I’m Katie Grainger, I’m 45 years old, a divorced mother of three, slightly annoying at times, but always loveable, kids and I can wet myself at the drop of hat. Actually, it’s more like a sneeze or a cough than a drop of a hat, but whatever the reason, let’s just say I am forever grateful for the invention of the ultra-thin panty pad.
I don’t have a bad life, there’s book club where I discuss the menopause with my friends, there’s Clubbercise where I wet myself and dance like my mother with my friend Mandy and there’s my work which is pretty boring, where I get to learn a lot about reality TV from my much younger co-workers. All of which makes me content – yes, I’d like more sex, but who wouldn’t when their castle hadn’t been breached for four years.
Do I have regrets in my life? Yes, I do. I regret that my ex-husband, Carl, and I didn’t realise we’d grown apart sooner. I regret not trying more online dating when I first got divorced and I regret that my youngest, Charlie, feels torn between pleasing me and his dad. What I don’t regret is my bag breaking and spilling everything over the pizza place floor, the night Dex Michaels was in there ordering a 9inch meat feast.
Pelvic Flaws is the story of one woman’s struggle with hot sweats, mood swings and perilously poor pelvic floor muscles. It’s the story of Dex, who thinks all those things about Katie are funny and adorable. It’s the story of a romance that could turn into something big. It’s the story of what might be the love affair of the century, potentially being ruined by the baggage that neither of them knew existed.
I live in Cheshire with my husband, two dogs and mum in law and write romantic humour and contemporary romance. My first two books, Guess Who I Pulled Last Night? and No Bra Required both stayed at number 1 on the Amazon Humour list for 3 & 4 weeks respectively. My ambitions of becoming a writer started at the age of 10 when I started writing poetry at school, and was given the honour of reading one out to the rest of my year group (an horrific experience that I will never forget). Thankfully I have a wide variety of strange and wonderful people in my life, otherwise I'd be stuck on what to write about! I am currently talking to family and friends, finding out their innermost secrets in readiness for my next book.
My books are romances that come with a little more than vanilla sexy times, sometimes a few tears, lots of hot men and feisty women, but ultimately they'll make you smile.

The problem with Nikki Ashton books is they’re insanely addictive. Once you start reading, you cannot put the book down. You find you need to finish in a single sitting, curious to see how everything comes together, desperate for more. Which is great, except for the fact I seem to make a habit of starting Nikki Ashton books in the early hours of the morning. This means I regularly go without sleep – and my neighbours too, most likely, as I chuckle so hard I’m sure they hear me.
Although Pelvic Flaws is the second book in the An American in the UK series, it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. I’d certainly recommend giving Do You Do Extras? a read, as it’s a wonderful book, but it is not necessary to understand this one. If you are someone who has read other Nikki Ashton books, though, and not just Do You Do Extras?, you will find yourself noticing mentions of other Nikki Ashton characters. It’s a nice bonus, but Pelvic Flaws really does stand up on its own.
As with every Nikki Ashton book, Pelvic Flaws is a story that grips you from the very first page. You’re sucked into the lives of the characters, you’re pulled into the humour, and each additional word you read sucks you in ever deeper. In no time at all you fall in love with the characters and the events, finding yourself curious as to what comes next. You want more of their interactions, you want more of the emotion, and you find yourself unable to pull yourself away from the book.
I’m sure there will be some who will look at this book and think it is aimed for the older reader, for those who can understand the issues our female lead is dealing with, yet such is not the case. This story has plenty that will appeal to many, and you’ll find yourself addicted to so many elements of the story. There really is plenty of drama, humour, and emotion to be felt, ensuring you’ll be hooked on many layers.
Without a doubt, Pelvic Flaws was another laugher filled read from Nikki Ashton, an addiction I was happy to feed. I cannot wait to see what Nikki Ashton brings us next, as I have yet to be disappointed!
"I think you call it pre-love" he stated. "The stage between love and like." "What, like pre-cum?"
British humour, I love it and I entered into Pelvic Flaws with it in abundance. I found my Soul Sista in Katie, she's the type of woman who I could identify with and you know when some things happen and you can either laugh or cry about it? Well, I would rather laugh, I adored Katie.
