It is said that behind every tale there is some truth. An evil spirit that haunts the night, a murder, and a haunted box—just a tale to scare the children… right? Fern Black has always loved the supernatural and everything that goes bump in the night. When her university professor asks that she interview the famous murderer Raymond Tibbs, she’s thrilled and terrified both at the same time. After all, to get a firsthand account right from the man who claims he was possessed by a ghost and forced to murder his wife and the family pet? Fern can’t construct the questions fast enough. Little does she know that Raymond is telling the truth. The evil that possessed him has been patient, waiting for him to be moved to the ancient city of Lincoln. Now all it needs is a way to escape the prison. Feeling sorry for Raymond, Fern makes the mistake of touching him and her nightmare begins. The spirit is free to search for his soulmate. Legend says that if the two are ever united, that death and destruction will rule the earth for a thousand years. Can Fern prevent this spirit from reuniting with its other half? Fern is obsessed with the occult and she's excited to interview a reportedly possessed murderer in prison. Raymond Tibbs isn't dangerous, but what he carries inside definitely is. When Fern starts showing signs of possession herself, two paranormal experts come to help. Everything ties back to a Dybbuk box and the evil spirit it contained.
I didn't realize when I started reading this book that I was jumping in at book 5 of a series. But I was easily able to grasp the characters and plot, even without reading the prior books. Gail and Jesse are Spirit Guides, helping people rid themselves of all sorts of evil entities. This time, they have to call in some expert help as the demon involved is very dangerous. This story reminded me of a story I watched on tv about a woman who bought a Dybbuk box in an antique store and accidentally brought a demon home with her. Eeek! The Jewish history and ceremony added a nice depth to this story.
All in all, an enjoyable, quick read. I'm going to backtrack and read more of this series, starting with book one. The concept isn't anything new -- exorcists/ghost-demon hunters travelling about helping people -- but I liked the characters and the plot. It's a simple, scary read....nothing fancy.....brain candy! Pure entertainment. It made for a nice afternoon of reading. I won't be opening any wooden wine boxes anytime soon! :)
The book could do with a bit of editing in places. For example, at one point the character Fern had a sudden name change to Clare for a bit. It didn't hurt my enjoyment of the book though. No writing issues....just a few minor editing mistakes.
This was such a pulse pounding, scary read that I read it in one sitting. I love how this author creates such dark and horrific reads and she always leaves me wanting more.

This story had the potential to be a good supernatural tale but, somehow, it lacked depth. The characters, including the spirit, were all one dimensional. The story moved along at a fast pace but it couldn't hold my interest and I didn't finish the book.
I was very disappointed. I had hoped for horror but what I got was mostly people running around looking for the main character and a very dull exorcism. A lot of it read like the author used talk to text. At one point instead of "are we all ready?" The character said " are we already? " As a teacher, things like that bug me and made it difficult to concentrate.
Is this really a real book with a real author? I have never, in all my years, read anything so sloppily written, with no thought to noun, verb, subject, syntax, spelling, grammar... In some places it made absolutely no sense at all - I would read the passage over and over, but still could make no sense of it. I finally gave up after reading only 50% of this horrid "book", because it seemed to only get worse with each turn of the page. I would not recommend it to anyone.
Think about spirit possession. Where could the spirit come from? Where might the possessed have come in contact with it? That is just the tip of the iceberg of this terrifying new book by Caroline Clark. Could even a few of the evils committed by man really be done by the hand of such spirits? Interesting thought for a dark night? Get your copy now and read more.
Raymond Tibbs is a man possessed, his wife a woman of faith. She calls on her church for help, and three priests should surely be enough to free her husband from whatever has taken over his life. They assure her the exorcism was a success. But later the same night Raymond awakes, and nothing but blood with satisfy his passenger.
Five years later Fern, a young law student, must choose someone as a case study for possible miscarriage of justice. She believes Raymond’s story of possession, thinking she may possibly be able to change things for him after his five years in prison.
What harm can come from interviewing Mr. Tibbs inside the prison? Certainly the spirit would have left the man by now, right?
Fern is asked by her university to interview Raymond Tibbs, the famous murderer who claims he was possessed by a ghost that forced him to murder his wife and the family pet. But this causes a terrible backlash for the city of Lincoln. Can The Spirit Guide find a way to capture and contain this ancient force or will Fern lead the world into darkness? You will need to read the book to see. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I find this series extremely entertaining and a real on the edge of your seat page turner. The story line is such that I just Had to finish it in one sitting. Loved the newest characters. Also, hoping the little tease within this story means another book is coming out in the RedRise series!!!
Oh wow, really enjoyed this book . Turned right around and bought the four book set The Ghost of RedRise House. Can't wait to start reading it as soon as I leave you all here. If you get this book, enjoy. Then you just might like Caroline Clark as much as I do, you'll be buying The Ghost of RedRise House too. Everyone have a good 👻 read
This book is a really good read if you are into the spiritual unknown. Imagine you have an old wooden box laying around your house that is locked. I personally would leave it that way. I gave the book 4 stars because I felt it a little wordy making for long chapters. Still a good read for all you horror fans.
This was a very very scarrrryyyy story. This was the first of Caroline Clark's O have read even though I have bought several. I will definitely open them and read them. this was a good one.
