About the author

Dave Willmarth

Dave is a part-time author who would love to live full time in the game worlds he creates.

A gamer since the 70's, he loves the idea of being able to mix the science of virtual reality with the fantasy worlds inspired by great writers such as JRR Tokien and CS Lewis.

Dave has always wanted to be a writer. Over the past three decades he started and put away a dozen novels, distracted by work or life.

The dream of being an author seemed distant.

That is until recently, when he discovered the LitRPG/GameLit genre full of books that combined his love for video games and epic fantasy adventures. He was inspired by the books he read, and the authors who wrote them. So much so that he sat down and wrote the first two books of The Greystone Chronicles in just over a month. He published the first as an experiment, and was shocked at the response. These days he sits in his man cave late at night and writes the stories of characters he'd like to be, in worlds virtually without limits.

Another Homerun

I love this series as much as the Greystone novels. The only part that sucks is having to wait between releases since the focus is on each series while waiting on the next greystone book I know dark elf isn't being worked on... sad face. I did enjoy the cameo bunnies. One of the deaths made me tear up, but it made sense if the long term goal is to be met. I just wasn't expecting it. I'll be waiting patiently, well as patiently as one must for the next in the series to come out. Thankfully reading this has broadened my horizons on genres. I've been pretty heavy into game lit and harem lit lately, now I've been focused on zombie apocalypse lately so that helps pass the time. Keep it up Mr. Willmarth.

EPIC

Fantastic continuation of this series. As always with Dave's writing he managed to get me hooked immediately. Fantastic plot line and no dragging at all. So excited to see what rt re this series goes! If you enjoy this series check out his Greystone Chronicals as well. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!

I can't recall if the previous book had "banter quips", but our protagonists are in a dungeon and they are throwing around jokes. This is the first time it happened, but I hate this tried and annoying trope of joking while you are seriously fighting for your life. Jokes take away the sting of things, but you joke afterwards, or before, not during, you are using breath and concentration to tell jokes that can be used to fuel your body and keep you alive.

I got a laugh when the author plugged his other books in the story.

I think I really dislike "dungeon diving", or at least I dislike the way most authors write them. There is always this (forced) air of "having fun" and over used tropes(such as the person that likes to loot) that just pisses me off. It truly annoyed me that dungeons were found and entered in this novel. Very few authors I read wrote dungeons as a serious place to tread carefully. This author did treat these places as a serious undertaking at first, but he fell back on the stupid tropes.

I will probably read the last book to see how it ties together, but I'm in no hurry. Especially if he has another forced dungeon experience waiting.

MUCH better than Greystone chronicles, but the part that rubbed me the wrong way was when they made an offer to the chieftains that was a "DUH" answer. It's like "you can stay here and die via the current circumstances, or..." and they have to decide on it. It felt off, where they all have to make a decision to do the "clearly right thing", and of course they all make the "right" decision.
Also, the game's AI siding with them 100% is starting to make them a bit OP and "over"-justified, and it's scooting the line that separates this series from what bothers me about Greystone.

Adventure abounds

Alternate universe, LitRPG, zombie apocalypse, VR game world, survival

Mace and Shari a small handful of other survivors, and begin expanding their presence in Elysia, the VR game world while Mace takes steps the original corporate game founders hesitated to cross. Above average editing. As with the first novel, most of the errors are related to punctuation, and can be ignored, and thankfully, the author has far fewer in this second novel. Looking forward to reading book 3!

Keeps getting better...

Engossing instalment with Shari and Mace tryimg to survive and find other survivors...loved the funny crossover references from the greystone series. Story picks up with more characters, both NPC and player adding more flavour to the mix. Community and world-building is becoming more detailed. Cannot wait to learn more about the AI and budding plots. Very sad about one thing, why Dakota, why? 😢😭

Another book in a great series

Usually when you read these kind of books split between two worlds and multiple characters you find a favourite and the rest is just filler. In this series though I've found myself hooked on the action in all of the area's. The struggle to just survive on earth and the expanding complexity of building a life in the game. With each new character introduced the tapestry becomes richer and more exciting. Keep up the great work

Book two

Mistakes: there are a bunch of errors scattered throughout this book. None of them are huge, but each one knocked me out of the story.
Plot: the plot is interesting and can suck you in. I do think the books in this series could use a recap of past books to help readers remember what has happened before.
Characters: we have a bunch of new characters introduced in this book. Might be hard for some to keep track.
7.3/10 almost didn't get four stars due to the mistakes.