"Stop panicking, it's not a problem, honestly." "It is. I have grey pubes, Mandy, It's awful, I'm officially old." "Honestly, it's a good thing. Think of it this way, he's a silver fox and you're a silver pussy. It's a match made in heaven"
Pelvic Flaws felt like a book of two halves, I laughed along at poor Katie's expense and her struggles with the changes in her body and as a single mum of three she was definitely a champion. From the moment Katie met silver fox Dex though the swooning began.
Dex is an American tattoo artist with dual citizenship and after wanting a slower pace in life he now lives in the UK. A Hot silver fox with swoon worthy southern charm.
Pelvic Flaws was a great balance of humour and romance with a bit of hotness and chemistry. Family moments and new beginnings. I loved it and was so happy with the heartwarming hea.
5 Stars! One of the best romcoms I’ve ever read! EVER! What a delightfully funny and heartwarming story. I connected with this book AND Katie in so many ways. I couldn't stop laughing. If you love romcoms, I swear you will not be disappointed if you chose to read Pelvic Flaws. I can truly tell you that you are missing out if you don't check out this book. The author is incredibly talented with writing comedy, the pace was fast and when I turned the last page, I realized I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Katie, Dex and all the entertaining, secondary characters.
Katie is a divorced mother of three, dealing with the changes of being single like a champ. While she was disappointed that her marriage didn't last, she wasn't heartbroken. Katie is also dealing with all the things women deal with at her age. Being in her late forties, Katie is fairly content with her life. The truth is, falling in love again isn't even on her radar. I absolutely adored Katie and completely understood what she was going through. As a woman around Katie's age, I totally sympathize with her.
When Katie meets Dex for the first time, it's because she drops her purse on the floor of a local pizzeria and the embarrassing contents roll under the table where Dex is seated. Dex was a great hero. After helping Katie retrieve her unmentionables, he knows immediately that she is different from most of the women he knows. Katie is a breath of fresh air with a great sense of humor.
Between Dex and Katie, I couldn't stop laughing. He was such a gentleman at the times he could have unintentionally hurt her feelings. Of course, when they meet again, Katie is in a situation. Dex comes to her rescue and from that point on, they slowly build a relationship. Katie is wary to move too fast because she has her kids to think about. Of course, Dex is hard to resist.
This book has everything. Fun, humor, plenty of sexy times and even some surprises that turned out to be very serious. I won't elaborate because you should read this book for yourself. I can say, just sitting here writing this review, I want to reread this book right now. I truly loved it that much!
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it! :)
If you're going to purchase Pelvic Flaws by Nikki Ashton and you're a lady over the age of 40, I suggest to purchase a maxi pack of Tena lady first off - you're going to need them. Also don't read this in the waiting room of your psychiatrist's office. You persistent guffawing to yourself might give them cause to section you.
That said, please don't let that put you off buying it. It's freaking hilarious. It's easily the funniest book I've read this year. I work for a well-known pizza company and I'm never looking at their twisted dough balls again in the same light.
The cast of characters is brilliant, from sexy silver fox, Dex, to incorrigible Katie with no filter and a talent for getting herself into scrapes, to the staff at the tattoo parlour, Katie's complex kids and weird but loveable mother and even her ex and his wife. They all blend together into a modern twenty-first century family of sorts who love and hate each other in equal measure.
The story has enough angst to keep you intrigued but not so much that the characters are too stupid to live. The scrapes Katie gets into are believable (They're the sort of thing that happens to me - sadly without meeting the gorgeous silver fox so far). The laughs keep coming, and coming, and coming. A bit like Katie and Dex, eventually.
This book is fabulous. If you don't try it, you're missing out. If you're a woman who has passed 40 and has a sense of humour you'll totally get this book and empathise with Katie. I feel Katie's pain and anxiety. Katie lives a little in us all and I was sad when the book ended. I want to know more. I want to meet Katie and Dex and go to the pub with them. And that's the sign of a great book.
I've read a few books by Nikki Ashton now and though I loved the others, this is now my favourite. Buy it now and you won't be sorry.
