A missing wife. A former lover. A house that isn't yet done with death.
Estranged from his wife and living on a caravan park, Pete Bailey thinks the worst is over.
Well away from the marital home where the murders took place, Pete is still hoping to hear from Meg and get a sale on a property that nobody wants to buy.
But the newspaper and TV reports haven't gone unnoticed and there are some new arrivals in the town.
Teaming up with his TV friend and former lover, Alex Kennedy, Pete goes in search of the truth about Meg and hurtles headlong into a tangled mess along the way.
The house where two men lost their lives is not yet done with the killing - and more people who are close to Pete must lose their lives before the secrets of Meg's past are revealed.
Pete will be brought to the edge of despair and risks losing everything in this non-stop, psychological thriller.
The Murder Place is the second part of trilogy of thrillers.
Book 1, Don't Tell Meg and Book 3, The Forgotten Children are also available.
Paul J. Teague has also written the standalone thriller Dead of Night (Released May 2017)
Hi, I'm Paul Teague (writing as Paul J. Teague), the author of the Don't Tell Meg trilogy, the Morecambe Bay series of books as well as several other standalone psychological thrillers such as Dead of Night, So Many Lies and Now You See Her.
I'm a former broadcaster and journalist with the BBC, but I have also worked as a primary school teacher, a disc jockey, a shopkeeper, a waiter and a sales rep.
I've read thrillers all my life, starting with Enid Blyton's Famous Five series, then graduating to James Hadley Chase, Harlan Coben, Linwood Barclay and Mark Edwards.
If you love those authors then you’ll like my thrillers too.
I started off writing thrillers with the Don’t Tell Meg Trilogy which draws upon my 18 year career in radio journalism.
It’s fast-moving, high action and a bit racy in places, but it was great fun writing the story and I hope to re-visit the characters one day.
My standalones are ‘can’t-put-down’ stories where normal people find themselves in extradordinary situations.
I also write sci-fi and dystopian novels as Paul Teague and these stories are set in dark and sinister future-worlds.
I have written The Secret Bunker Trilogy, The Grid Trilogy and the stanadlone story, Phase 6.
The Murder Place is the second book in the Don’t Tell Meg Trilogy. I would highly recommend reading the books in order as you really do need to have read Don’t Tell Meg which is the first book to fully enjoy this book. There is definitely a lot of background that as a reader would be of benefit to you to know prior to starting this one.
Pete is probably someone, if real, I doubt I would have very much time for. He tends to think with what’s down below than he does with his head. If he used his head then he wouldn’t keep getting into the most dire situations but then where would be the fun in that for us readers? I couldn’t help secretly liking him though as he definitely has a certain charm about him.
Things haven’t got much better for Pete since we met him in the first book. He’s living in a caravan park and trying to keep his head down from the forced fame he has had thrust upon him since the murders. His ex, Alex, is a great character who hasn’t quite got Pete out of her system but I really enjoyed the friendship that goes on between them.
The Murder Place was a gripping read that is quite dark and twisted. It will totally keep you on the edge of your seat. The author certainly keeps you on your toes and I had no clue who was behind the murders and I certainly enjoyed the roller coaster of a ride the author took me on in finding out. Can’t wait to see how it will all end in the third book in the trilogy.
I didn't enjoy this as much as the first in this series, perhaps because I found a lot of it less believable. There just seemed to be way too many bodies piling up in this one. I think it went a bit too far. Let's hope he learns all of Meg's secrets in the last instalment, though I'd prefer he sticks with Alex myself. She seems to be the only sane woman he's ever spent time with. He has a dreadful habit of picking up madzers, doesn't he !! Though I really liked Vicky in this book, at last he chose a nice female friend. I did have to re-download Don't Tell Meg to remind myself of who was who, too, as I couldn't remember how all of them were related, etc. in this one. There were quite a lot of mistakes in this, too. For some reason, around page 230 he missed speechmarks out on almost every single page, which made for tricky reading. It's like he was getting bored and just couldn't be bothered anymore !! Glamorise shouldn't be written as glamourise and he persistently writes smart phone like this, though adds a hyphen once, when it should be smartphone. Words were dropped from sentences...."She ready for me" or ".....began move my tongue lightly" and there were the usual e-book apostrophe mistakes as well and tweeting should be capitalised. At one point he tells us he can't wait till 8 O' clock to meet someone but on the previous page the appointment was made for 7 O' clock so that was pretty sloppy. He mentions a couch he has in his storage unit at one point but later on says that the only lounge furniture he has in there was an armchair. I'll definitely read the last book of the trilogy as I want to know what happens to them all and who Pete ends up with !!