Great installment

Great addition to the series can’t wait for book 3. The cast of characters is becoming larger and I’m still waiting to see how they are going to upload peoples consciousness into the game and what’s going to happen to their real bodies, if they will start to die once they do so but hopefully we get more of that in book 3. We also have the King Kong vs Godzilla of zombie fights to look forward too as well so it will be exciting

Nice continuation

Nice second book. Continues the pacing of the last. More of a gamelit with multiple dungeon dives. No clear skill dev at this point. You have more focus on multiple characters (griff, Lisa, Evan) both in and out of the game. Some interesting choices made in the overarching narrative that I am not make sense in the game world but seem to be done to allow the story to develop.

If you liked the first book, you will like the one as well.

FAN TABULOUS ( Yes making up a word ... live with it )

Characters keep getting more defined ... stronger ... better ... ( a few conflicts of convenience ... prove that only the strong deserve to survive (( body builder to weak LoL )) ... point is ... Fantastic and Fabulous characters and characterisation ... can not stop reading this series ... much like the former ... Author Willmarth ... has captured my imagination.

Good book

A very good story filled with action, adventure and a lot of death, real and in VR. This book ended leaving me feel unfulfilled and wanting more. The overarching story didn't advance much and it ended kind of abruptly. Still, well written with some great characters. I am looking forward to the next installment.

5/5

Another great book by the engaging Dave Willmarth. This sequel was everything you could want it to be. The characters feel so alive and fleshed out. I'll be reading anything that this man puts it.

Couple of typos and grammar mistakes but nothing that hinders the graceful flow of the story.

Keep it up, Willmarth. Consider me in for the long haul.

Adventures and new survivors

Really like where this series is coming from. It has a good mix of IRL and gameplay, and the lines seem to keep blurring. This story keeps you entertained all the way through! From the boss battles to the loot, the goofy exchanges to the tense "omg will they die" ...you wont want to put it down.

A good followup

This book was just as good as the first.

The POV changes, while necessary to tell the story complicated the actual storytelling. This isn't a fame-breaker, but it definitely was different.

Mr. Willmarth continues to write great books and looking forward to the next one in either of his series.

Excellent LitRPG

I'm fond of the green rabbit character. Great storytelling here. A rich game world as well with memorable characters. I got a kick from all the characters and places named after GameLit and LitRPG authors. The zombie apocalypse part of this book is pretty grim. Definitely on my recommend list.

Dussapointing

The first book was good so I thought the second would be better, nope i was wrong..what started as a strong main character turned into a wimp and acted like one too!!..The writer thought it was a good idea to make him a wimp but he was wrong..do not recommend this book!!

Very good!

An excellent adventure! Easy to follow action with enough of a twist to keep things interesting, though I must say I don't think I like snakes or bears as much anymore after this. Definitely going to get the next in the series!

Phew

I won't spoil the end, let's just say the author knows how to amp up the tension, make you think he's about to kick you in the gut and then pull back in time that you're laughing nervously, simply relieved that he didn't pull a G.R R Martin. Altogether a fun read.

I liked this one. We get a peek at more characters, see more of the outside world, and even get to see more about the environment the game is taking place in, all combined well in a full blown well done story that keeps you interested right up to the end. I'd be happy to read more in this series.

Just gets better

Book 1 was great book two takes the worlds and expands them to a ridiculous extent. Double plotlines... New players... end of life as we know it... It's really 2 books in one. Post apocalyptic survival and fantasy rpg.

I really enjoyed this book, it's a solid follow up to the first book. it expands on the story without getting to big. I appreciate that feel like I can picture how the series will end, I think that helps authors write more coherent stories.

Good Read.

Book 2. A LitRPG story where there is a apocalypse event in the world where most people have died. The story take place in two worlds. The game world and real world. Both worlds are interesting and add to the story.

Fun fun fun

Loving this series. It feels like a cohesive yet random collection of elements that shouldn’t fit... but do. Love both sides of the story and hope that it just keeps getting better.

Another great adventure

Really really liking this series as Mace and co continue to level up in the hopes that they can survive the real world to transition to their new lives.
I like how he progressed this and can't wait for further characters to join them.

Excellent again

Another strong book that develops the plot and extends the main characters with some enjoyable new ones. Good to see that not all survivors are nice and this dealt with well.

The story itself is engaging and building nicely and hopefully will be a few more books.

Thank you Dave willmarth for a second book to a great series, I read the first book a year or so ago and just stumbled across this and I’m glad I did. Filled with great characters and so far a great story line.

Great book two

Wonderful story and plot. The author has a great way to make a reader case about a VR gameworld. The real world plot lines add a sense of urgency to the story lines that keep you interested.