This book was hilarious! Nikki’s books usually have me laughing along, and this one was no different. Full on laughing at some of Katie’s comments. I loved the whole story, and would definitely recommend Nikki’s books to everyone
Katie and Dex were hilarious in this book. Katie is the kind of woman you can relate to in your 40's. Dex was hot and thought Katie was adorable and cute with all her quirks. This is a great rom-com read. Pick it up today.
"His accent was broad and sexy and made me want to put on a pair of Daisy Dukes and ride across a ranch, on a horse called Champion."
Katie Grainger is middle-aged, menopausal, and has three kids. She hasn't really been with anyone in years -since her divorce. When she meets sexy, tattooed, silver-fox Dex Michaels in the local pizza place, she does so in spectacular embarrassing style!
"This woman is like no one I've ever met before. She's funny and cute, has no f*cking filter on how to be around a man she's attracted to, and she's sexy without even realizing it."
Dex Michaels is a coveted tattoo artist. He's ripped, absolutely gorgeous and has a sexy Texan drawl to boot! From the moment he meets Katie, he's pretty much smitten but he needs to overcome her insecurities and a difficult ex, and hope that she gives in to their undeniable attraction that could turn into something he wasn't even looking for.
"I wanted everything with her. I wanted it all and half measures would never be enough."
Absolutely adored this story and loved that it was about a couple the same age as me, making it wholly relatable. Katie was gloriously awkward, unfiltered and unconsciously funny. And, OH.MY.GOD! Dex! I’ve got my own silver fox but, darlin’, we all need a bit of Dex in our lives! He’s so freakin’ gorgeous and thoughtful, and hella hot!! He had plenty of charm and manners, and I loved the way he pushed through Katie's insecurities and made her feel beautiful and desired. He was honest, earnest and so in the moment!
This is not my first Nikki Ashton read, at this point I have become addicted to her writing and characters. I was delighted to receive an ARC of Pevic Flaws. Whilst reading this I discovered my "Pelvic Flaws." Nikki Ashton has once again hit the jackpot with this little beauty. I laughed so hard at places that my pelvic floor was in need of attention and I developed a "snort" I kid you not!! As usual with one of Nikki's books it's so additive that you can't put it down. In Pelvic Flaws we meet the delightful Katie, who at 45, menopausal, divorced with 3 kids is trying to negotiate a dry spell, and I don't just mean the weather! When she decides to have pizza for dinner one night she falls for the delightful Dex. Well her handbag does, with it's contents strewn all over the floor, and her crawling around trying to retrieve them, when she has to negotiate with Dex's legs and a chair to retrieve her "Vagisoothe." Dex is a well-known (in tatoo circles) American tattoo artist, now living in the UK with his own business. He's single, has a F-buddy and living the single mans dream. That is until no-filter Katie crawls between his legs looking for her stuff and remarks on his junk. We follow a great story, and with Nikki we get a few unexpected twists. If you are looking for a wonderfully funny, and very additive read look no further. This is Book 2 in Nikki's American in the UK Series, and I'm really excited for Book 3, whatever that may be.
Oh my days! I absolutely loved this book! Katie Grainger is my spirit animal. Her relationship with the people in her life resonated so much with me.
Katie is a 45 year old woman dealing with divorce, the menopause and a non-existent love life. She bumps into Dex at a local pizza house; he’s hot, attractive and attentive. She’s everything he didn’t realise he was looking for.
Another chance encounter leads to a healthy dose of instalust and thus, a relationship begins. The pace of the relationship, the comedic asides and witty banter between all of the characters makes this story heart-warming and charming.
Katie is portrayed exactly like the modern, 40-something women I have in my life; she is someone I could be friends with. It’s like the author can see into my head and those of my friends. I relate so hard to this book; from the grey pube incident (I’m still laughing) to the body hang-ups, I’ve lived it all.
And Dex: well, we can all hope for a man like that when/if we have a second chance at love. Swoony doesn’t come close. He’s understanding, charming, sexy and just .... gah! Adorable.
