Apotheosis Boom

Rate this book
The epic finale of The Feedback Loop series!

Quantum Hughes has a near endless inventory list.

Years of being stuck in the Proxima Galaxy have honed his fighting abilities and sharpened his wit, but the fight yet to come could be the death of him.

With his estranged daughter gone, and his son still on the run, Strata Godsick has decided to end things once and for all, and possibly take the online world known as Tritania with him.

Aware of this fact, Quantum and the rest of the Dream Team have to move fast, but coordinating a real life attack at the same time as a digital attack can prove troublesome, especially with all the forces at play.

So Quantum does what Quantum always has done: take matter into his own hands.

But all decisions come at a cost, and the price to pay may be something Quantum can’t afford.

Well, here we are. The end of The Feedback Loop series with Book Eight: Apotheosis Bloom.

Obviously, the Dream Team is back and they are busting nuts in the real world as well as in the Proxima Galaxy.

Quantum, the stubborn cripple too old before his time....
Quantum, the master of inventory....
Quantum, the government employee without a salary...
Mr. Hughes, if you will.

Still in the doghouse with F.E., he works to patch that bit up while planning to defend Tritania from a nasty demise. Ray Steampunk joins the fight, as do loads of Loopers and royalty. As there really isn't much character development left, the pacing is pretty fast; a quick read.

How it ends....how it ends. Well, hell, I can't give that away. But - some general comments:

It was fitting. I understand Quantum's decision, but I think that there is enough life to live and he may change his mind. I'm on the fence with that.

The take-down has tragedy. Rocket is P-Whipped. I feel the series ran its course and I'm glad it ended with some finality. Overall, it was a nice conclusion.

If this were a launch, I'd put this at a 3 Star read (entertaining travel book type thing). However, if one has enjoyed the ride, this is an ample, fitting conclusion and brings a long arc to rest.

4 of 5 Stars. ARC provided by author.

In the same breath that I was saying, "Quantum is back!" I also said, "But that's it, his adventure's over." In the same vein that I can't bring myself to hear a certain singer's final album, because if I do then he's gone forever to the stardust he came from, I really didn't want to read this.

As you would expect from Harmon Cooper, the storyline is great, there's action filling the pages, and the humour is wonderfully snort-worthy. You won't be disappointed - far from it - but if you're anything like me, you'll be so emotional... but uplifted. Read it and find out for yourself, because I'm telling you nothing.

I received an eARC which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.

A fitting Conclusion

This is the end of an era, well technically a series but wow this series is what brought me to become a fan of HC.
Quantum is such a intriguing character that's just so larger than life and this story will bring you from chuckle to a restrained smile as we go through many a innovative use of Quantums infamous inventory list with many a quip. Maybe we can use the word Quantumism for this unique character and the world building is brilliant as we come to expect from HC.
This is his best book to date and it's with satisfaction and sadness that this series comes to its fateful conclusion but i will forever be a proponent of bring Quantum back again. Hmm maybe we can create a # campaign

Fans of the Feedback Loop will love this latest and perhaps final chapter of the series which has tons of action and twisted humor. I've listened to the previous books, so I am a bit behind since several aren't on audio format yet (5-7 I think), which left me playing catch up a bit. I really do wish I'd read the other books first, as it would have increased my enjoyment of this one, but I do love those audiobooks!

Author Harmon Cooper brings his fantasy series to a satisfying conclusion. The epic final battle is one aspect of the book, but Quantum Hughes's resolution of his love triangle, between his real life girl friend and his virtual love, basically the ruler of the Cyber Noir world he was stuck in for years.

There are costs and losses for this resolution and pain to be borne.

As with all the books in this series, there is graphic violence, sexual references, and sophomoric humor.

Wow

This is one of my favorite series, i found the first book slightly difficult to read due to the slang in it but as I got used to it the series got better. I have re-read the series 3 times already and will probably read it again soon.

Not the strongest finish.

I'm somewhat glad to be done with Quantum, as he was getting more and more annoying each book. It ended about where I expected, but just seemed to be rather quick in the final chapters.
