IT’S TOUGH AT THE TOP! Teamwork is the second book in the football-tastic Roy of the Rovers fiction series. Part of the first season, this exciting series is written by award-winning author Tom Palmer.
Roy Race is living the dream. After all, how many 16-year-olds get to play up front for their favourite football team? Except life as Melchester Rovers new star striker isn’t easy. Everyone’s looking at him differently, social media is a nightmare, and Rovers are still stuck at the bottom of the league. All that, and he’s still got to go to college, help out at home, and coach his little sister Rocky’s football team. If he’s going to cope, Roy better learn to be a team player and fast….
Enjoyed this title? Pick up Foul Play next to continue the story!
This is the second of Tom Palmer's Roy of the Rovers novels and follows directly on from the previous novel and graphic novel. While you don't have to have read those two to enjoy this book, it would be worth doing so to get the most out of this entry into the series. This is an enjoyable read and moves the story forward well, developing the relationships between the characters and introducing at least one new character who will presumably play a major part in the ongoing story. Most importantly, though, there is plenty of football! Highly recommended again - I can't wait for the next instalment.
With Roy making a name for himself now, he attracts all sorts of attention, like girls, social media trolls, agents, sponsors etc. He’s going to have to learn fast, but luckily he’s well grounded with his family and coach, oh yeah and Rocky his sister will make sure he doesn’t get a big head.
Roy’s adventures continue and so does the development of his life outside of football. That’s what I love about this series, it’s not just football, it explores the themes of family, friendship, hardship and resilience.
The importance of family, resilience and school are all take-home points from a book which continues the Roy reboot. Lots of plot points introduced and a good page-turner.