I loved this book. And the little cameo mentions of characters from other books put a smile on my face too. If you want a second chance romance book with a healthy dose of self-deprecating comedy and swoon-worthy moments, this is the book for you. Perfect.
Omg how has it taken me this long to read a Nikki Ashton book?? Pelvic Flaws had me giggling all the way through. It was hilarious!
Katie is a middle aged woman going through menopause. As a woman who has had three children and her fair share of embarrassing moments, I found Katie to be easy to relate to. She’s so real, if that makes sense. She’s not a perfectly made up woman, and I think that’s why I like her so much. She could be me. Dex is a middle aged Texan guy now living in the UK. He has a tattoo business and is well known for his work. Did I mention he’s a silver fox?
When Katie and Dex first encounter each other I was in hysterics. She’s the type of character who finds herself in compromising positions, and this meeting is no different.
These two are like fire and ice but it works. They’re so adorable together, and you’ll find yourself falling hard for Dex. I’ll admit, I had a certain model in mind as I read.
I can’t review without mentioning Katie’s family. Isaac, her oldest son, is a little lost in life. The divorce really shook him. Annie is a bit of a princess, but she means well. Charlie is the youngest, and he’s a sweetheart. He just wants to make everyone happy. And then there’s D’reen, Katie’s mum. She’s flirty and hilarious, but also has a soft side.
I absolutely adored this book, and I will definitely be reading more from this author!
This book is bloody hilarious, I have never had to stop reading from crying with laughter so much before. I have watched my mum and aunts go through the change and could so see Katie's problems in them, this book has however made me dread the change. God, I don't want it to happen lol.
Katie is fantastic throughout this book causing one laugh out loud moment after another, she wears her heart on her sleeve and she really is beautiful flaws, that only she sees and all. And that is exactly how she pulls Dex. Dex is a hottie, to say the least, he isn't young and dashing but 46, rugged, grey and tattooed to perfection. He falls hard and fast. And I completely fell in love with both of them.
In the usual Nikki Ashton style, she manages to make you smile, laugh and cry all within a few sentences. She knows how to write a warm, heartfelt story that will stay with you for a while. The supporting cast in this book is loads of the fun and make this story all the greater.
I totally recommend this great story, full of farts, fun and family. Katie and Dex are brilliant. I really hope from this we get books from other character and I absolutely love the nod to one of my favourite characters Roman.
OMG! This book right here had me LOL, snorting and waking my other half up whilst reading in bed. Pelvic Flaws brings serious issues like divorce, menopause and starting life over again with the worries of a middle-aged romance, but the author has an hilarious way of getting this on page. I can't wait to dive into more of her work. The characters are so loveable with zero filter, just the way I like them.
⛔⛔⛔SOME SPOILERS⛔⛔⛔

Enters Dex he's fit AF, tatted and shock he apparently wants her. So it's time to pull up the big girl knickers and relive her teenage dating.
Dex an American tattoo artist, now in the UK with his own shop. He loves the single life and a no-strings-relationship, that is until the sexy, no-filter Katie bows down to his nuts looking for her junk. Now it's game on time to get serious.
Life throws curve balls their way but will they be strong enough to dodge them and have an HEA?
I was hooked from the beginning, the start was amusing, book club sounded just like me and my girly friends talking 😃
Katie is a divorcee with 3 kids, she's your run of the mill woman, doesn't see her own strengths, has typical age 45+ issues, along with a very honest voice.
Okay I'm considering doctoring some of my bags if it brings a Dex into my life...... bugger I'm married so that won't be a good idea lol
Dex is the perfect silver fox and is swoon-worthy. He calls everyone darlin as he is American and damn it sounds good coming from him, but he calls Katie Kat <3 His a tattooist with good morals and is so kind and considerate and most definitely SEXY!
The story and humour made me giggle and quite a few bits made me belly laugh - especially the 'escape' when Katie and Dex are at the gym together!
I loved how real Katie was and other than the fact I'm married, I almost thought Katie was based around me. Yes Dex is a dreamboat and most probably more fantasy, but who cares I loved him.
