hang on to, despite the circumstances, turns upside down.
In one terrible, devastating event after another…
… everything breaks.

Note: In 2044, while the world isn’t terribly different, human rights are. Our heroines and heroes in Her Reverse Genus find themselves thrust into one unfortunate event after another where they’re forced to explore varying degrees of highly triggering topics that some readers may find difficult to read. A list of potential triggers is provided in the front matter of the book.
Adell Ryan is a hubby/wife pseudonym. Adell writes unconventional love stories about fierce women and their numerous male suitors. Because let's be honest, we need more than one to satisfy our multi-dimensional needs. Right? Ryan simply puts up with Adell's crazy fantasies and toots her horn regularly. Occasionally he'll add in a shoulder pat, and a deep, sexy "Damn that's good stuff."
That southern boy (bless him) stole this northern girl's heart and they live together in the deep south, raising their three boys. When Adell isn't writing she's homeschooling — primarily working on dictation, making sure they say 'creek' instead of 'crick' and 'fire' instead of 'fer.' She also dabbles in photography and graphic design. Oh yeah, and reading. Every. Night. Much to Ryan's dismay. Sometimes she puts the steamy stuff down and gives him a quick kiss on the forehead though.
This one didn’t appeal to me as much as the first book. Which makes no sense, because she was kidnapped and did the whole Stockholm syndrome in that one. But there you have it. I’d forgotten how anti-vaxxer the sentiment is in this series. It’s a little off-putting. And it’s got those religious undertones that keep being brought up. Because the MC isn’t religious, but her dad always said… bring forth author’s soundproof logic for faith. I think I’d enjoy it more if the opinions were ones I shared, because when the MC starts talking about how she’s healthy and has such a great immune system because she never had chemicals from vaccines put in her body, she just sounds like an idiot. Which then kills the rest of the science it tries to talk about, because my impression has already been formed that there is actually zero understanding of how any of this stuff would work. This is also one of those books where they’re constantly talking. I found the double speak for the Italian character really annoying and tended to skim whenever he spoke. Does he really say everything twice in every conversation? Because that’s a little insane and made him feel really two dimensional. The only think I can say about him is that he’s Italian. And that says everything twice. There were also weirdly specific and detailed scenes while she had *ahem* something in her mouth. Like, that was not the moment to analyse that required a play by play of every single hand and tongue gesture. It was like a step by step guide and not even remotely sexy. That could just be me, but it felt like it’d been written in consultation with an instruction manual, which is really not in the moment. There were some intriguing developments but I wish I was more invested in the characters.
Somewhere deep down, despite my Alpha hobbies, I'm a total Beta girl. I love science, biology, physics, chemistry, maths. I was the one girl in my advanced Maths class and very proud of it. So, if there's one thing that turns me on: It's handsome, hot and smart guys with glasses saying intelligent scientific things that I surprisingly enough can understand. So, a story about genetics in a futuristic world, that had to be my gem, right?
In this second book we dive way more into the science part of this series. We learn a lot more about the genetics, we get a glimpse of how they work and what that means for our harem. The further I got, the more I moved to the edge of my seat, mostly because it was all so very interesting. It's quite clear that Ryan did a lot of research and does know what she's talking about. And it's quite clear that what we saw in this book is only the tip of the iceberg.
However, apart from the science, we also get a very thrilling adventure. The first part of the book focusses on the connections our leading lady is building with the guys. This means that we get to know all the guys a little better too. Only a little though. I'm pretty sure that we will learn more about them in the next books. However, I feel a slight crush on dear Thomas and Bram developing and I can't wait to read the rest so Ryan can feed those growing crushes.
The second part of the book is more action packed. I really felt the chills running down my spine and I was glad that I could read on until I finished the book. Not that all questions were answered. This second part of the book also gave us the chance to see a little more of the group dynamics and the individual qualities of all the main characters. And I really love how it seems that they never forget to use their brains. But that also goes for the enemies. Which makes it even more exciting.
