Herman Parish (born 1953) is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off from teaching, she was able to stay with the Parish family for extended periods of time, allowing Herman and Peggy to develop a close relationship. More importantly, this gave Herman a chance to keenly observe Peggy during her writing processes, gaining great insight to the road ahead of him. To carry on the essence of the series, Herman thoroughly examined his aunt’s work and did his best to capture what exactly made the character of Amelia Bedelia such a hit. Having editor Susan Hirschman and illustrator Lynn Sweat in common with his aunt helped to make the transition. He has added thirteen more books to the series. Herman is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey, and travels to libraries and schools across the United States, speaking and inspiring young children. The importance of revising and editing is often stressed during these dynamic lectures. He has presented to students in more than 22 states.

"I loved the part where she saved a cat from the tree and that she named it Pumpkin. She helped Pumpkin find a new home that had another cat named Pumpkin, like a copy cat. Amelia Bedelia went to the pet store and got a cat for the firehouse." -Cadee, age 8

Cute and Fun

There's no end to the adorableness of Amelia Bedelia and this book is no different. Amelia and her friends are at school on recess when they hear a cat stuck up in a tree and must figure out a way to help it.
This is a story about friendship and kindness. Amelia Bedelia teaches young girls to treat everyone and everything well, that no problem is too small to be worthy of helping out. Perfect for young kids (especially girls) aged four an up, they're written in a simple style that is both easy and fun to read. The kids will start out listening to adults read the books to them and eventually grow with the stories until they can read them themselves.

Final Verdict:
The kind of book parents should want their children reading. Cute. Fun. The kind of story that is a pleasure to read.

Review for Whiskers Cat Cafe:

Amelia Bedelia has been around since the 1960s. Currently the nephew of the creator is writing the books. This is the 2nd book in a new series aimed at readers 6 to 8 years old. This book contains almost every cat saying I have ever heard. I may have even learned a few new ones. One day at school Amelia and her friends discover a kitten in a tree while they're outside for recess. They try to come up with the best idea to rescue the kitten. Once rescued they have to find the kitten already has a home or if they need to find it a home. In the back of the book are some cat facts and some Amelia facts.

This was a cute story where the kids find a cat up a tree on the playground. They work together to try to get it down and then to try to get it adopted. In the end they find the cat a home and all is well. So sweet and typical Amelia Bedelia humor.