So, if you're looking for a Funny and heartwarming story, dive in and meet Katie, a real woman and Dex a dream silver fox <3
Pelvic Flaws is a terrific mix of sweet, sexy, and laugh out loud hilarious. This story has everything I love in a romance, including a positively swoon-worthy silver fox. Dex is maybe a little too perfect, but he's just right for this romance and he's the best book boyfriend I've come across. Every woman needs a Dex in their life. Katie is a hot mess with a great sense of humor, which comes in pretty handy when you're raising three kids and dealing with menopause. The romance isn't perfect, and Dex and Katie do run into their share of misunderstandings, but the angst level is low and tempered with humor. I love that the many pitfalls of menopause and middle age aren't sugar coated, but at the same time, Nikki Ashton reminds us that it's okay to poke a little fun at ourselves and not take life so seriously. The story moves at a good pace, has lots of laughs, brilliant dialogue, and is impossible to put down. It's a refreshing adult romance, and I highly recommend giving it a read. This is one that I'll certainly be coming back to again and again.
*5 stars* A funny, at times hilarious, read that will leave you wanting more when you've finished reading! At the beginning I was a bit fearful that the story wasn't really going to be for me 'cuz of the topic but damn I absolutely enjoyed this story! Even though I'm not there yet as a woman personally, I really felt the characters and what they were going through. A perfect read and one that you'll definitely remember after you've finished it!
Katie is a newly divorced woman with kids and is feeling all out of sorts. She's trying to find out who she really is, with menopause and all, without having to be a wife. With the help of her best friend, she will slowly get out in the world. When she meets Dex, the circumstances how they meet is just one for the books! She doesn't think she'll ever see him again but to her surprise they do and they hit it off. Finally she'll see that what she had with her ex wasn't all that good and slowly she's becoming the woman she was always meant to be and maybe, just maybe, she'll have a second chance on love with Dex...
This story was an absolute pleasure to read. It was lovely to have a book about a more mature relationship and read the calamity that is Katie. I laughed and just plain grinned a lot while reading this story.
Katie is so relatable with her hot sweats and self-doubts. I loved her parenting skills and the hilarious thoughts that run rampant in her head. Katie's Mum is a real character too and made me cringe with her flirty, no filter personality. Dex is just wonderful; I imagine I would swoon if I met him. His Texan accent and manners would be enough to win me over. What a man!
I really loved this book and didn't want it to end. The plot twisted a few times with some lovely unexpected events and made my chin wobble with emotions. It was that well written.
I feel the need to find more books from Nikki Ashton now. I recommend every one to read Pelvic Flaws asap, you won't regret it.
Dex Michaels is a Texan living and working in the UK. Katie is a single mother of three who, after separating from her husband of 18 years has had a four year 'dry spell'!
Let's just say that when Dex and Katie meet, his 'Southern Gentleman' charm comes out in force.
His treatment and protection of Katie is wonderful to read and those of you with daughters will wish for a Dex as a son-in-law, that's for sure.
Katie's entourage of children, extended family, friends and colleagues makes Pelvic Flaws the epitome of romantic comedy, of the blockbuster variety.
This is the first Nikki Ashton creation I've read having chosen to 'read' audiobooks of others. However, this experience has created a monster that will no longer be tamed by audio experiences of Nikki Ashton's work.
A fabulous story with so many feels. Nikki Ashton has written a truly wonderful story of second chance love but with an incredibly humorous twist.
Dex and Katie are characters you can’t help but love. Their individual stories combine to create a rollicking fun read with depth and emotion and the fact that Katie is a forty something woman, battling the symptoms of menopause only endears her more to me. Her hilarious descriptions and misadventures had me thoroughly absorbed but the chemistry she had with Dex was off the charts.
The whole second chance story for the family was a wonderful extension of the deeper story of Katie and Dex. I’ll definitely be recommending this one.
Pelvic Flaws was OUTRAGEOUSLY funny. There were numerous times when I found myself laughing out loud.
What drew me into the book was the fact that it was about fortysomethings. Sometimes you just want to read a book about more mature characters. Which is funny considering how much I laughed while reading. Of course the kids in this provided much of the entertainment.