And the ending of the book promises loads more amazingness to come. I can't wait!
Broken is the second book in this reverse harem (RH) series, and you must read book one, Perfect, first. This RH series takes place in the near future (2044) and is on the light side of sci-fi, and a little paranormal (depending on your definition of that). The books in this series are of good length, and they cover short periods of time in some detail, which I like. One of the things I like best about this series is the uniqueness between Thessaly's and the heroes' connections: the various empathic attributes at play and how this makes them interact with not only Thessaly but each other as well. I find their takes and discussions/agreements on romantic and sexual activity with Thess very interesting. I do like all of the heroes, but I've made no secret that Tobias is my favorite - and I feel the same about that after finishing book two. I appreciate that this series is a slower burn, it gives me something to anticipate and makes sense for their timeline and the situation they are in. Broken gives us a little more by way of information in terms of what their DNA/DMIS numbers mean, a little more of Robbie and Kait (yay!) and I really liked the small scenes involving parents as well. It also set up some intriguing things for the next book, things I really want to know/read about. This series does a good at job balancing a little bit of each story component: a little bit of science, world background, character history, action and villainy, romance, sex - they are all represented. I think in some cases a reader may want less or more of one or another of these components, but this will be highly reader specific, and if they are anything like I am as a reader, changeable based on mood. In the end, I think I liked book two more than book one, but it is a close call.
I knew they put a tracker in her finger when her finger wouldn't heal! And I knew it was Roux at the bar!
But the beauty of this series is that we still don't have all the answers two books deep. And yes, they could have taken my really intelligent solution to leave the country in book 1 but that would have made for a short series. I get it. They are going the resistance route which will be more plot oriented.
Also, can the lady starts getting railed?! Like, I get it, it's a slow burn but Jesus!

Let me start by saying this strictly my personal opinion as a reader and I encourage you to read for yourself no matter what! I really wanted to love this newest installment of Her Reverse Genus series, I really did. Especially after such a wonderful introduction in the first book that had me dying for more. But, I have to give it 3.5 stars.
Unfortunately, I just couldn't love it like I did the first one. Let me explain before you start breaking out the torches and pitchforks! While there was plenty of character development that was pretty freaking great, I was very much looking forward to more world building and got very little of it this time. It seemed to just keep getting pushed to the back burner even though so much is going on in this new world of theirs. Also, the dialogue between the characters seemed to shift a little. I'd find myself loving how things were playing out and then a phrase or response would send things to the wayside. I also felt like the relationship between characters developed more than the personalities as individuals did. I want to know them more personally than I do yet! I thoroughly enjoyed the increased steam level though 😉
One of the major events that took place felt like something I would expect to read in book three or four. It happened and it happened so quick that I was completely unprepared for it. I just felt like it happened way sooner in the series than I expected. The events that followed also left me kind of reeling. It wasn't so drastic that it didn't belong, it just happened much sooner than I could handle. *Can't say too much because I refuse to post spoilers
The ending was pure torture! In the good way that I will undoubtedly be reading the next one just to figure out what happens. I just hope we dig more into the plot and the setting and a little less into the characters this go round.
Overall, this is still a really intriguing new SciFi and I will be looking forward to the next book no matter what. I could easily give it 3.5 just for the impressive writing style and emotional pull. I even feel like very few people will agree with my personal opinion and expectations, but they're still there nonetheless. Either way, you should absolutely read for yourself before making any decisions!
Broken is the second book in the Her Reverse Genus series. It is vital to read this series in order. While I admit I like the second book better than the first, I would have been completely lost if I hadn't read Perfect first.
That being said....... Broken takes us on a journey of where we are not only watching Thessaly grow but the other characters as well. Without giving spoilers away, be prepared to see the bond strengthen and answers finally come available. But can the guys handle what is to happen to Thessaly or will they walk away when it gets tough? Expect surprises, deceit, lust, love and action. Read to find out just what it will take for Thessaly to get her answers.
