I wish this book had gone into more detail about how to declutter your home and life. It basically just tells you to go do it. But, I did really appreciate the way mindfulness was explained. I feel I have a better understanding of how to proceed with my goal of being minimalist.

Had this been the first bit of information I found on living a life of minimalism, I may have given this book one more star. Unfortunately, this VERY short book is what seems to be a regurgitation of sound bites from podcasts, inspirational IG story posts, and information from other books, blogs, and articles.

If you're already living a life of minimalism, I wouldn't suggest this book. If you aren't and are curious, there are some good bits within the 71 actual pages Mr. Garnett wrote.

I say 71, but that is actually a stretch. This book could've very easily been condensed into one blog piece or article. The author did what many high school and college students do when they write. He used a very large font, left huge spaces between paragraphs, included subtitles in even larger fonts and in bold to take up even more space, included 10 blank or nearly blank pages that separated "parts" of the book, and would start each chapter with an elementary and unnecessary, "This chapter is going to be about...," paragraph. He would then sum up each short chapter with bulleted recap points. There was barely anything to recap in the first place!

From pages 89-112, in another attempt to make the book seem longer that it actually is, Mr. Garnett used fillers including pictures of his other books (one picture per page with no descriptions), resources for other places to get minimalism info, a "bonus chapter" from one of this other books, and a notes section that is 5 pages long, in itself.

I paid $14.99 for this paperback book, plus tax, on Amazon, which I wouldn't have done if I had known how short it is in actuality, especially when I knew all of the things he wrote about from other books, documentaries, podcasts, blogs, and online articles. I wish I could get a refund, if I'm honest.

What put me off even more is the section in the back where he asks the reader to please give a positive review so as to reach as many people as possible in the hopes that more people can find and buy his book.

I get it. He is an author who wants to sell his books to make a living. Fair enough.

However, he THEN goes on to say that if you do NOT like his book, to please email him at feedback@semsoli.com and tell him what you didn't like. So...he wants you to do this PRIVATELY, so he won't have any negative reviews online.

Sir... that isn't okay, and it's not honest.

I don't love giving negative reviews and rarely do. I try to put myself in the author's shoes. However, if you actually put this IN your very short, stretched thin book that has minuscule original information within it, just know that puts people off.

Minimal....

I know it's about minimalism, but this book was way too simplistic. It read like a very long magazine article, but it was a quick, easy read. I'm looking for something deeper about minimalism.

It covered all of the basics. I just wish it was more detailed in terms of providing a list of things that you can reuse, ideas on how to cut back on items per room (bathroom, kitchen, bedroom etc.) As well, photos would have been a great addition.

I loved it

It’s written in a way that you can understand and enjoy it with ease, though that doesn’t mean it’s trivial.

Easy to read

This was a quick easy read. I’m already fairy minimalistic but this had some great points I hadn’t considered. Recommended to my brother.

A good primer on minimalism. A quick easy read to get behind the “why” of minimalism. Great questions to think through for those starting to embrace minimalism.

Well written but way more brief than what I was hoping for. Good introduction to the basic concept of minimalism. Will continue on with the authors recommended books and resources.