I only wish there was more spacing between paragraphs when the story cut to another scene. It went from a couple kissing in the driveway to immediately having sex in the very next paragraph. I almost had to take a mental break and read those few lines again to let the change of scene soak in.
This was my first book from Nikki Ashton, and you can CERTAINLY bet that I'll read her again.
Holy hell!!!! This was one of the funniest books I have read in a while. Maybe because I am 40, but I was laughing so hard I nearly peed my pants many times. Pelvic Flaws by Nikki Ashton was a book I could not put down until I finished.
Without giving too many details because I want this book to be organic when you read it. A story of a divorced women in her 40’s that not only has to deal With the single life she has to endure all the things many women face when they hit a specific age, ones I am just starting to experience myself.
I definitely recommend this story to any women young and old that need a good laugh with a little romance and a lot of love.
In Pelvic Flaws, Dex and Katie meet after a chance encounter one day. They continue to run into each other in odd circumstances, and one day decide to give it a go with each other. Katie is a divorced mom of three, and Dex is a tattoo artist who owns his own shop. So much fun happens watching this couple become just that.
I love, love, loved this book and these characters! It is set in the UK, so picking up some of the lingo was a little difficult, but I cannot recommend this enough! There were some surprises and a ton of laughs along the way. I loved this couple and I am already having a book hangover from it!
This is the first book that I've read by Nikki Ashton and I have to say it's brilliant in my opinion. I sniggered and laughed my way through it, recognising myself in so many of the "moments" that Katie had, and I'm not just talking about the menopausal symptoms! Katie and Dex are wonderful characters, warts and all! It's not often that you see books where the main characters are 40+ and "normal". Kudos to Nikki Ashton for taking the chance and writing this story, it's definitely one that I will read again. And as I enjoyed this one so much, I've now bought the first book in the series too and am looking forward to getting stuck into that one too. Brilliant read!
***Arc was given by author for an honest review***
OMG I laughed so hard I peed a little:D
Katie and Dex, from the very beginning, are perfect for each other. Katie is hilarious (though she is not trying) and Dex loves it. Dex is a sexy tatooed, tattoo artist who grabs Katie's attention from the get-go. Though it takes more than one run in for the two to get together. When they do Katie can't believe it, she has very low self-esteem and doesn't believe a guy like Dex will last. But Dex constantly keeps coming back even after all her craziness.
This book will have you laughing and falling in love from start to finish.
Oh my gah! This book had me laughing so hard at some points I was crying! Katie and all her clumsiness was hilarious! When Katie and Dex meet it was like insta lust! A series of events happen and it leads to Katie and Dex going out on their first date.
Katie feels like she comes with too much baggage and over thinks things at every turn.
Dex thinks that she is perfect for him. Pelvic Flaws and all.
I'm going to stop before I spoil something! But y'all gotta read this book!
This is a book that will make you want to sit all day and not stop reading. It's about a newly divorced woman, who like every other woman of 'a certain age' is going through the menopause. The story tells of how she's swept off her feet, having feelings she hasn't felt for a while whilst, whilst trying to cope with her menopausal symptoms. Nikki has a way of turning everyday life into a comedy. This is a real laugh out loud book and a must read for every woman as it shows hitting the menopause can mean your life is just beginning!!!!
This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be the last. One word - hilarious.
Katie is a divorced mum of 3, and going through what every woman does at her age. Dex Michael's is a silver fox with tattoos to drool over. He is super loyal to fault and Katie cannot believe her luck.
This book was so funny, it had me crying with laughter. I haven't ever read a book with an older couple but I loved it so much. What Katie is going through is real and the way the author depicts it is brilliant.
5 star read and I can't wait to read more from this author
What a wonderful and entertaining story this is throughout. Dex and Katie are great characters, and the attraction between them is intense. This is a beautifully written story, which is realistic, hilarious, and with too many laugh-out-loud moments to count. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author, and I highly recommend for all readers who love second chance love stories.
Oh my lordy, where to begin! This book had me laughing, cringing and properly grinning by the end. The characters are very relatable and down to earth. It's one of my top 3 this year 😍