If you like sci-fi books that are so close to possibly being a reality its scary then this series will be for you. Just know that it really is a reverse harem so do not be surprised that there are four men and one woman.
Fantastic, absolutely fantastic. This book is even better than the first and I wasn't sure that was even possible. These characters are believable and easy to relate to, especially since we have constant insight into their emotions. The guys personal stories/backgrounds/pasts are slowly coming out and getting to know them better is only serving to make Thessaly (and myself) fall more in love with them all. The steam level got kicked up a notch in this second installment of the series and the sexual tension between all of them only fuels my anticipation for each interlude. The danger level jumped leaps from book one and the action, confusion and turmoil make for an amazing read. I seriously love this series, Adell Ryan's writing style is fantastic and this series is in a league of its own. I look forward to reading these two books over and over again until the release of book three!
Broken being the second book in Adell’s Reverse Genus series picks up where we left off in book one, we’re reminded that Thess, Bram, Tobias, Julian and Jax are in hiding, Thess’s Dad is in hospital and her mum has be kidnaped. There’s a bit more action this time round because Thess won’t accept anything less than rescuing her mum and making sure her dad is okay. This book gives us some insight into why Thess is so comfortable with the guys given she just met them (let’s not forget they kidnaped her) and fallen in love with them. We get insight into why their DNA scores are so important and we know that this is a slow burn RH so we explore their feelings for each other a bit more which is great and sweet. Obviously we’re left agin with a cliffhanger that will have you jumping out of your skin. I must say have enjoyed reading this one and can’t wait for book 3 next year.
Two books in and still no answers only the development of the relationship with the guys but only know the back story on two out of four. So PISSed because I only read the second book to answer Why but still no answers but dropped hints. It's frustrating when they have a rebel group but the reader don't know what they are fighting against, wait! They don't want to take the test. What did they do to her, wait her man told her to keep her eyes closed so she wouldn't see but she lost her memory of everything that happened there so maybe the author should have let her do the readers will know but that was revealing too much. Instead let's talk about the weird attraction to the male who is crazy because we would want to know that instead of the experiment being done on her. Too many questions.
Broken is the fantastic second book in the Her Reverse Genus series by Adell Ryan. This book picks up immediately where Perfect leaves off, so you have to have read that one to understand what is going on. Thessaly and the guys are still in hiding, but they are beginning to develop a plan of action. They come to an understanding with an old friend, who is willing to help them on their way, and grow closer as their relationships develop. I love that Thessaly is not the typical kick-butt heroine. She is imperfect, broken in some ways, and yet strong at the same time. She would do anything for her guys and her family, even if it puts her in danger. Though some questions are answered in this book, more have come up, and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
This book is, dare I say it, even better than the first in the series, ‘Perfect.’ There is great consistency between the first book and this, the second book. You learn more about the main characters and more about the world around them. There is a part in the book that insinuates something happening that could be triggering to some if their imagination leads them to believe the same thing that my imagination lead me to believe. (If that makes any sense.) The book doesn’t go into detail about what’s going on in this scene, so it may not be what I think...maybe we will find out in the next book? Overall the storytelling, character development and world building are all once again excellent and consistent. I can’t wait for the next book! I’m hooked!!
I could not wait for Broken to release, and Adell Ryan did not disappoint!!! I really enjoyed the progression of the main characters relationships as well as the story development. As with any good sequel in a series, I was left with more questions than answers and I just want MORE! Especially more Jax – meow! The world Adell Ryan has created has me fully intrigued and I can’t help but imagining what the government might be up t0 and what will happen next. I’ve been happy to be surprised at every turn so far, things have not been predictable! Now I’ll sit and impatiently wait for the release of book 3 because – WOW what an ending!
There are so many things to love about this series. It’s originality, well written characters, gripping storyline, humorous turns of phrase are just a few that come to mind. Broken picks up right where the first book, Perfect, left off and continues the action involving Thessaly and her guys. And while the book answered a lot of questions from Perfect, it also left me with more questions about what is happening (though not in a confusing way, more like a not everything has been revealed way). I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!
