They seek assassins but they’ll find something worse.
Fadis and the crew of the Aela Sunrise travel to the island of Aieclo seeking the Verit Gamblers, a nefarious guild of shadow elves. These mysterious warriors have helped the crew in the past but only a few nights ago they killed an elven king. Their only allegiance is to gold but paying for these assassins is the easy part of this quest.
Aielco is a ruined island, once the haven of the infamous Scourge Siren, the island has become an unstable volcanic wasteland with many strange inhabitants and secrets. When a beloved companion goes missing, it’s up to Fadis and Kirla to find their wayward friend.
But a few arrows and crafty parrys might not be enough. An ancient evil grips the land and what before was thought destroyed has been festering and waiting... it will take more than a ranger to stop the rebirth of a demon.
Loved it! Full of plenty of action and adventure I thoroughly enjoyed our characters journeys. I’m very sad to hear that this was the last we see of Fadis I’m hoping perhaps he’ll pop up again in the future as he was my favorite character.
Fadis and Aeveam were forefront in this book and both of them are favorites of mine. I was screaming at the pages many times during the final chapters. I don't want to give spoilers but this book felt like a pivotal turning point in the Stormborn series.
With each book the crew of the Aela Sunrise have personal battles, along with the main battle of the book which I love. Every person feels like a main character, so within Aieclo, there was a lot of sorrow.
Having read books that come much later in the chain of events I'm beside myself with wondering how Valrin will wrangle all the craziness in, and what happens to every crew member to lead him to where he is in Half-Bloods Rising.
If you're looking for an epic series that spans the world, follows many characters and tugs at all the emotions, this is one you're going to want to dive into.
An interesting and action-packed book. It goes full throttle through the story and is rich in detail. That said, it isn’t impressive in all aspects.
For one, there is lore in this story that requires the reading of other books in the universe (not uncommon but this is a little bit more than normal). While it is good for an author to create an expanded universe, it does get annoying when cryptic remarks are given that obviously reference things told somewhere else.
Also, the writing in the book is average. There are a few typos and sometimes it seems like the wrong word is used at the wrong time. This can become quite tedious and make the read less enjoyable.
The story is good and leaves you wanting to know what happens next, though I’d rather follow different characters than what comes next I believe. Even with that said, all the characters seem to be well written and fleshed out appropriately.
Overall, average high fantasy without a major twist. A large universe that I’ll need to dive into at some point. Good and enjoyable, but not great
This reminded me of the third book in the War of the Ancients trilogy (Warcraft), the same earth-shattering brilliance! The lore surrounding Aieclo and Aeveam's character--her torn fate and absolutely raw power--is magnificently done!
What an end to the trilogy!!! An epic, cataclysmic whirlwind of adventure!
If you like the sweeping world of Lord of the Rings and the riveting adventures of Richard A. Knaak, Will Wight, and Brandon Sanderson, you'll definitely want to check this out!
An action packed adventure with magic and swords as an ancient evil is faced to save the world from a new one. A typical theme with wonderful characters and intriguing plots that will keep you guessing as you follow this interesting group of heroes on what just might be their last adventure. I found it very enjoyable and am looking forward to the next tale.
JT does it again with this third novel in the Ranger Trilogy. The world he has built is full of magic and adventure, with challenges for his characters to overcome. This is Epic Fantasy at its best, I recommend it to everyone who enjoys it.
Although this is an action packed story for all of its 140+ pages I didn’t like it as much as the previous ones. I found parts of it a bit confusing, just enough to drop a star. But still a good book
Wow. This book took all the minor complaints I had from the previous one and did a fantastic job. The addition of very interesting characters combined with the interactions between the characters were fantastic. I loved the Fadis & Kirla storyline as well as the one developing with Aeveam. I thought it was a perfect ending for Fadis's journey with Stormborn (I'll have to check out the seperate series with Fadis). Throughout the novels, he turned into one of my favorite characters and it'll be sad not seeing him in the future books. Besides that, the plot and continuing of the story was phenomenal. I didn't think anything was rushed and the story was unpacked perfectly. 4/5.
