This second edition of the popular Identity in Adolescence is an updated and expanded account featuring the latest research findings from five major developmental Erik Erikson, Peter Blos, Lawrence Kohlberg, Jane Loevinger and Robert Kegan. Jane Kroger details the key concepts of these theoretical models, giving special emphasis to their practical implications for professionals working with young people. From her own experiences in both clinical and natural settings, Kroger shows how an understanding of the stages through which identity development proceeds can facilitate appropriate intervention.
A very good exposition on a developmental perspective on identity formation through an account of five major theorists: Erikson, Blos, Kohlberg, Loevinger & Kegan. While the book is clearly developmental in perspective, the author clearly appreciates the role of social and cultural context for identity formation (albeit it falls outside the scope of the theorists discussed). The book is clearly structured and biographical sketches are used to enliven the theorists.
