Eschatology can be an obsession, like reading ghost stories or watching horror movies. There is hardly a scarier prospect than the end of the world. Just look at the millennium bug scare, or the more recent Mayan "apocalypse" - but deep inside our hearts, we know there will be an end. And as Christians, it is something to look forward to with hope rather than cowering from with dread. This book does an excellent job of reminding us of just that.

After reading the Left Behind series, I thought I was firmly in the Premillennialist camp. However, Pastor (Dr.?) Ponsonby made some excellent points, and I am no longer quite so certain. Pre-, post-, or amillennialist, the most important thing is that JESUS IS COMING AGAIN, and anything else DOES NOT MATTER in the long run.

I have always enjoyed Simon Ponsonby books especially the one on Romans - God is for Us - a must read if you are studying / reading the book of Romans and Loving Mercy.
However I found this one quite hard to get into as it is fairly academic and not as easily accessible for the general reader as the other ones I have mentioned. Having said that he sheds light on some tricky topics such as the Millennium, the rapture and Jesus Second Coming and some chapters are far easier to get into than others.
However this is a book definitely worth persevering with if you are interested in the End Times.

Leaves you to research further to discover your own views.
A good read. Lots of pages folded so I can look back at them.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting to dissect end times theology; this book gives a holistic view and even shares some insight from Islam, Mormonism and Jehovah Witnesses, which is great to learn about also.

The author does a good job of covering the historical facts about beliefs about the end times. While I may not agree with all his conclusions he does a very good job of covering the subject.

Rich eschatology but can follow along well. Rooted in scriptures throughout the book and can easily become borderline obsessive.

The author's investigation of all things eschatological and his conclusions.
Since eschatology is always a subject that leads to great fascination the author decided to set forth the results of his own study. Those results cannot be easily fit into a pre-existent paradigm, for better and for worse.
The author explores the hope of Christianity, God's rule in His Kingdom, death and life, various millennial theories, end time signs, the antichrist, the role of Israel, tribulation and rapture, Armageddon, the return of Jesus, the resurrection and judgment, heaven and hell, and a conclusion to exhort believers toward faithfulness.
The author does well at explaining the present rule of God in Christ in the church, the manifold difficulties of dispensational premillennialism, the bodily nature of the resurrection and its implications, the singularity of the final judgment, the nature of heaven and hell, and the conclusion of exhortation. The author expects the ingathering of Israel and is more Zionist than would otherwise be expected out of an Anglican espousing amillennialism, although he does speak of his raising among Christian Zionists.
In general, an alright guide through much of eschatology, but caveat emptor; study the Scriptures for yourself. :)

This beautifully and clearly written book is a great reference on the End Times. Ponsonby evenly sets forth and analyzes the various perspectives and interpretations of End Times Scriptures. One thing I found especially interesting is the idea that the timing of the Lord's eschatological program may partly depend on His people, i.e. when in fact the Great Commission has been accomplished.

I am working through the end times with my prayer fellowship/bible study at the moment, this book is proving essential in my planning. Well balanced, nice to read, not sensationalising. Recommended just for the chapter on Hope alone.