This book is even better than the first one. Just read it. Don’t try to figure it out. There is so much going on in the book, that overthinking it will ruin it. This one is different because it goes from 3rd person, back to Pete Bailey, in first person. And you have no idea how anything is connected. But there are no boring parts. There are twists and turns ... and there were times I got so involved in the storyline my nerves were on edge, but in a good way. That’s when you know it’s a good book ... when you’re reading and you can feel yourself going through what the characters are going through. This series is the first in a long time that I’ve read and couldn’t put down. I love that Alex has a main character role in this book. In the first one, she was mentioned, and played a part at the end. But in this book, she’s with Pete throughout the book, and they are so good together. The characters are so real you feel like you know them. And I love that it’s not a romance novel. It’s a mystery, and a thriller. You should read, “Don’t Tell Meg” first. It’s really good. But this one is better. I can’t wait to start on the third one.
Although this 2nd book wasn't as good as the first book, I still enjoyed it! This book was a lot more creepy for sure. Not only do we get the POV of the main character Pete, but we also get a glimpse of what the bad guys were doing. Note that there's a LOT of adult content in this book, so I wouldn't advise younger readers to try this one. The author is very good at making the reader think one way, but then reveal a huge plot twist at the very end. I was so shocked! I really like how this book had a proper, satisfying ending. But of course, it alludes to the final book of this trilogy and left me wanting more!
The book felt longer than what it was, and I struggled to get through it at times. I’m more aggravated at Pete and his character. At one point, one of the characters tells Pete he shouldn’t blame himself…but I really see him as to blame in much of what happens.
I got the trilogy for free, and I liked the first book. I might eventually read the third one. I just wasn’t a big fan of this second one.
I have a box set which includes this story and I enjoyed it because it has an easy writing style, a great plot and a touch of humour...though really, Pete, you are such an idiot.
I wonder if Pete will ever learn? He is likeable but annoyingly stupid at times. A perfect character for the plot - very well done.
A great murder thriller, which I highly recommend.
I will finish the series, but more out of a sense of needing to finish than enthusiasm. I don't know if its the suspense-y/thriller-y sense or what. It is fairly well written and not hard to read. I am not having trouble picking it up, but I just don't love it.
This second book is an amazing series that came after the first amazing book of the series! I can't wait to start the next one! I love this series please keep writing more like this!!
This book started off with a bang and kept going right until the end. I felt like I was in the story. It goes by leaving me wanting more. I cannot wait for the third and final book in the trilogy!!!
A good sequel to the first book. Pete once again finds himself in a bad situation because of his poor judgement in women. This book digs deeper into the characters and gives some backstory. I’m excited to read the third book.
This is the second in the trilogy. There was plenty of action and thrills. The hook at the end of each chapter certainly kept you wanting to read and explore more. The frustration is that he does not learn that one night stands are not a good idea.
A great book. It went from one extreme to another. It kept me turning the pages and I couldn't put it down. On to the next book. Have to find out what happens next
This second book in the Meg trilogy is suspenseful and keeps your I ferret from page one. Looking forward to reading the third and final book in the series.
Boy, so much can happen in a short time to one man! There are psycho s out there and this book gives you a glimpse of how there minds work. Going on to part 3!
Not as good or as suspenseful as the first one, found myself just wanting to get to the end, but I’m invested now so I’ll obviously be reading the 3rd in the trilogy
I hoped, in book two, Pete's life would smooth it's way out. Unfortunately, it got worse. Book three needs to bring about better judgement or I am going to cry.
I really enjoyed the first book of this trilogy. While this is not a bad book, I felt it was quite repetitive: same kind of events, same roots of “all evil”, and a narator who can’t seem to learn from his mistakes, and is consciously repeating them over and over again. Also , the “all beautiful women want me, I can’t help having sex with them all” is getting a bit tedious by the end of the second book...
This is the second book in the Don't Tell Meg series. I thought it was a really good follow up. Pete has the worst luck. He's too well known from the earlier murders and that can draw some crazies. He's looking for Meg and Alex comes to help him. I really like Alex and hope that's who he ends up with, if he makes it through. I'm liking this series and am I already on to book three.