This is a great follow up to Perfect. Thess is having to grow up really fast as they are constantly on the run. She’s had to leave everything and everyone behind that she knows. Her guys are learning how to survive their new “situation” they have found themselves in with her as their center. Her family is having to fight the sinking feeling that they may never get to see her again.
This book picks up exactly where Perfect left off. It is RH, medium/fast burn. If you enjoy science, hot men, racy scenes and a future setting, this book is for you.
Broken was a fantastic second installment to the Reverse Genus series. We get to know more about the boys we came to love in Perfect: Bram, Julian, Jax and Tobias. They start exploring how this reverse harem thing will work between them. We get some nice steamy sex scenes. In Broken the group get involved with Robbie and Kait to a larger degree. Answers are given, but of course more questions emerge! There is plenty of action and Julian speaking Italian is HOT! Bring on book 3!
To be honest, I don't know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. I had to repeatedly tell myself to slow down on this read. I wanted to devour it! I also didn't want it to end. I got the answers that i wanted from book one,but now I have a million others. Tobias is still my favorite and I don't think anything can change that. One of my two main questions right now is who is Roux? And is he sticking around?
This book picked right off from where the last one left off and I cannot wait for the next one to re released. I appreciate this author so much especially with all that is going on in her life at the moment she still manages to give us a great book and in a timely manner. I cannot wait for this series to continue and I hope if you haven't started this series yet that you do because you will be hooked. Please everyone give this series a try and you will not regret it.
Ugh I’m so addicted to this series! It’s sooooo good. The author does such a good job of sucking you in to feel everything that the characters do. I loved the 1st book of the series and this second book did not disappoint! I’m dying to see what happens next with Thessaliy and to find out what happen to her at the end of this book. Dying for more!!!!!!!
3.5* here's the thing. I LOVE RH. i read alot of them both crappy and amazing. For me personally I don't love this series, but I am kinda drawn in by the characters so that is why i continue. Half the time i skimmed this book. It's just not my favorite set up and story. Some people dont like RH shifter books. SOme dont like RH vampire books. She is a good writer and story teller.
This second book of the series was quite a story. Thessaly and her men search for answers to why their scores are so important. What is the bigger picture that they are missing? Follow along as they gather clues and forge bonds of love and friendship along the way.
I have read a lot since finishing Perfect, and my mind seems to have forgotten a lot of the details. So, I had trouble getting into Broken, but it is totally my fault for not rereading Perfect first. However, Broken finally caught and held my attention, and I was glad I stuck with it.
I want to trade places and try out her harem. The honesty of emotion in this book surprised me. Tobias's struggle with the relationship really sparked me. All of guys are handling it differently and like tinder to flame I must have more. I cant wait to read book 3. 💗
I still like the idea of this story. But I felt this book was rushed. The story, the interaction with the guys, all of it. Maybe that’s just me. Overall the book was still good and I’m looking forward to the next installment
Book one was awesome book two is also amazing! Absolutely packed full of excitement and drama, the characters are superb and really draw you in to this exciting series, I was glued to the page all the way through, I am so loving this series, and cannot wait for the next book!!!
I can't rave about this series enough honestly. This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every second of it! I can't wait to see what happens with Thess and her guys in book 3!
This book picks up right where the last one left off. Lots of action towards the middle and end. A few answers and a lot more questions. A little bit more romance than the last book. I look forward to the next book.
This is a dark book, not because of the actual content but because of the idea being it - and how bloody scary that is. One can actually see a government doing this, and that is terrifying.
I was immediately back in with Thess and her men. I am loving all of the interactions between all of the characters. I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.
Broken, book 2 of Her Reverse Genus series, kept to the same tension-filled pace of book 1, and the reader discovered new layers to the characters. The plot thickened…book 3 awaits.
Omg what a cliffhanger!!! Once again i was absolutely glued to this book, love how the story is unfolding and we are learning more about the characters too!! Onto book 3 😁
