A Country Doctor's Commonplace Book
The contents reflect Dr Evans’s many interests, including wine, cricket, poetry, Anton Chekhov and PG Wodehouse, the strange goings-on of the Church of England, and the eccentricities of British politics. These are laced with worldly-wise reflections on marriage, health, and family life, and snippets of conversations, letters to editors, correspondence, and, from that richest vein of English peculiarities, parish newsletters. Alan Bennett, TE Lawrence, and John Mortimer make appearances.

Enjoyable enough. If you like the 'book of lists' type format, you might like this and, having borrowed my library's copy I enjoyed it enough to buy my own copy.
However, it reveals very little about the compiler of the snippets, who basically set other people to find him potential items. Those few which might be said to personal are interesting but of the rest, very few have not been published elsewhere (in similiar books) and a great many of them are probably made up. My opinion is that this not a true commonplace book, it is a title to be given as a Christmas present to an acquaintance who you know likes keeping a stock of such titles in their bathroom
